 - 01:03 Kirsten: Right, it's good, good news.
 - 01:05 David: Take your Bible right now and let's turn to chapter 20
 - 01:08 as Dr. Seif teaches on Revelation.
 - 01:16 Jeffrey: When I look at Revelation chapter 20,
 - 01:18 I alight upon something that others might not because therein
 - 01:22 I see a malefactor, someone who's guilty of something being
 - 01:26 taken into custody and then imprisoned.
 - 01:30 But I look at it like a cop, not just as a theologian.
 - 01:34 I say that because in Revelation chapter 20,
 - 01:36 finally the devil is seized, this dragon,
 - 01:40 this beast, this serpent, Satan and the devil is identified.
 - 01:44 And then he's taken in verse 3 and thrown into the abyss.
 - 01:49 I mentioned that, and rightly so, today we live in a world,
 - 01:51 we're looking for a kinder and gentler police force.
 - 01:54 I don't just seize people and throw them because I've never
 - 02:00 arrested anybody who was guilty.
 - 02:02 The reason why I say that is because they're innocent until
 - 02:04 proven guilty, I just have probable
 - 02:06 cause to make an arrest.
 - 02:08 I tend to be restrained.
 - 02:10 And I've always imposed that on others that I
 - 02:12 trained as a police officer.
 - 02:15 That's not the case here.
 - 02:17 And why is that?
 - 02:19 There's a lot of tension in the room because God is finally
 - 02:21 getting his planet back.
 - 02:24 And here we are at the end of Revelation, harking
 - 02:28 back to a story that begins at the beginning
 - 02:30 of biblical revelation.
 - 02:32 There's, hey lady, this hissing creature,
 - 02:35 this serpent who seems to get away with it.
 - 02:38 The race is defiled according to the literature.
 - 02:41 And from Genesis to Revelation, we just see a world gone bad.
 - 02:46 God so loved the world that he sent his Son into the world.
 - 02:49 And there are individuals, in some sense, called out of the
 - 02:52 world to be a counterculture in this world,
 - 02:55 to be an advanced colony of new world to come.
 - 02:58 But there's a sense in which even with Jesus's coming,
 - 03:01 and people getting saved and participating in this new
 - 03:03 community, still we have a rotten world to contend with.
 - 03:08 And so it has been.
 - 03:10 But that rottenness comes to a point in time.
 - 03:13 Here is the point and now is the time to give voice to it.
 - 03:17 In chapter 20 again, this heinous personality,
 - 03:21 Satan the devil identified as such,
 - 03:24 is taken and thrown into a pit for 1,000 years.
 - 03:27 It's noted explicitly 1,000 years.
 - 03:30 And this is where you get the--you know,
 - 03:32 the language in Christian theology,
 - 03:33 millennial.
 - 03:35 Millennial just means 1,000 years.
 - 03:37 Premillennial, post-millennial, amillennial.
 - 03:40 The question is, what do we do with 1,000 years?
 - 03:43 Are we tethered to 1,000 years the way we compute years?
 - 03:48 Or do we want to just subscribe to some,
 - 03:51 you know, indefinite period of time?
 - 03:54 It's hard to say indefinite because it is given
 - 03:56 a kind of definite periodization.
 - 03:59 I don't want to wade into those waters
 - 04:01 just to mention that it's there.
 - 04:04 If you look in verse 7, however, we're told that after this
 - 04:07 period, Satan is released, subsequent to which then
 - 04:13 he is finally destroyed.
 - 04:15 And with that, this language of the Ezekiel, it surfaces.
 - 04:19 God, Magog, climactic kind of battle that's noted here
 - 04:23 in the literature in Ezekiel.
 - 04:25 After that battle in verse 10, the devil is then--who has
 - 04:29 deceived the world is finally thrown into a pit.
 - 04:32 And with that, we have the ultimate triumph
 - 04:35 of God in human history.
 - 04:39 It's good news, but I've got better news still.
