• 00:19 well, the Philistine connection
• 00:22 with the Nephilim. Giants such as Goliath have long become pop
• 00:24 culture references, but there is a much
• 00:26 more insidious story to these invaders from Crete.
• 00:29 The Bible, Egyptian, and Greek histories
• 00:32 clearly trace the original Kefteu
• 00:35 from Egypt to Crete.
• 00:37 These genius builders and nautical warlords
• 00:40 were ahead of their time in technology and weaponry.
• 00:43 Plato referred to them as Atlanteans,
• 00:45 descended from the god Atlas.
• 00:47 Modern historians called Minoans,
• 00:49 descended from the god Minos,
• 00:52 but their true ancestor was Casluhim,
• 00:55 but they became the Caphtorene of
• 00:57 Caphtor, Crete.
• 00:59 After the destructive eruption of the great volcano
• 01:02 in Santorini, aka Atlantis, the Minoans were hunted
• 01:05 out of the Aegean Islands by the Mycenaeans of
• 01:08 mainland Greece.
• 01:09 Eventually they would make it to the shores of Israel,
• 01:12 landing on the coast of Gaza, Ashkelon, and Ashdod,
• 01:16 eager to restore Atlantis to this new world.
• 01:19 They became known as the Philistines.

• 01:43 The challenges we face today do not recognize borders.
• 01:45 It is time for a unified global answer.
• 01:55 Caleb Colson: Well, look at this, everyone.
• 01:56 We are here at Ashdod Yom Fort.
• 02:01 Very, very cool, this ancient fortress.
• 02:03 You know, the city of Ashdod Yom
• 02:07 was actually separate from Tel Ashdod,
• 02:09 which is three miles from here, southeast.
• 02:13 You know, people read about Ashdod in the Bible,
• 02:15 they didn’t know that there was a port city
• 02:16 that got all the imports from around the world,
• 02:19 and this was a very important place for business
• 02:22 and for commerce, but when you go
• 02:24 to Ashdod–Tel Ashdod, which was the main
• 02:28 city inland, you can’t really
• 02:29 see everything, you know.
• 02:31 It’s been buried by dirt.
• 02:33 They did dig it up and they found
• 02:35 all these artifacts, these ruins,
• 02:38 but in Israel once they dig up something, they usually
• 02:42 like to cover it back up again if they
• 02:44 don’t plan on it being a major site,
• 02:45 ’cause it would erode over time.
• 02:47 So you can’t really see what’s going
• 02:49 on in Tel Ashdod today.
• 02:51 Joshua: Unfortunately, out of sight,
• 02:53 out of mind could be a prevalent mindset here
• 02:54 in Israel.
• 02:55 The Muslims spend so much time trying
• 02:57 to erase all existence of the Jews
• 02:59 in this land, their heritage, and right to it.
• 03:02 Hirchie Shaffner: Yeah, the amazing part of that is though,
• 03:04 you know, the rocks cry out, right.
• 03:06 They hold the history.
• 03:08 The evidence is coming out more and more,
• 03:10 and we see it right here at Ashdod Yom Fort
• 03:13 that’s got history after history after history,
• 03:16 and it’s revealed right in front of our eyes right here.
• 03:18 Joshua: Let’s go check it out.
• 03:20 Joshua: Joshua 13:3, “From Sihor,
• 03:22 which is east of Egypt as far as the border of
• 03:24 Ekron northward,
• 03:26 (which is counted as Canaanite);
• 03:27 the five lords of the Philistines-the
• 03:29 Gazites, and Ashdodites, and the Ashkelonites,
• 03:33 and the Gittites, and the Ekronites;
• 03:35 also the Avites.”
• 03:37 Caleb: Very beautiful fort.
• 03:38 Ashdod, guys, was one of five
• 03:41 Philistines pentapolis cities.
• 03:42 You may have heard of them in the Bible.
• 03:45 There was Gaza, Ekron, Gath, Ashkelon.
• 03:49 So the Philistines inhabited these areas,
• 03:51 and when Joshua and the children of Israel
• 03:53 came into the Promised Land, the Philistines had
• 03:56 already set up shop here, but they originally
• 03:58 took the land from the Avin, the Avites
• 04:00 that were originally here, and we’ll talk
• 04:02 about them later, but very important to the story.
