• 00:38 Prophesy upon these bones and say unto them,
• 00:41 "Oh ye, dry bones, hear the word of the Lord."'"

• 01:13 David: "Ezekiel and the Mid East 'Piece' Process."
• 01:20 David: Thank you for joining us today.
• 01:21 I am David Hart.
• 01:23 Kirsten Hart: I'm Kirsten Hart.
• 01:24 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: I'm Jeffrey Seif.
• 01:25 Kirsten: Okay, guys, today is the infamous
• 01:28 "Gog and Magog," right?
• 01:30 The talk of who are these world powers that are gonna attack
• 01:34 Israel in the end?
• 01:35 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yes, the terms "Gog" and "Magog" might
• 01:39 not mean something to all that are listening but Bible readers
• 01:42 that are into prophecy, that are into Ezekiel,
• 01:46 that speaks to images of Russia,
• 01:50 the way it's been classically construed.
• 01:52 Ezekiel speaks of Israel's resurrection and then trouble
• 01:56 coming from the north, and that's the way those dots have
• 01:59 been connected, traditionally.
• 02:01 Kirsten: Yeah, I was--sorry, I didn't mean to jump on you,
• 02:03 but so many people, they all try to read into who is it?
• 02:07 Who's that world power?
• 02:09 And it's always kind of changing a little bit, isn't it?
• 02:11 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Well, the way people perceive
• 02:13 it is changing.
• 02:14 In terms of authorial intent, what Ezekiel had in mind,
• 02:18 even if we don't get the names all correct,
• 02:20 regional powers round about a reconstituted Israel invest
• 02:25 energies in snuffing the new state out.
• 02:29 And we certainly see that in modernity,
• 02:31 just as he spoke about in antiquity.
• 02:34 David: War coming up in this program, yes?
• 02:36 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: War, unfortunately, yes.
• 02:38 Wars and rumors of wars.
• 02:40 David: Yes, right now, we take you to Israel to hear more
• 02:44 about that future war with Dr. Seif's teaching.
• 02:47 Let's go there right now.
• 02:51 narrator: Ezekiel 38.
• 02:55 Place: a region north of Israel.
• 02:59 Time: the latter years.
• 03:06 A mighty army prepares to invade Israel.
• 03:10 All of them clothed with all sorts of armor,
• 03:14 even a great company, and thou shall come up against my people.
• 03:21 Surely in that day there shall be a great shaking
• 03:25 in the land of Israel.
• 03:29 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Why do the nations rage?
• 03:32 The Psalmist raised that question thousands of years ago
• 03:35 and I wanna raise it now and answer it.
• 03:39 And I want to identify particularly what nations.
• 03:43 Ezekiel, as we've seen in a previous segment,
• 03:47 noted how the nations round about Israel proper,
• 03:50 all around the rim of Israel, would incur God's judgment.
• 03:55 He mentioned Ammon, Moab, Edom, Philistia, Gaza.
• 03:59 He talked about Tire and Sidon, which is modern Lebanon.
• 04:04 In this segment, we'll see how Ezekiel expands the vision for
• 04:09 the war that plays out at the very edge of time.
• 04:14 Therein, Ezekiel goes beyond the local region and goes far north
• 04:18 to what would arguably modern Russia.
• 04:21 He goes to the far east, well, not to the Far East as we know
• 04:25 it, but certainly further from here,
• 04:27 when he looks at Persia which is modern Iran.
• 04:30 I find it interesting that people say,
• 04:32 "No nuclear problem there today," but the prophet Ezekiel
• 04:36 envisioned particular problems from that part of the world.
• 04:40 And then he goes over to Northern Africa as well,
• 04:43 as Ezekiel forecasts things to come in a world caught ablaze.
• 04:50 Here, I'm at a place where there's acre after acre of the
• 04:54 accoutrements of war, Phantom jets, Mirage jets.
• 04:58 It speaks of the technology of a bygone era.
• 05:02 There's different kinds of anti-aircraft battery.
• 05:05 Spirited souls fought.
• 05:08 Ezekiel had envisioned that Israel would be reconstituted at
• 05:12 a nation state.
