- 01:22 Kirsten Hart: I'm Kirsten Hart.
- 01:23 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: And I'm Jeffrey Seif.
- 01:24 David: And this is the last program in this series, and I'm
- 01:26 so thankful for the words today, restoration and hope for the
- 01:30 people back in Ezekiel's day, but also for us today,
- 01:34 for you today.
- 01:35 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Well, we go back into the ancient Word, but
- 01:37 we need to bring it forth into the modern world, and there's
- 01:40 applications to Ezekiel's message
- 01:42 thousands of years later.
- 01:44 Kirsten: And he saw it, that's what's so incredible.
- 01:47 This vision that he has of something that we don't even see

- 02:01 His life was a photo album of interesting moments.

- 02:06 Not all prophets were visionary.
- 02:08 There's a word for that: ro'eh which mean seer,
- 02:10 as opposed to nabi which is another word for prophet,
- 02:14 but he really is the seer in the Older Testament text.
- 02:18 Kirsten: Oh, what our future and possible

- 02:22 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yes, it's interesting, you know, we open

- 03:02 shall grow all trees for food, bringing forth new fruit,

- 03:11 And the leaf thereof shall be for medicine."
- 03:18 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: This is arguably some of the most sacred

- 03:24 No preacher hype, no visual effects,

- 03:32 My feet are planted in the Kidron Valley.
- 03:35 There is the eastern wall of what was
- 03:40 the temple in Jesus's day.
- 03:43 What a place.
- 03:45 I'm so thrilled to be here.
- 03:47 Our ministry's donors sent me here.
- 03:50 In fact, they pay that we can speak from this place to you.
- 03:55 Oh, I love it when the Word of God goes forth from Jerusalem.
- 04:02 But the Ezekiel story isn't as much the Word going forth from
- 04:07 Jerusalem as much as it is the Word
- 04:11 of the Lord about Jerusalem.
- 04:14 But not just Jerusalem.
- 04:16 Jerusalem, yes, but the whole world.
- 04:19 In Ezekiel, we see God's end game for planet Earth.
- 04:24 And inasmuch as today people scurry around to try and work up
- 04:28 peace to bring about a cessation of hostilities on planet Earth,
- 04:32 oh they try, but God has a plan, and he has a day.
- 04:37 He said, "[speaking in Hebrew]
- 04:41 There'll come a day when nation will not lift up sword against
- 04:46 nation, and neither shall they learn war anymore."
- 04:51 Well, what's the plan?
- 04:52 Ezekiel says, number one, Israel was reconstituted
- 04:55 as a nation state.
- 04:57 Number two, nations round about then are hell-bent on that
- 05:01 fledgling state's demise.
- 05:03 Friends, we live in a world today where Israel is
- 05:07 reconstituted as a nation state, and we live in a world today
- 05:10 when the nations round about are hell-bent on her demise.
- 05:15 In this series, we saw that Ezekiel was specific.
- 05:18 He speaks about forces being drawn in from ancient Persia
- 05:22 which will be modern Iran.
- 05:23 Likewise, he sees a coalition of forces galvanizing around a
- 05:27 strong northern power that enters into the stage
- 05:31 of the end-time drama.
- 05:33 It's striking the nature of the relationship between the
- 05:35 northern people and Persia, and this smells like Russia in the
- 05:39 one hand and Iran on the other.
- 05:42 We need to stay tuned to that story,
- 05:44 but as we wrap, pay attention to this story.
- 05:47 We'll see in a minute the Word of the Lord is that a temple of
- 05:51 Jehovah is rebuilt on this mountain,
- 05:54 and waters flow forth from this mountain.
- 05:57 They fill the valley and they fill the world
- 06:01 [speaking in Hebrew]
- 06:02 and when they fill it, they thrill it.