• 04:05 Joshua: This medieval fort right here
• 04:06 was named Minat al-Qal’a and it was built
• 04:09 to protect the Ashdod Yom port.
• 04:12 Eventually the Umayyad Muslims would come
• 04:14 and attack and take over, but then later on you
• 04:18 have the crusaders come and take it over,
• 04:21 ’cause that’s what the crusaders always did.
• 04:23 Hirchie: What’s amazing too is archaeologists have come
• 04:26 in this area and actually found items
• 04:28 and artifacts that were Canaanite
• 04:31 in the late Bronze Age, so that predates
• 04:34 the Philistines, you know, and so the Hebrew word
• 04:38 for Philistine actually means invader, and,
• 04:42 you know, with the sea behind us they call
• 04:45 these Atlanteans from Crete the invaders,
• 04:49 which is what the Philistines are,
• 04:51 which is what the Palestinians
• 04:52 now kind of set in as invaders to this land.
• 04:56 Caleb: That’s a very good moniker.
• 04:57 They chose well.
• 05:02 Joshua: Deuteronomy 2:23, “And as for the Avvites
• 05:05 who lived in the villages as far as Gaza,
• 05:07 the Caphtorites coming out from Caphtor
• 05:09 destroyed them and settled in their place.”
• 05:13 Caleb: So that scripture was a perfect
• 05:14 example of the Philistines pulling off their
• 05:16 namesake, invaders.
• 05:18 You know, the Avites, the Avim, lived here first,
• 05:21 and then the Caphtorene, the Atlanteans, the Minoans,
• 05:26 the Philistines, whatever you want to
• 05:28 call them, came here and they wiped out the Avim
• 05:30 and took over their land.
• 05:32 That’s why they’re called the invaders,
• 05:34 but it’s interesting to note that the Avim
• 05:36 themselves were giants or at least
• 05:38 the descendants of the Nephilim,
• 05:40 and people ask how do we know this?
• 05:42 Deuteronomy 2, Moses gives a genealogy of
• 05:45 where all the giants in Canaan came from,
• 05:47 where they inhabited, and how God drove
• 05:50 out a buttload of giants in advance of the
• 05:53 Israelites coming.
• 05:54 Joshua: So these Minoans like Crete,
• 05:55 ’cause even though they were nearly eradicated
• 05:57 by the Mycenaeans were still pretty formidable
• 05:59 if they were able to take out colonies of giants.
• 06:02 Caleb: That is true.
• 06:03 Hirchie: Yeah, we–’cause later in history
• 06:04 we see that the Philistines have giants in their armies,
• 06:08 we know it throughout scripture, and it’s
• 06:10 not surprising because knowing that Zeus
• 06:13 and Poseidon were potentially the fathers
• 06:15 of these Nephilim breeds.
• 06:17 Joshua: 1 Samuel 5, 1 through 3, “After
• 06:20 the Philistines had captured
• 06:22 the ark of God, they took it from Ebenezer
• 06:24 to Ashdod.
• 06:25 Then they carried the ark into Dagon’s temple
• 06:27 and set it beside Dagon.
• 06:29 When the people of Ashdod rose up early
• 06:31 the next day, there was Dagon, fallen on his face
• 06:34 on the ground before the ark of the Lord!”
• 06:36 Caleb: This is when God smites
• 06:37 the Philistine god Dagon, and everybody reads
• 06:41 this story and they see that Dagon doesn’t have feet.
• 06:45 He has arms, torso, and head, so they think
• 06:47 that he’s linked with this Poseidon god,
• 06:52 but you see that the judgment
• 06:54 that comes against the Philistines is rats
• 06:57 and tumors that afflict Ashdod
• 06:59 and then eventually Gath and Ekron,
• 07:02 and the Philistines don’t know what to do.
• 07:04 They try to get away from it, but people think
• 07:09 that Tel Ashdod was the site of where
• 07:11 the temple of Dagon was, but in fact,
• 07:14 when archaeologists looked for it, they could not find it.
• 07:17 They believe now it was here in Ashdod Yom.