• 05:13 Brave men lay down their life as God's instrument to facilitate
• 05:18 that happening.
• 05:20 And they armed these batteries and they manned these planes.
• 05:25 You can hear planes streaking overhead as Israel gears up its
• 05:29 military culture, as Israel makes itself ready for things to
• 05:34 come, things described by the prophet Ezekiel who noted in the
• 05:39 37th chapter that Israel would be reconstituted as a nation
• 05:43 state but then he went on to note that there's trouble coming
• 05:48 as Israel's reemergence invokes the ire of states round about
• 05:53 and brings into being then a conflict that will be a war that
• 05:57 has no equal in human history.
• 06:01 narrator: Invasion in Ezekiel's time:
• 06:05 spears, swords, the billowing clouds of barbaric hordes.
• 06:11 Fast forward 2600 years "and they shall know
• 06:16 that I am the Lord."
• 06:22 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yes, there'll be adversaries on the
• 06:25 ground and they'll be met by ground troops as well as forces
• 06:30 from the air.
• 06:32 I'm coming to you in front of a famous weapon in Israel's
• 06:35 arsenal, and this jet carried 28,000 pounds of bombs and I'm
• 06:42 sure before he took off that pilot decided to fasten his
• 06:47 seatbelts and now I want you to fasten yours and go with me on a
• 06:55 journey back to the future, back in time.
• 06:58 If you'll open up your Bibles please to the prophet Ezekiel,
• 07:03 the 38th chapter.
• 07:05 I'm gonna read this in my version.
• 07:08 You feel free to read it in yours.
• 07:11 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 07:14 "And the Word of the Lord came to me saying,
• 07:19 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 07:21 Son of man,
• 07:22 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 07:25 Son of man, set your face toward Gog,"
• 07:28 the leader of some confederacy,
• 07:33 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 07:35 "of the land of Magog."
• 07:37 Magog, by the way, is arguably a number of these countries,
• 07:41 just the southern part of the former USSR.
• 07:48 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 07:51 "The chief prince of Meshech and Tubal."
• 07:56 Both of these refer to lands south
• 07:58 of the Black and Caspian Seas.
• 08:01 As noted in a previous segment, here the prophetic word is
• 08:07 reaching beyond Israel and its immediate neighbors and it's
• 08:11 going into country that was once occupied by those that flew
• 08:17 under the banner of the USSR.
• 08:20 The prophet says,
• 08:22 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 08:24 prophesy against them
• 08:26 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 08:28 and say,
• 08:29 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 08:30 Thus saith the Lord God;
• 08:32 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 08:34 I am against thee, O Gog."
• 08:38 And it's not just Gog and those that work in that confederacy,
• 08:43 but--the confederacy just noted, but the list of countries that
• 08:48 are involved in this climactic war which God says he's against
• 08:52 is outlined further in verse 5,
• 08:55 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 08:57 which would be Persia in antiquity,
• 09:00 it's Iran in modernity.
• 09:02 There's a federation of Russian satellites and we're told here
• 09:09 that Perus is involved.
• 09:12 And you know, today, the relationship between Iran and
• 09:17 Russia is so very fascinating the way they've hopped in bed
• 09:20 with each other, politically, militarily.
• 09:23 It's the Russians that are helping fuel the nuclear program
• 09:28 that we're all like ostriches sticking our heads in the sands
• 09:32 just, maybe if we don't look at it,
• 09:33 we don't have to worry about it being there.
• 09:36 The people that flew this plane here in Israel,
• 09:39 they can't afford to be so comfortable.
• 09:42 They can't afford the exercise in self-deceit.
• 09:46 This prophet envisions there's a war.
• 09:49 In chapter 37, Israel is reconstituted.
• 09:52 In chapter 38, he sees energies being mobilized
• 09:56 against this fledgling state.
• 09:58 I wish people were Bible readers that made decisions about what
• 10:00 they thought was happening in the world
• 10:02 and how to deal with it.
• 10:03 Well, he mentions here in verse 5,
• 10:04 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 10:06 "Persia,
• 10:07 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 10:08 which would be Sudan bleeding into Ethiopia, and then he goes,
• 10:14 Put or Pot which is modern Libya.