 - 04:44 You say, "Jeffrey, what could be better than that?"
 - 04:46 Well, better than that is the fact that we
 - 04:49 don't have to wait for that.
 - 04:51 That is to say history moves at its own trajectory.
 - 04:55 And there is some point in time when the devil has his day,
 - 05:00 and finally he's bested by the Lord when he returns.
 - 05:04 We considered that previously in Revelation.
 - 05:07 There is a point in time when God gets his
 - 05:11 planet back in total.
 - 05:14 But we can give him back some earth right now.
 - 05:19 And I mention that because that's what the whole notion of
 - 05:22 surrendering to the Lord is and being born anew.
 - 05:25 The term "born anew" carries with it
 - 05:27 a connotation of rejuvenation.
 - 05:30 That is let's do this again, let's do it better,
 - 05:33 let's do it with Holy Spirit, let's do it God's way.
 - 05:36 And that happens later on in time according to the Revelation
 - 05:39 text, but you don't have to wait to that time.
 - 05:42 For you, the clock can start ticking right now with a new
 - 05:46 birth, with a regeneration, with being born again.
 - 05:50 And you yourself can experience a life without the
 - 05:55 dragon, without the serpent.
 - 05:57 You know, without Satan, without the devil, without all of that.
 - 06:00 To be sure, he can prowl around like a roaring lion,
 - 06:03 seeking someone to devour.
 - 06:05 But to be sure, you're part of a new
 - 06:07 sheepfold, a new community.
 - 06:09 You know, God is in the business of making things new not just at
 - 06:13 the ragged edge of time, but he does it at a time when
 - 06:16 individuals decide to make the time, to be honest about their
 - 06:20 sin, to not blame everyone and everything on their
 - 06:23 circumstance, to take a look how people are
 - 06:26 responsible for their own life.
 - 06:28 To then realize there's an offer on the table in the Bible where
 - 06:32 individuals can experience forgiveness
 - 06:34 of sins, newness of life.
 - 06:36 People can be born anew and their lives can be transformed.
 - 06:40 Transformation speaks of a radical redoing internally.
 - 06:45 And all that's available.
 - 06:46 To be sure, there is going to be a radical remanufacture of

 - 07:31 When we look at Revelation 21, we're, in effect,

 - 07:38 That is it was shut down, broke down,
 - 07:40 now we're redoing it.
 - 07:43 It's a fascinating story, by the way.
 - 07:44 He says here he sees a new heaven and a new earth.
 - 07:48 And in verse 2, there's a new Jerusalem coming down.
 - 07:52 It's a little different, you know,
 - 07:54 the older Jerusalem, the symbol of it was a menorah.
 - 07:57 In fact, when the temple was destroyed, the Romans had
 - 08:01 known that the menorah itself was a symbol, the
 - 08:05 candelabra was a symbol of Jewish religion and temple
 - 08:09 worship, and they took it away to Rome
 - 08:11 and actually built an arch.
 - 08:13 They're seizing the asset was their way
 - 08:16 of depicting the triumph.
 - 08:18 There's a new Jerusalem, but unlike the old one,
 - 08:20 and we'll get to this later, there's no temple in it.
 - 08:23 But what do we have here?
 - 08:25 He says, "Behold, the dwelling of God is among men,
 - 08:29 and he shall tabernacle among them.
 - 08:33 They shall be his people, and God himself shall be among
 - 08:35 them and be their God."
 - 08:39 The language, to my way of thinking, harks back rather
 - 08:42 clearly to Genesis, when humankind walked with God and
 - 08:48 there was felicity, there was peace,
 - 08:50 there was relationship, there was communication.
 - 08:53 Sin makes its entrance to the stage of the human drama,
 - 08:56 it gets ripped apart.
 - 08:58 But here things are made new.
 - 09:00 We saw previously how the serpent is taken,
 - 09:04 seized, thrown away, and there we're going back to Genesis
 - 09:07 edenic language, we're going back to Eden.