• 07:20 There’s so much coastline, this was a more
• 07:23 important city than Tel Ashdod in the future.
• 07:27 In fact, Sargon the Second, the Assyrian king,
• 07:30 mentions Ashdod Yom when he conquers
• 07:33 the port city in 713 BC.
• 07:36 Joshua: It’s important to note that the Philistines
• 07:39 at this time period were kind of like
• 07:40 the “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
• 07:42 They were owned by the Disney Corporation.
• 07:44 they were fierce.
• 07:46 They took everybody out.
• 07:48 Nobody wanted to run into them
• 07:49 on the Mediterranean, but during this time
• 07:51 period of the showdown of the Ark of the Covenant
• 07:54 they were getting more and more landlocked
• 07:55 even though they continued to trade.
• 07:57 Hirchie: Yeah, and even though God
• 07:59 brought them in here, they got here
• 08:01 and they became too powerful, and
• 08:03 so even before Samuel faced them, God had
• 08:05 to weaken them, and he had a plan,
• 08:08 but to get there we got to go all the way back
• 08:10 to Egypt, which is a long way from here.
• 08:14 Caleb: Yes, it is.
• 08:16 Joshua: 1 Chronicles 1:8, 11 through 12, “The
• 08:19 sons of Ham were Cush, Mizraim
• 08:21 [Egypt],
• 08:22 Put, and Canaan.
• 08:24 Mizraim begot Ludim, Anamim, Lehabim, Naphtuhim,
• 08:30 Pathrusim, Casluhim,
• 08:33 (from who came the Philistines and the Caphtorim).”
• 08:37 Caleb: Hey, we made it to another of the five
• 08:39 pentopollis Philistine cities.
• 08:41 This is Tel Ashkelon, guys.
• 08:43 You know, Canaan’s sons messed up bad
• 08:45 by intermingling with the Nephilim,
• 08:47 creating a bunch of demon hybrid spawn, and Mizraim,
• 08:50 Egypt, gave birth to Casluhim,
• 08:52 who ended up traveling north to Crete and he
• 08:55 became the father of the Minoans, the Atlanteans.
• 08:58 Well, the Minoans, Atlanteans, started
• 09:00 becoming really strong and powerful.
• 09:02 They ended up coming to the shores of Canaan,
• 09:05 even settling in Gaza.
• 09:07 So they were quite formidable, even
• 09:09 weakening the Hittite Empire, which allowed
• 09:11 the Egyptians to come in at the Battle of Kadesh
• 09:13 in 1274 BC and just wipe them
• 09:16 off the pages of history.
• 09:17 It’s crazy.
• 09:19 Hirchie: That’s a lot, man, and it appears
• 09:21 that this Minoan or Philistines group
• 09:23 formed a league of pirates, arg.
• 09:26 You know, they came in and
• 09:29 these people of the sea came in and they actually
• 09:32 delivered that death blow to the Hittites,
• 09:34 which pretty much ended the Bronze Age.
• 09:37 Joshua: They eventually set their sights
• 09:38 on the Egyptians, and maybe they were trying
• 09:40 to get back at them from back in the day when,
• 09:43 you know, the Minoans reached out
• 09:44 to their allies, Egypt, when this volcano erupts
• 09:48 and all of a sudden they’re being attacked
• 09:50 by Mycenaea, and guess who doesn’t come to their aid?
• 09:52 Their ally Mizraim.
• 09:54 So at this point they’re like, you know what?
• 09:56 Battle of the Delta 1175.
• 09:58 Joshua: Egypt beat down the prideful
• 09:59 confederation of the sea peoples and the Philistines
• 10:02 retreated back to their pentapolis in Canaan.
• 10:07 Joshua: Stay with your allies, suckers.
• 10:10 Joshua: Judges 1, 18 through 19,
• 10:13 “Also Judah took Gaza with its territory,
• 10:16 Ashkelon with its territory, and Ekron with its territory.
• 10:19 So the Lord was with Judah.
• 10:21 And they drove out the mountaineers,
• 10:23 but they could not drive out the inhabitants
• 10:24 of the lowland, because they had
• 10:25 chariots of iron.”