• 10:18 What's interesting is this writer sees Israel central and
• 10:23 then this writer observes satellite Russian states,
• 10:28 this writer observes Persia or Iran,
• 10:32 this writer observes as well that states in northern Africa
• 10:38 getting involved in this coalition.
• 10:41 He mentions in verse 6:
• 10:44 [speaking in Hebrew],
• 10:46 well, he mentions Gomer, just leave it at that.
• 10:48 And then he says,
• 10:49 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 10:52 the house of Togarmah,"
• 10:53 and here we're looking at modern Turkey, arguably.
• 10:57 What you need to do is go to a Bible atlas and look at these
• 11:00 countries that are mentioned and see where they are,
• 11:03 and you'll see the countries round about Israel.
• 11:07 It's amazing that thousands of years ago,
• 11:11 this prophet called the shot, and these shots that are fired
• 11:17 in this war, indeed, will be shots
• 11:20 that are heard around the world.
• 11:23 And not only these states, but then he mentions
• 11:26 at the tail end of verse 6,
• 11:28 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 11:31 He says, "And many peoples with thee."
• 11:34 There's this massive coalition of forces that have their
• 11:39 energies vested in destroying this fledgling nation state.
• 11:45 In verse 8, we're told, "After many days this army will be
• 11:48 mustered for service: in the latter years--"
• 11:53 This is fascinating 'cause the author telegraphs
• 11:56 to the edge of time.
• 11:58 While it's true that from Ezekiel's perspective,
• 12:02 the Persians wound up getting the better of the Babylonians,
• 12:06 one could say that you can see movement in the area.
• 12:10 But there's nothing of the magnitude that's described here.
• 12:15 This beckons one to look beyond the present into the future.
• 12:21 And how fascinating is it that with the Hatikvah chapter,
• 12:26 with the regathering of Israel chapter,
• 12:28 right after that, this author describes participants in a war
• 12:34 and we're seeing this happen before our eyes today.
• 12:39 And this writer says that the war described yesterday
• 12:43 belongs to tomorrow.
• 12:45 He says, "This belongs," in verse 8, "to the latter years."
• 12:49 He says, "You'll come against the land
• 12:51 that's brought back from the sword."
• 12:54 Israel is the land that was brought back from the sword.
• 12:58 "That is gathered out of many peoples,
• 13:00 and you will come against the mountains of Israel."
• 13:04 The Bible said it, I believe it.
• 13:06 And what's fascinating is what the Bible said then,
• 13:10 seems to be happening now.
• 13:12 What a story.
• 13:14 The Word of God proves true, does it not?
• 13:17 ♪♪♪

• 15:34 narrator: "Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm,
• 15:38 thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land,
• 15:42 thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee."
• 15:48 ♪♪♪
• 15:53 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: And the dogs of war will be unleashed,
• 15:57 and the engines of war will be turned on and ramped up as
• 16:03 pressures in the region move people to a war,
• 16:08 the likes of which history has not seen.
• 16:14 Again, planes overhead, acres of planes round about.
• 16:20 I'm coming to you from Israel, a country that's known war
• 16:24 and is ready for war.
• 16:26 If you'll look with me in Ezekiel chapter 38,
• 16:29 verse 15, you'll discover that the war described here is
• 16:34 spearheaded that come from forces out of the uttermost
• 16:38 parts of the north.
• 16:41 If you would look from Israel proper and go due north,
• 16:44 you'd eventually run into Moscow.
• 16:47 Here, the prophet says, "And you'll come from thy place out
• 16:51 of the uttermost parts of the north,
• 16:54 you and many peoples with thee."
• 16:58 There's a federation.
• 17:00 We've already considered different parties
• 17:02 to that federation.
• 17:04 In verse 16, the prophet says that this conflict is reserved
• 17:09 for a point in history that this prophet calls,
• 17:11 quote, "The end of days."
• 17:15 He says, "And it shall be in the end of days that I will bring
• 17:18 you against my land."
• 17:21 My land, Israel.
• 17:23 At the ragged edge of time, forces are mobilized to bring
• 17:29 pressure to bear here in Israel.