 - 09:10 The readers are beckoned to revisit it.
 - 09:12 And here similarly now, God dwelling among them and being in
 - 09:15 relationship with humankind, that comes to the fore.
 - 09:20 Speaking of four, not forefront, but the number four,
 - 09:23 in verse 4 he says here that, "He will wipe away every tear
 - 09:28 from their eyes, and death shall be no more."
 - 09:35 Unfortunately, life comes replete with many dangers,
 - 09:40 toils, and snares.
 - 09:42 And it ends at a grave.
 - 09:45 And as people make their journey from the womb to the tomb,
 - 09:48 we all have ample time and occasion to shed a tear.
 - 09:52 We're not going to have any more of that.
 - 09:53 We're told that mourning and crying and pain,
 - 09:57 all of that is going to pass away.
 - 10:01 There's a new day, there's something of a restoration.
 - 10:05 And as I am game to mention as we approach the end of this
 - 10:09 series, I like to underscore that we don't have to wait.
 - 10:14 That moment, we don't have to wait to that day till we can
 - 10:18 experience something of this way, that is to say that
 - 10:21 God can wipe away tears from eyes right now, that God
 - 10:28 can become a friend to us if we become a friend to him.
 - 10:35 Unfortunately, there's enmity between us and God.
 - 10:38 Our sins make a separation, but that can be removed,
 - 10:43 that can be fixed.
 - 10:45 God is indeed in the restoration business.
 - 10:47 I love it here, that's envisioned as a point in time
 - 10:51 when all of humankind is brought back.
 - 10:54 Just like humankind was lost in the garden,
 - 10:57 now all of humankind is brought back.
 - 10:59 But again, as I say, we don't have to wait till then.
 - 11:02 You have in verse 6, "Behold, I am the Alpha and the Omega,
 - 11:06 the beginning and the end," again harking
 - 11:08 back to the beginning.
 - 11:10 We're told as well as we move on,
 - 11:12 we see this new Jerusalem coming down.
 - 11:15 And in verse 10, he's carried away,
 - 11:17 the author is, in the Ruach, in the Spirit, to a great mountain.
 - 11:21 And he sees the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of
 - 11:26 heaven from God, having the glory of God.
 - 11:31 That the language here is rather fascinating.
 - 11:35 Again, we're in the context of a restoration,
 - 11:38 with worship being restored, people being restored to a
 - 11:43 relationship with God finally and fully.
 - 11:47 And there's a description here of the new Jerusalem.
 - 11:51 There's a look at a regenerated, you know, landscape.
 - 11:58 It's really worth having a look.
 - 12:00 In fact, the author closes saying in verse 22 that in this
 - 12:04 new world that dawns, there's no temple in her,
 - 12:08 interestingly, for the Lord is the temple.
 - 12:15 And I'm going to explore that in the very next segment.
 - 12:18 We're told here that with the Lord's presence,
 - 12:22 he is, in effect, going to light it up and be the lamp.
 - 12:26 The Lord is, the Lamb of God is, the Messiah is.
 - 12:29 "And nations shall walk by its light,

 - 15:48 That is, at the end, we're going back to the beginning.
 - 15:51 What do we see?
 - 15:53 Well, in Genesis, there was the rivers that came from Eden.
 - 15:59 We know that in early Genesis, and here he sees that.
 - 16:03 In verse 2, he sees the tree of life.
 - 16:07 Jewish people liken the candelabra,
 - 16:10 the menorah, to a tree of life inasmuch as there is
 - 16:13 a trunk and there's branches.
 - 16:16 The menorah itself is likened to a tree that gives forth
 - 16:21 light, radiance, if you will.
 - 16:24 It's a symbol [speaking in Hebrew]
 - 16:26 of the tree of life, and here, certainly, the tree of
 - 16:29 life is notated in the garden of Eden, various trees.
 - 16:33 The knowledge of good and evil, the tree of life.
 - 16:36 And here we see the imagery again.