• 10:29 Caleb: It’s a beautiful view, gentlemen.
• 10:31 You know, Caleb and the tribe of Judah,
• 10:33 they were successful at wiping out
• 10:35 those Nephilim tribes in the mountains of Judea,
• 10:38 but not in the plains.
• 10:39 They couldn’t take out these Minoans,
• 10:42 these Philistines.
• 10:43 They were quite formidable because they were iron forgers.
• 10:47 Now I know most historians say
• 10:48 that that started with the Hittites,
• 10:50 but you can see even back before the time
• 10:52 of the Flood that Tubalcain, in Genesis 4:22, he
• 10:56 learned ironworking from the watchers.
• 10:59 It was a skill that was passed down.
• 11:01 Joshua: Thankfully, with the Egyptians
• 11:03 crippling the sea people, the Philistines
• 11:04 were also weakened.
• 11:06 During the time of the judges Israel was never
• 11:08 going to uproot them.
• 11:10 Shamgar had an awesome battle where he won.
• 11:12 Love that guy.
• 11:14 We had Samson.
• 11:15 He took out Dagon’s temple in Gaza.
• 11:18 Great battle.
• 11:20 Even Samuel, Samuel led a battle
• 11:22 that won as well.
• 11:24 They couldn’t uproot ’em.
• 11:26 Caleb: Well, this isn’t our first time
• 11:28 in Tel Ashkelon, Josh.
• 11:29 I remember this Canaanite arch gate.
• 11:32 It’s the oldest arch gate in the entire world.
• 11:35 It’s beautiful, but it was here long
• 11:37 before those Minoans showed up.
• 11:39 I believe it was probably built
• 11:40 by the Avim, those giant race
• 11:42 before them, but it’s very interesting.
• 11:45 Not far from here archaeologists discovered
• 11:47 a Philistine graveyard with hundreds of Philistine
• 11:51 skeletons, and for the first time
• 11:52 in history they were able to do a DNA test on them
• 11:56 and truly discovered that they weren’t
• 11:57 genetically Canaanites.
• 11:59 They came from the Aegean islands,
• 12:01 but after a while when they came
• 12:03 here, they ended up intermarrying with them,
• 12:05 but that goes to prove that even the, quote,
• 12:09 “Palestinians” weren’t Philistines because they’re
• 12:12 Aegean seafaring people.
• 12:15 Hirchie: So the Minoans actually began
• 12:16 to drop their culture.
• 12:19 They began to change their gods,
• 12:21 who they worshiped and how they worshiped,
• 12:23 much like the Israelites, but they adopted
• 12:25 part of the Canaanite culture and religion,
• 12:28 which is known as syncretism.
• 12:31 Joshua: Honestly though, I think that we should
• 12:32 probably investigate a little bit more
• 12:33 into these jacked up religions.
• 12:36 It’s going to take us going to the two remaining
• 12:38 cities of the Philistines.
• 12:40 Obviously we should start with Gaza.
• 12:42 I’m going to head there first.
• 12:44 Hirchie: Gaza? Joshua: 100% Gaza.
• 12:45 Caleb: As much as I like that idea, I don’t know if we can–
• 12:48 Joshua: Already there.
• 12:49 Come on. Stop running away from Gaza.
• 12:52 Joshua: 1 Samuel 17:4, “A champion named Goliath,
• 12:55 who was from Gath, came out
• 12:57 of the Philistines camp.
• 12:58 His height was six cubits and a span.”
• 13:02 Joshua: You know, Goliath was a part of
• 13:03 that new breed of Nephilim.
• 13:04 In a time period where the average
• 13:06 height of the man was five foot tall,
• 13:07 nine feet nine inches, it’s highly formidable.
• 13:11 You look at Goliath’s chest piece, the armor,
• 13:14 125 pounds, spearhead, 15 pounds, but
• 13:18 still nowhere near the size of the
• 13:19 ancient Nephilim.
• 13:21 Like, King Og, dude was way bigger.
• 13:23 Caleb: You know, I remember when we were on Crete
• 13:25 and we saw those giant labrys axes that were like,
• 13:28 taller than you.
