- 06:40 I don't like to see brothers pit against brothers, but I raised

- 06:45 There's family intrigue here.
- 06:47 The mother pivots away from one toward the other,

- 06:53 A brother who--son who lies to his father, who stealthily
- 06:57 deceives him in order to gain something from him,
- 07:01 that bothers me.
- 07:03 Like I said, there are a number of problems in this text.
- 07:07 There are a number of possibilities as well.
- 07:09 And when God put the story in the Bible, he wasn't looking for
- 07:12 my permission, and he wasn't necessarily looking

- 07:18 But I'm left to make sense of it.

- 07:25 shouldn't be too surprised because there's a problem when
- 07:28 you look at Genesis, you know, five minutes into the reading,
- 07:31 you realize something has gone horribly wrong.
- 07:34 Case in point here, we're looking at biblical literature's
- 07:38 major dysfunctional family.
- 07:42 Now, that's contemporary language, but when you look
- 07:44 at Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and Jacob's brother
- 07:48 and what have you, there's all this family intrigue,

- 07:57 If you look in your own family system and you consider dynamics

- 08:06 And I say that, nevermind the bad news, nevermind casting
- 08:09 negativity of what I'm looking at, the story here is
- 08:14 fascinating because God still comes through.
- 08:18 He comes to and works through flawed humanity.
- 08:24 And by the way, that's a testimony to God's grace,
- 08:27 his graciousness, that he is so very inclined to do that.
- 08:31 That's good news for modern man.
- 08:34 The truth of the matter is a little bit of deceit,

- 08:38 that unfortunately, is part of the human condition.
- 08:45 Speaking of the human condition and going negative,
- 08:47 it's interesting when dad beckons the son forward,
- 08:53 when Yitzhak calls forth his son thinking it's Esau.
- 08:58 Isaac said to his son, "How in the world were you able

- 09:05 In chapter 27, verse 20.