• 17:34 What's the outcome of this struggle?
• 17:37 If you'll look with me, please, in verse 23 at the end,
• 17:42 we discover that, well, in the verse beforehand God is gonna
• 17:46 rain hail, brimstone, that forces are gonna be brought to
• 17:52 bear to hold at bay the masses whose energies are invested in
• 17:58 the destruction of the nation state of Israel.
• 18:02 The Bible says that "he who keepeth watch over Israel
• 18:06 neither slumbers nor sleeps."
• 18:09 But it seems to me that many in the church are slumbering and
• 18:13 sleeping today.
• 18:15 Many denominational officials have fallen asleep when it comes
• 18:19 to Israel and the Jews.
• 18:21 Many professors of theology have fallen asleep.
• 18:25 Many pastors are asleep, and many in the pews are unaware of
• 18:30 what's happening in the world because they don't perceive what
• 18:33 was forecasted in the Word.
• 18:36 Oh, if one would just take the Bible to mean what it says and
• 18:40 says what it means, faith would be built up.
• 18:44 But Jesus, in his parable, said, "At the end of days many will
• 18:49 slumber and sleep," but my hope is that many will wake up and
• 18:54 smell the coffee and see that God is at work in the world,
• 18:59 that forces aren't just spiraling out of control,
• 19:02 but rather the Lord is watching over his Word to perform it.
• 19:07 To what end?
• 19:08 In verse 23 he says, "Thus will I magnify myself,
• 19:15 and sanctify myself; and I will make myself known in the eyes of
• 19:20 many--many nations, and they will know that I am the Lord."
• 19:26 At the end of days, God shows himself strong with the net
• 19:31 result that people come to acknowledge the God of Israel.
• 19:35 But not everyone acknowledges the God of Israel.
• 19:37 We're told here in the text that forces from due north will
• 19:41 invest their energies against Israel,
• 19:44 which reminds me, here I am in front of this jet,
• 19:47 a Phantom, a jet of a bygone era,
• 19:50 that was commandeered by the Syrians that came to Syria by
• 19:55 way of Russia.
• 19:58 A Syrian pilot defected, came to Israel.
• 20:02 Israel offered the pilot residency.
• 20:05 He opted to later go to North America and,
• 20:09 while there, his head was unfortunately severed
• 20:12 from his body.
• 20:14 Time caught up with him and the Syrians let him know
• 20:19 what they thought of him.
• 20:21 Friends, I believe that time will catch up with us and,
• 20:25 instead of losing our heads, let's gain our wits.
• 20:29 And the way that we can get our wits,
• 20:31 I believe, is to look at world events through a biblical lens.
• 20:39 Scripture says the Lord declares the end from the beginning,
• 20:43 and I find it fascinating to hear review that the prophet
• 20:47 Ezekiel envisioned that God would bring judgment to bear
• 20:51 against the nations round about Israel.
• 20:54 And not just those bordering the rim,
• 20:56 but he mentions nations expanding due East and North
• 21:00 and West that come against Israel.
• 21:03 He notes as well that inasmuch as there's struggles against
• 21:06 Israel, and that context, he notes Israel's reemergence as a
• 21:11 strong nation state and then he says that these forces
• 21:15 eventually come against Israel but God watches over Israel and
• 21:20 gives Israel good success at the end of days.
• 21:22 What a story, what a Word, straight from the pages of
• 21:26 biblical literature.
• 21:30 Kirsten: So we know this coming war is imminent.
• 21:34 It's going to happen.
• 21:36 My question, and I think it's kind of an obvious,
• 21:39 what do we do with that information?
• 21:41 How do we walk out our day-to-day,
• 21:44 knowing this is coming?
• 21:45 It's very dooming.
• 21:48 We have to walk in hope, correct?
• 21:50 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: I think Americans,
• 21:51 whatever wars are happening in Middle East,
• 21:53 we're surrounded by thousands of miles of ocean on either side of
• 21:58 our country and we're not really worried about Canada,
• 22:00 we're not really all that worried about Mexico,
• 22:03 though there are concerns, to be sure.