• 13:29 I mean, not far from here at Kafar Mannash,
• 13:33 a Philistine city, they found four
• 13:36 giant spearheads.
• 13:38 Now, a typical size of a spearhead
• 13:40 for this Canaanite era was eight inches long.
• 13:43 They found one that was 26 inches long.
• 13:46 These were huge, made of bronze.
• 13:48 Then they found bronze giant chain mail,
• 13:51 hundreds of pieces that would like,
• 13:53 the size of a giant that I would have to wear,
• 13:55 and that’s all at the Israel Museum.
• 13:57 Hirchie: And then the chain mail
• 13:58 that was found here in the city of Gath,
• 14:02 where Goliath was from as a Gittite, right here,
• 14:06 which is why we’re walking up this nice steep hill
• 14:10 to get to this to maybe find
• 14:12 some more evidence.
• 14:14 Caleb: I can’t believe we just made it to the top of Gath.
• 14:17 Sign proves it.
• 14:18 We are up here on the Acropolis, guys.
• 14:21 You know, Gath was called Tzafit back then
• 14:25 by the Israelites.
• 14:26 Most of these locations throughout Israel
• 14:28 have a Canaanite name and then it has a Hebrew name
• 14:30 to it, but the Arabs call this location Tell es-Safi.
• 14:34 Hirchie: Yeah, and the most important
• 14:36 thing about this particular city,
• 14:38 this was the capital city of the Philistines.
• 14:40 This city, even though it’s desolate
• 14:43 now, was actually larger than Jerusalem,
• 14:46 larger than Samaria, pretty much larger
• 14:47 than any other city during that time, which is amazing.
• 14:51 So you’ve got 125 to 150 acres
• 14:55 that this took place in with high terraces
• 14:58 as well as a lower city that would have been just
• 15:00 down there in that valley area.
• 15:02 Joshua: Well, after the Babel
• 15:03 and everyone was dispersed, this became
• 15:05 like the hot spot that everyone wanted to occupy.
• 15:08 Obviously you have the Shfela lowlands,
• 15:09 which is perfect for chariot riding
• 15:11 and all that stuff.
• 15:12 Azekah is not far from here towards the east,
• 15:14 and then we have the Valley of Elah
• 15:16 that begins, and that’s literally
• 15:18 where the Philistines set up camp to destroy
• 15:20 the Israelites, and obviously we know
• 15:22 where the epic two second battle between Goliath
• 15:25 and David took place, or should I say
• 15:27 one sw–of the slingshot and he’s gone.
• 15:31 Caleb: This is very cool.
• 15:33 Joshua: 2 Samuel 21, 15 through 17, “David went
• 15:37 down with his men to fight against the Philistines…
• 15:40 And Ishbi-Benob, one of the descendants
• 15:42 of Rapha, whose bronze spearhead
• 15:44 weighed three hundred shekels and was armed
• 15:47 with a new sword, said he would kill David.
• 15:49 But Abishai son of Zeruiah came
• 15:52 to David’s rescue; he struck the Philistine
• 15:55 down and killed him.”
• 15:57 Caleb: Man, remember David had the faith
• 15:59 to kill Goliath, but not just Goliath.
• 16:02 His four brothers as well.
• 16:03 He got those five smooth stones, ’cause he was going
• 16:05 to take all of them out.
• 16:06 He knew about revenge and that someone was going
• 16:08 to come back to get revenge,
• 16:10 so he had to take all those out,
• 16:11 but an amazing archaeological discovery
• 16:13 was found here in 2005 that verifies,
• 16:17 again, it’s kind of a hint from God, this is
• 16:19 the place, even though they knew it
• 16:21 was Gath.
• 16:22 It’s called the “Goliath Shard.”
• 16:24 It was a piece of Philistine pottery called ostracon,
• 16:28 and written on that is a name,
• 16:30 the name that bears the same etymology to Goliath.
• 16:33 It was Goliath.
• 16:34 They found the name of Goliath here.
• 16:36 Very cool.
• 16:38 Caleb: What’s cooler to me is scripture
• 16:39 always reveals things first.
• 16:41 2 Samuel 21, 18 through 22, describes four more
• 16:44 descendants of Rapha and Gath.