- 06:18 He says, "[speaking in Hebrew]

- 07:43 he sees the water of the river of life and the tree of life
- 07:47 there, and he says that the fruit of the trees is for the

- 07:53 Friends, I want you to know there's
- 07:54 a healing of the nations.
- 07:57 We live in a world today that's wracked by social unrest,
- 08:01 political intrigue, and it seems like the devil
- 08:04 is having his day.
- 08:06 But there comes a day when the swords are beat into plowshares.
- 08:11 Instead of energies being invested on self-defense and
- 08:14 aggression, energies are investing in tilling the earth,
- 08:18 and against that backdrop, God promises a bountiful earth when
- 08:22 the Word of the Lord comes forth from Jerusalem like
- 08:26 the prophets long ago envisioned.
- 08:29 And speaking of long ago, once upon a time, there was a place
- 08:32 called Eden, and we're told that rivers sprang forth
- 08:36 from Eden, and there was a tree of life there in the garden.
- 08:40 We're told that Eden was a paradise state where there
- 08:42 was felicity and peace.
- 08:45 Eden was wiped out when sin made its entrance onto the stage of
- 08:48 the human drama, but when one considers Ezekiel and his peace
- 08:53 process, Eden returns, and then the people of the earth come to
- 08:58 this hill and say, "Come, let us go to the mountain of the house
- 09:03 of the Lord and let's worship the God of Jacob."
- 09:07 If you're broken, distraught, if you have cares and despairs,
- 09:11 I want you to know there's a God who loves you.

- 09:34 Isaiah the prophet said, "Those that thirst come to the waters
- 09:38 and he who has no money come by and eat and come and drink and
- 09:42 there's food for weary souls."
- 09:46 I believe this from the bottom of my heart, and from this place
- 09:49 I want you to know that God wants to get into your space.
- 09:53 If--he stands at the door and knocks, and if you'd open up
- 09:57 the door, there's a whole new life that's available to you.