• 22:06 But people in other parts of the world are very much concerned
• 22:09 about the geopolitical scene for fear of annihilation.
• 22:12 For us, it's like, hmm, I wonder what is gonna happen,
• 22:15 but we're not faced with the pressures associated with it.
• 22:19 I think Israelis that live in the land are concerned.
• 22:23 Similarly, mothers of Arab boys and girls
• 22:26 are concerned round about too.
• 22:28 It's the children of both that are gonna be involved
• 22:30 in a conflagration and, unfortunately,
• 22:33 Israel's presence stirs it up and there are tensions that
• 22:37 still abide to this day.
• 22:39 Goodness, Bible readers are concerned about trouble coming
• 22:42 from across the Euphrates.
• 22:44 That's where Iran is located.
• 22:46 To questions in today's program about Gog and Magog,
• 22:49 trouble coming from the north.
• 22:51 The northern bear, Russia, raises its hoary head,
• 22:55 so people are concerned but I think for us here,
• 22:59 it's more of a curiosity than anything.
• 23:02 Kirsten: Come--go ahead.
• 23:03 David: I was gonna say, we've been saying this for 40 years
• 23:06 on this program, at the end of our program,
• 23:08 "Pray for the peace of Jerusalem."
• 23:10 We don't just say it, but we mean that,
• 23:13 to pray for Israel, for Jerusalem.
• 23:16 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yes, and that's for the sake of Jewish
• 23:18 children and Arab children round about.
• 23:23 Blood flows the same color from both,
• 23:26 and mothers weep over the death of their sons in both cases.
• 23:30 And we want peace in the world for all peoples of the world.
• 23:34 While it's true, this program is game to accentuate Israel's
• 23:39 emergence in the latter days, but Israel's emergence isn't
• 23:46 to facilitate war, though apparently that happens.
• 23:49 But it's God's plan to rejuvenate and restore planet
• 23:52 Earth and all peoples and families on it.
• 23:56 Kirsten: I really appreciate you saying
• 23:57 about mothers on all ends.
• 24:00 If, you know, Russia's the Gog, if. If, if, if.
• 24:04 There are moms up there that those are their kids going out
• 24:08 to fight and those are husbands and brothers and we lose sight
• 24:12 of the humanity in the picture of what's coming.
• 24:16 And that's hard sometimes, to lose the humanity of it.
• 24:19 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Russian mothers have lost tens of
• 24:21 thousands of their own in recent memory.
• 24:26 You know, there's political intrigue.
• 24:28 Powers send these barely teenagers off
• 24:31 to war to do the dying.
• 24:33 And you know, I wanna be sympathetic toward all of that.
• 24:38 Kirsten: And I appreciate that and we have two boys.
• 24:41 I can't imagine them being involved
• 24:44 in this coming-up-time war.
• 24:46 Nobody wants that. We want peace.
• 24:48 And I think the good news of Ezekiel's message that the piece
• 24:52 of the puzzle is that God's hope is to restore
• 24:55 all of humanity also.
• 24:57 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yes, and we need it.
• 24:58 In the last 100 years, over 100 million have died.
• 25:02 And you know, in the Newer Testament we're told we're not
• 25:06 contending against flesh and blood, but--
• 25:10 and there is evil in the world and an evil one and,
• 25:14 you know, it's the young, principally,
• 25:17 that are thrown, you know, into these battlefields.
• 25:20 World War I wiped out teenage population in Europe, you know?
• 25:26 And it's tragic for everyone.
• 25:29 Kirsten: It is and I guess, in the meantime,
• 25:32 we pray, we pray, we pray for peace.
• 25:36 We pray for the people involved and we reach as many souls
• 25:40 as we can, I think.
• 25:42 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Well, kudos to those that pray for the world
• 25:46 and we wanna bring peace to all people in it.
• 25:48 I love Jewish people.
• 25:50 I love the Israeli nation state.
• 25:52 I love and God loves Arab peoples too.
• 25:55 May it be that what it says on the Christmas cards comes true
• 25:58 soon: Peace on Earth and goodwill
• 26:00 toward all women and men.
• 26:02 David: "Red and yellow, black and white,
• 26:03 all are precious in his sight."