• 16:46 Not only are they described as giants with great
• 16:49 strength, they had six fingers
• 16:51 and six toes on each hand and foot.
• 16:53 Hirchie: So here we see
• 16:55 some of the abnormalities of gigantism, just saying.
• 17:02 You know, Rapha, who is
• 17:04 the father of Rephaim, this new
• 17:06 breed of the Nephilim, this new breed
• 17:10 that was here, but we know through
• 17:12 scripture that David still had that seed
• 17:16 that was coming forward from the woman
• 17:18 that would crush the head through Yeshua.
• 17:21 Joshua: God definitely chose David to be
• 17:23 the bearer of the seed to destroy the serpent,
• 17:25 like you said, and well, Goliath, the seed of Rapha.
• 17:29 Caleb: Wa wa, seed of the devil.
• 17:32 Joshua: Devil seed. Caleb: Decapitated.
• 17:34 Joshua: Awesome.
• 17:36 Joshua: 1 Chronicles 11, 22 through 23,
• 17:39 “Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of valiant
• 17:44 man of Kabzeel, who has done many acts;
• 17:47 he slew two lionlike men of Moab…
• 17:50 And he struck down an Egyptian
• 17:51 who was five cubits tall.”
• 17:53 Hirchie: You know, another important note
• 17:55 about this city is in the 800 year period
• 17:59 when the Canaanites and the Philistines
• 18:02 were actually occupying this land,
• 18:04 the crazy thing about it is as we look
• 18:07 at all this, is this wall was built higher
• 18:12 and wider than anything else during that time frame,
• 18:14 up to six times larger, where the city walls
• 18:17 were 13 feet wide, 33 feet tall.
• 18:20 Nothing around that time frame outside of it
• 18:24 is built even near that.
• 18:26 Caleb: But there is a very important story
• 18:28 that precedes that which we are focusing
• 18:31 on about the Ark of the Covenant,
• 18:33 and remember, they took it from Ashdod.
• 18:35 They had to bring it to a new location.
• 18:37 They brought it here in Gath.
• 18:40 Joshua: 1 Samuel 5, 8 through 10, “So
• 18:42 they called together all the rulers
• 18:43 of the Philistines and asked them,
• 18:45 ‘What shall we do with the ark of the God
• 18:47 of Israel?’
• 18:48 They answered, ‘Have the ark
• 18:50 of the God of Israel moved to Gath.'”
• 18:52 Hirchie: This ruined Philistine temple here
• 18:55 was discovered right by this parking lot,
• 18:59 and what’s amazing, this thing sent shock waves
• 19:02 through the whole world who found out about this thing.
• 19:06 As we look at it and jump down here,
• 19:11 the size of this is actually the same size
• 19:15 as what would have been in the temple,
• 19:17 in the tabernacle, so the equation of it
• 19:20 is pretty mind boggling.
• 19:22 Caleb: This altar, when I look at it
• 19:24 I remember reading all about the articles
• 19:27 why it shocked the world so much because
• 19:29 this is a Philistine temple here,
• 19:32 and Canaanite temples, Hebrew temples,
• 19:35 they had horns on the corners
• 19:36 of each altar, but here they only
• 19:39 found two horns.
• 19:40 No other place in all of Israel
• 19:42 have they found that, but they have it in Crete.
• 19:46 They have in Crete because the Minoans
• 19:50 had two horns for this horns
• 19:52 of concentration altar that they had.
• 19:55 They honored at Kenosis the bull Minotaur hybrid,
• 20:00 you know.
• 20:01 We talked about that, Josh.
• 20:03 Remember when we went to Kenosis?
• 20:04 It was terrifying, the labyrinth
• 20:05 that was there, and so this is
• 20:08 that connection that the Philistines
• 20:10 incorporated some of their old Minoan, you know, gods
• 20:14 or deities.
• 20:15 They worshiped Zeus Velchanos
• 20:16 and they incorporated it here while mixing with
• 20:20 that Canaanite worship.
• 20:21 So are we going to get to do the bull leaping
• 20:23 that the Minoans did?
• 20:24 Let’s go find a bull and jump over it.
• 20:25 Joshua: How come all demon altars have flies
• 20:27 and some kind of crazy infestation of bugs?