- 13:12 It's a visual treat for you, perhaps what

- 13:18 Let's go to Israel now.
- 13:22 narrator: Ezekiel's vision of a life-giving river that
- 13:25 flows from a future temple.
- 13:28 "It was a river that I could not pass over,
- 13:32 for the waters were risen, waters to swim in,
- 13:36 a river that could not be passed through."
- 13:41 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Judea was an agrarian society.
- 13:44 And Judah's rabbis envisioned that the messianic era would
- 13:47 come replete with verdant pastureland,
- 13:51 that gardens would be overflowing with enormous fruit,
- 13:55 and that's just not the wild imaginations of Judaism sages
- 13:58 because Ezekiel envisioned that at day's end,
- 14:02 here from Jerusalem, the temple would be rebuilt and he said
- 14:07 that water would flow from the temple and streams would gush
- 14:11 forth and the banks would be lined by trees that would bring
- 14:16 forth fruit not just seasonally but monthly,
- 14:21 big, plump, juicy fruits.
- 14:24 And this reflects an era where God's house is rebuilt,
- 14:27 where God's will and his ways are manifest afresh on the earth
- 14:32 and, as a result, there's bounty plenty.
- 14:35 Ezekiel told that story, and he wasn't alone.
- 14:38 Isaiah in his own way, in the 2nd chapter,
- 14:41 said, "In the latter days, the Lord's house would be made
- 14:45 glorious," on this mountain.
- 14:48 And after that, there's something Isaiah said that's
- 14:50 repeated in synagogues every week all over the world:
- 14:55 "[speaking in Hebrew]
- 15:01 that the law will go forth from Judah and
- 15:07 the Word of the Lord will go forth from Zion
- 15:11 from Judah as well."
- 15:12 What a story.
- 15:14 Isaiah saw it in his day and told it in his way,
- 15:18 and Ezekiel saw it as well.
- 15:21 But before Ezekiel saw the good news,
- 15:25 Ezekiel saw bad news. And why is that?
- 15:29 Because Ezekiel began as a refugee.
- 15:33 He was exiled.
- 15:35 He was a displaced person.
- 15:37 And if you've ever experienced divorce and you've looked at the
- 15:40 world with uncertainty, if you've lost a job,
- 15:44 you've looked at the world with uncertainty,
- 15:46 if you've lost limb, you've lost health,
- 15:49 and you've looked at the world with uncertainty,
- 15:51 then you know what it is to be in despair.
- 15:54 Ezekiel in his own way was there.
- 15:57 He was taken away from Judah with some 10,000 others,
- 16:01 displaced, taken off into captivity.
- 16:04 And why is that?
- 16:06 Because for a lengthy season, Judah was sinning.
- 16:11 Judah had turned their back from God, and prophets came to tell
- 16:16 them to mend their ways, but the people wouldn't hear it.
- 16:20 The net result is that judgment was decreed.
- 16:24 And so, Ezekiel was swept up in forces beyond his control,
- 16:29 taken off in the judgment.
- 16:31 But there, hundreds of miles away from Judah,
- 16:37 though he was away from God's land,
- 16:39 he wasn't away from God, and God wasn't away from him.
- 16:43 And why do I say that?
- 16:44 Because he says that.
- 16:46 In Ezekiel chapter 1, verse 1: "I saw visions of God.
- 16:54 And the hand of the LORD was upon him."
- 16:59 He saw visions of God.
- 17:01 God's hand was on his life, and God took him places,
- 17:04 he caused him to see things and know things that were
- 17:08 hidden from humans' eyes.
- 17:11 And hence, Ezekiel was a prophet, a great prophet.
- 17:16 He didn't just speak to his generation.
- 17:19 He spoke to ours.
- 17:23 And when we speak of Ezekiel and the Mid East Piece Process,
- 17:29 and if we asked the question of Ezekiel,
- 17:32 "What pieces are to be put in place in advance of God's taking
- 17:38 hold of this place, planet Earth?"
- 17:42 Ezekiel tells us explicitly, importantly,
- 17:46 Israel is reconstituted as a nation state.
- 17:52 He tells us that nations round about,
- 17:54 however, are hell-bent on Israel's demise.
- 17:59 Ezekiel speaks prophetic words, invective
- 18:03 against people round about.
- 18:06 He speaks of Ammon, Moab, and Edom, which will be
- 18:10 modern Jordan down to Saudi Arabia to the tip.
- 18:14 He speaks of Gaza, Philistia, which would be
- 18:17 the Gaza Strip of today.
- 18:19 He speaks of Tyre and Sidon, this would be in modern Lebanon.
- 18:24 He surveys the nations round about and he says judgment.
- 18:28 He speaks of Mizraim to the West and says judgment.
- 18:32 He talks of Persia, modern Iran, to the East,
- 18:37 and he says judgment.
- 18:39 The prophet says Israel is reconstituted as a nation state,
- 18:44 and in conjunction with all of that, he gives voice to powers
- 18:49 round about, mobilizing their energies,
- 18:52 bent on the destruction of the nation state of Israel that's
- 18:57 reconstituted and, friends, that's the story not just from
- 19:01 his day but that's a story for our own.
- 19:07 And inasmuch as Ezekiel saw a bad moon rising from the North,
- 19:13 and inasmuch as in cahoots with that, he sees monumental
- 19:16 forces from the East, from Persia.
- 19:20 Oh, friends, we can see this as a Russian
- 19:24 and Iranian confederacy.
- 19:26 And these forces are brought into the region
- 19:29 for a climactic battle.
- 19:32 So much for the bad news.
- 19:35 And now for the good.
- 19:38 God wins.
- 19:42 And he wins big, in such a way that the world might know him.
- 19:48 And in conjunction with the knowing,
- 19:50 here in Jerusalem the temple is rebuilt, and from that temple,
- 19:54 God's Word, his will, and his ways are made known finally
- 20:00 and fully on planet Earth.
- 20:04 Regarding that rebuilt temple, we're told
- 20:06 in chapter 47, verse 1:
- 20:11 "[speaking in Hebrew]
- 20:15 and he brought me back to the door of the house."
- 20:21 This visionary, this prophet, in the spirit is taken to
- 20:26 Yerushalayim, to Jerusalem, to the temple,
- 20:29 and he's brought to the house.
- 20:32 And what does he see?
- 20:34 Well, Jews say [speaking in Hebrew],
- 20:36 a great miracle happened there.
- 20:38 What does he see?
- 20:39 He sees [speaking in Hebrew],
- 20:41 he sees waters springing forth.
- 20:44 The Jerusalem temple is envisioned as a gusher.
- 20:47 Waters are coming out of the mountain, and they're spreading
- 20:50 to the East and they're flowing down the arid,
- 20:54 dry, lifeless, Judean hills, making it green, lush, verdant.
- 21:02 Those healing waters make their way down to the Dead Sea,
- 21:06 and the Dead Sea becomes the Once Dead Sea, and why is that?
- 21:10 Because in the rejuvenation, God makes things dead to live.
- 21:16 It's a story Ezekiel told it his way;
- 21:20 it's a story that seems to be unfolding in our day,