 - 16:38 In verse 3, we're told that there's no longer a curse in
 - 16:42 this new city; and again, we're harking back to early Genesis.
 - 16:46 "The throne of God and the Lamb shall be in the city."
 - 16:49 And we're told that his servants shall serve him.
 - 16:55 By the way, we don't have to wait till then to serve,
 - 16:57 you know, that we do it willingly now.
 - 17:01 We act as servants.
 - 17:03 We serve the Lord by giving him apportionment of our time,
 - 17:06 our energy, our money, our adoration.
 - 17:09 We start that now because we start being restored now.
 - 17:14 People say one of the benefits of accepting the Lord is that we
 - 17:17 can have life after we die.
 - 17:18 That's true, but it starts before we die.
 - 17:21 That is to say, "I am the way, the
 - 17:23 truth, and the life," he said.
 - 17:24 In other words, life starts now with the way.
 - 17:28 And the curse is removed here.
 - 17:30 The throne of God is there, the Lamb is there, we serve him.
 - 17:33 "They shall see his face, and his name
 - 17:37 will be on their foreheads."
 - 17:39 They'll see his face.
 - 17:41 It's an interesting expression, it speaks of intimacy.
 - 17:44 We're not looking at a veiled presence.
 - 17:46 And there you have it.
 - 17:48 You know, the word "revelation"
 - 17:51 from apocalypsis harks to
 - 17:53 unveiling, being able to see it for what it really is.
 - 17:58 And the author of Revelation looks at a sin-soaked world,
 - 18:03 and he wants to see it for what it really is.
 - 18:07 He sees the believers being oppressed in that world,
 - 18:10 and he gives voice to their eventual triumph finally and
 - 18:15 fully, and we're looking at it now.
 - 18:17 We're told in verse 5 no longer is there darkness.
 - 18:21 People will have no need for lamps,
 - 18:23 for menorahs, for sunlight, "For the Lord God will shine on them.
 - 18:30 And they shall reign forever and ever with him."
 - 18:34 It's a beautiful ending.
 - 18:37 It's a glorious ending to a glorious story in so many
 - 18:40 ways, but such is life.
 - 18:43 With all that attended to, before we get out of Revelation,
 - 18:46 we hear the Lord again, "I'm coming soon, and my reward
 - 18:51 is with me to pay back each one according to his deeds."
 - 18:56 In the meantime, you know, we live between Calvary on the one
 - 19:03 hand, we live between his first coming on the one hand,
 - 19:06 and his second coming on the other.
 - 19:09 And in between that time, we want to serve the Lord and be

 - 22:28 it's been up and down.
 - 22:30 Jeffrey: It's been up and down, but we're on an upper now.
 - 22:32 I want to land on a verse, and we'll just see
 - 22:34 where it goes, okay?
 - 22:35 In chapter 22, verse 16, where we--Yeshua is on record at the
 - 22:41 end saying, "I am the root and the offspring of David,
 - 22:46 the bright morning star."
 - 22:47 It's fascinating, the newer testament closes connecting
 - 22:52 Jesus to the Jewish story and a primary personality
 - 22:57 in the older testament.
 - 22:59 I like that reminder.
 - 23:00 I think it's been so forgotten through time and circumstance.
 - 23:04 People have lost sight of the Jewish origins
 - 23:07 of the Jesus story, correct?
 - 23:09 Kirsten: I agree, and that's why we're here.
 - 23:11 That's why we keep doing what we're doing,
 - 23:13 because that's how it ends.
 - 23:16 It connects the dots and it closes the whole chapter.
 - 23:20 And it closes it with, "I was a Jewish Messiah and Savior.
 - 23:25 And I came for the whole world, but this is who I was and is."
 - 23:29 Jeffrey: That's why I'm here, that's why we're here,
 - 23:32 and that's why you're there.
 - 23:33 You wouldn't tune into this if you didn't care.