• 20:29 Caleb: There’s a lot of bugs everywhere.
• 20:31 Hirchie: Bugs everywhere.
• 20:32 Joshua: 2 Kings 1:2, “Now Ahhaziah fell
• 20:35 through the lattice of his upper room
• 20:36 in Samaria, and was injured;
• 20:38 so he sent messengers and said to them, ‘Go,
• 20:40 inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron,
• 20:43 whether I shall recover from this injury.'”
• 20:46 Caleb: Well, we spent a little
• 20:48 bit too much time on Gath, and now it’s dark trying
• 20:50 to find Ekron.
• 20:52 This’ll do.
• 20:53 Joshua: Whoops a daisy.
• 20:55 Caleb: We are in Ekron territory.
• 20:56 Joshua: It’s true.
• 20:57 Hirchie: Well, you know, the scripture we
• 20:59 saw–we see they worshiped Baal-Zebub.
• 21:03 He was a Canaanite god, but is there more to that story?
• 21:08 Joshua: There’s always more to the story, that much I know,
• 21:11 because we are here in Ekron, in this ancient territory
• 21:14 where it was, and we’re at Kibbutz Revadim.
• 21:18 Why, because they have set up this ancient
• 21:21 street of exactly what it would have looked like
• 21:24 in a Philistine street in Ekron back
• 21:26 during the Iron Age.
• 21:27 This–you would have rolled up
• 21:29 if you were like, low riding and your low ride chariot
• 21:31 was bouncing like that, it would have been on one of
• 21:32 these streets.
• 21:34 Joshua: 2 Kings 1:3, “But the angel of the Lord
• 21:37 said to Elijah the Tishbite, ‘Arise, go up
• 21:40 to meet the messengers
• 21:41 of the king of Samaria, and say to them, “Is it
• 21:43 because there is no God in Israel that you are going
• 21:45 to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?”‘”
• 21:49 Hirchie: Ah, Baal-Zebub.
• 21:52 Good old Baal-Zebub, the lord of the flies, right.
• 21:55 You know, the crazy thing is that Moses
• 21:58 and a lot of the writers would make
• 22:00 fun of the Canaanites god’s names, and
• 22:03 so they give him this name, Lord of the Flies,
• 22:05 Baal-Zebub, but his name was in Canaanite Baal-Zebul,
• 22:11 which meant Lord of the Dwelling,
• 22:14 or Lord of the Heavenly Dwelling.
• 22:16 Caleb: But it’s interesting, when you read
• 22:17 about this version of Baal in the Ugaritic
• 22:20 texts, he’s more like a hero, you know.
• 22:23 He’s the one who expels flies,
• 22:25 and flies were related to sickness.
• 22:26 He expels, he makes the sickness go away,
• 22:30 but in the Minoan and Mycenaean culture
• 22:33 this Baal is just given a different name.
• 22:35 He’s Zeus Apemios or Zeus Myiagros,
• 22:39 and when they brought their deities or their gods
• 22:43 into Canaan, they kind of merged
• 22:45 parts of the Canaanite gods with parts of the stories
• 22:47 of their gods, and it became
• 22:49 that syncretic, you know, connection of merging
• 22:53 deities together, but literally where we’re
• 22:56 at now, 5 kilometers that way is
• 22:59 where the ancient city of Ekron was.
• 23:06 Joshua: It’s still dark.
• 23:07 Hirchie: Still dark.
• 23:10 Well, and like we said, we’re not at Ekron or Tel Miqne
• 23:15 because it’s a field, and, you know,
• 23:18 there was a time where archaeologists
• 23:20 uncovered everything and it’s pretty amazing,
• 23:22 but then they just piled dirt back on it,
• 23:25 so rather than be that.
• 23:27 Caleb: But if we had gone to that field and it
• 23:29 was unburied and uncovered, in the lower
• 23:32 part of the city they discovered a massive
• 23:35 temple complex and inside
• 23:38 the holy of holies of this temple area
• 23:40 they found the Ekron royal dedicatory inscription.
• 23:45 It was one of the most important finds
• 23:47 in Israel ever discovered.
• 23:49 It not only said that that area,
• 23:51 that city was Ekron, but it gave
• 23:53 a list of the names of the kings of the city,
• 23:55 the one who built this temple,
• 23:57 and the name of the king that the temple is dedicated
• 24:00 to was King Akish the Achaean,
• 24:04 the Achaean meaning Greek, meaning, hey,
• 24:06 this Philistine dude came from that territory of the Greek
• 24:10 islands and now he was ruling in power,
• 24:12 but interesting enough, they had artifacts dedicated
• 24:16 to this Baal, the storm god, you know, Baal-Zebub,
• 24:21 but also a goddess, Ptgyh or Pythogaia
• 24:26 in the Greek, you know, which comes from Gaia,
• 24:29 the mother Earth goddess, you know.
• 24:32 That was going back from Greece, Mycenae, you know, all of that.
• 24:36 That’s not found with the Canaanites,
• 24:38 so that was a merging of these two
• 24:40 cultures, and it’s kind of interesting
• 24:42 because there’s an ancient inscription
• 24:47 in Assyria, ancient Assyria.
• 24:49 Nimrud was the city.
• 24:52 These carvings, these reliefs show
• 24:55 the campaign of Tiglath-Pileser III
• 24:58 when he conquered Gaza, and out of the temple of Gaza
• 25:01 he took three gods, three idols,
• 25:05 and carried it back to Assyria,
• 25:07 and you see pictures, visual depictions
• 25:10 of these three gods, this kind of storm god,
• 25:12 this Baal Zeus, and two goddesses.
• 25:17 It’s very interesting that, again,
• 25:18 this mother goddess cult with also who is
• 25:22 this other goddess listed in there.
• 25:25 It’s a very interesting connection.
• 25:27 Joshua: Zephaniah 2:4, “For Gaza shall be forsaken,
• 25:31 and Ashkelon desolate; they shall drive out Ashdod
• 25:34 at noonday, and Ekron shall be uprooted:”
• 25:38 Caleb: Guys, that scripture of the desolation
• 25:41 mentioned there is very important
• 25:43 because Ekron today, why we couldn’t go there?
• 25:46 There’s nothing left.
• 25:47 It was never rebuilt.
• 25:48 It’s just a place of desolation.
• 25:52 God’s Word is true.
• 25:53 Prophetically it came about.
• 25:54 You know, it actually happened when this antichrist
• 25:58 Nebuchadnezzar came and he wiped out
• 26:01 the Philistines.
• 26:02 He wiped out Ekron, destroyed it never
• 26:03 to be rebuilt again, and you don’t see
• 26:06 the Philistines in history past that point,
• 26:10 and so this whole story that we’ve been telling
• 26:13 all throughout the day now and tonight about
• 26:15 the syncretism of this merging of cultures
• 26:18 and religion, I believe it’s
• 26:20 a foreshadowing of what is to come with
• 26:23 that one world government of the beast
• 26:25 that he’s going to establish in the end times,
• 26:27 and he’s going to have a one world religion,
• 26:30 and it’s going to be like a revived
• 26:32 Babylonianism, but it’s going to mix
• 26:34 all these different religions together,
• 26:36 some Islam, Catholicism, some Christianity,
• 26:39 throw in some of this Minoan worship, these classic gods
• 26:41 and goddesses, ’cause when it really comes
• 26:44 down to it, it was all the beginning
• 26:46 with Nimrod.
• 26:48 Nimrod created the first one world
• 26:51 pagan religion, idolatry.
• 26:53 The last Nimrod is going to finish it with
• 26:56 another one world idolatrous religion.
• 27:00 Hirchie: Full circle, man.
• 27:03 Joshua: So much idol talk.
• 27:04 Did you know that there’s more to this story?

• 27:08 He prides himself on having all the story,
• 27:10 but I have another piece to this equation of two
• 27:12 goddess worship because they
• 27:14 discovered something.
• 27:15 They discovered something called
• 27:16 the Phaistos Disc.
• 27:20 This sucker in Crete, so mysterious,
• 27:23 so enigmatic, they still haven’t
• 27:25 got it all figured out yet, so we got to go back
• 27:27 to Crete and gotta look–