 - 23:37 And we really appreciate the fact there's a lot of people
 - 23:41 that have come to know the Lord and have developed an
 - 23:43 appreciation for the Jewish roots of the Yeshua,
 - 23:47 of the Jesus story.
 - 23:48 Dave, what about those that have not come to know the Lord?
 - 23:51 You know, we're at the end of the book, and we
 - 23:53 don't want people to pivot away and say, "Great series."
 - 23:56 We want them to pivot away and
 - 23:57 say, "Great Savior," correct?
 - 23:58 David: Right, our goal in this series is not to scare
 - 24:00 people, but to let them know that there is a goal,
 - 24:05 there's a prize that we all are looking at.
 - 24:08 Jeffrey: How can they get to the finish line?
 - 24:10 David: I want--when I pass through those gates,
 - 24:14 I want him to say, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant."
 - 24:17 That's my reason for living.
 - 24:20 And our reason for this program is that if there's someone here
 - 24:25 watching today that maybe hasn't received Yeshua in their heart,
 - 24:29 in their life, that today would be that day.
 - 24:30 Most of you watching have already done that.
 - 24:33 And if there's one person here today that hasn't--I love John
 - 24:37 3:16, "For God so loved this world that he gave his only
 - 24:41 begotten Son, Yeshua, that we might have life everlasting."
 - 24:46 That's our goal today for you.
 - 24:48 Jeffrey: You know, Dave, you read the book Revelation,
 - 24:51 and Kirsten, it talks about the tribulation,
 - 24:53 the great tribulation.
 - 24:55 And someone might be sitting there with a bottle in a hotel
 - 24:58 room, saying, "Yeah, I'm in the middle of
 - 24:59 my great tribulation now."
 - 25:02 It really is true that success in life and a turnaround story
 - 25:06 is just a prayer away, yes?
 - 25:08 David: Even what we're going through right now in a pandemic,
 - 25:12 a lot of people may be feeling like there's no life
 - 25:15 in them, like what's next?
 - 25:19 Jeffrey: And I think, by the way, mindful of heritage.
 - 25:24 Jewish people are minded of history,
 - 25:27 I think, more so than others.
 - 25:29 And as a people group, we've been through hell and high water
 - 25:32 on a number of occasions.
 - 25:34 And Jewish people say, "Am Yisrael chai,"
 - 25:37 the people of Israel live.
 - 25:40 You know, we're only making our trek.
 - 25:42 We have a--you know, from the womb to the tomb.
 - 25:44 As individuals, we make our journeys,
 - 25:46 and we go, "Oh my goodness, pandemic,
 - 25:49 unemployment, political consternation."
 - 25:52 And we experience it for the first time, but God's been
 - 25:56 around for a long time delivering everyone who calls on
 - 25:59 the name of the Lord through the passage of time, yes?
 - 26:02 David: Something we're experiencing with friends who
 - 26:04 live in Israel that there's a revival
 - 26:07 going on there right now.
 - 26:08 Have you experienced that there?
 - 26:09 Jeffrey: Well, I have heard good words.
 - 26:12 Certainly amongst Jewish people, there's been
 - 26:14 this renewed interest.
 - 26:16 And we still have to see work done there,
 - 26:20 but yes, it's all on the up.
 - 26:22 David: On fire, yes.
 - 26:23 Kirsten: One of the closing things in Revelation is that
 - 26:27 there's no more need for a temple.
 - 26:29 There are no more churches 'cause God is
 - 26:31 there face to face with us.
 - 26:34 And that's our prayer for you as you watch this program and this
 - 26:37 whole series, that you will come to a place by asking him into
 - 26:41 your life, into your heart, asking him to forgive your sins
 - 26:45 so that you can walk face to face with the Savior.
 - 26:50 And in the end, he doesn't want to be separate,
 - 26:52 he wants to be right there with you.
 - 26:54 That's what this whole series has been
 - 26:55 about and this whole program.
 - 26:56 David: In the good times and the bad times.
 - 26:58 Jeffrey: Amen, great word to finish up,
