- 10:11 on David.
- 10:13 Little did I know that in conjunction with our arrival
- 10:16 and filming, we would have one of the greatest
- 10:19 modern discoveries in the history of biblical archeology.
- 10:25 I know it sounds overstated, but it isn't.
- 10:29 Articles are appearing in major Israeli periodicals,
- 10:34 on the Internet, right here, the Northeastern hills of Elah
- 10:40 in the ruins of Qeiyafa, we have a fortress
- 10:43 that dates back 1000 BC.
- 10:47 Now, what makes this find striking,
- 10:50 and I'm coming to you from the middle of it.
- 10:53 What makes it striking is the fact that, right here,
- 10:58 very recently unearthed were the oldest Hebrew scripts found
- 11:04 to date, predating the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls
- 11:09 by almost a millennia.
- 11:12 And that's striking for a variety of reasons,
- 11:15 and why is that?
- 11:17 Because this was a fortress that dates back to the era of David.
- 11:23 That's significant because we live in a world today
- 11:25 where there are many revisionist sorts that are trying
- 11:29 to rewrite history.
- 11:31 Justice in America: "Oh, it wasn't really
- 11:33 a Christian country originally."
- 11:35 You know, they wanna rewrite history in order to foist
- 11:38 their agenda on modernity.
- 11:42 Similarly, in Israel, there are individuals that are looking
- 11:45 for a disconnect from biblical heritage.
- 11:48 "Well, there never was a King David," they say.
- 11:50 Well, it was harder to say it when up North some years ago
- 11:53 found was an inscription to the House of David, right there,
- 11:57 Tel Dan, at the far North, and now here in a fortress
- 12:01 that dates back to David's day, we find Hebrew script.
- 12:06 And this is interesting in part because the fact that
- 12:09 there would be a Hebrew fort here, it's an extension fort.
- 12:12 Arguably, there was a strong kingdom in Jerusalem
- 12:15 and this was an outpost here that was established,
- 12:18 not far from where the biblical story played out
- 12:21 once upon a time when David went against Golyat,
- 12:25 Goliath.
- 12:27 It's a great story.
- 12:29 Biblical history is interesting and we find that modern
- 12:31 archeology in various ways corroborates
- 12:34 the biblical narrative, and what's happening here
- 12:37 at this site argues to that effect.
- 12:40 But my purpose here isn't to talk about biblical archeology,

- 12:49 to hear from him and learn from him today.
- 12:53 I'd like you to turn in your Bibles please to 1 Samuel.

- 13:01 It just so happens in life sometimes culture turns
- 13:05 against us, circumstance turns against us,
- 13:08 and we find ourselves being pushed back.
- 13:10 David was so disconcerted when he discovered that his town was
- 13:16 overrun, his family was taken captive, everything was taken,
- 13:20 in fact, and people were so mad at him as a leader,
- 13:23 they were ready to stone him.
- 13:25 We're told in the Hebrew Bible, chapter 30, verse 6:
- 13:28 "[speaking in Hebrew]
- 13:30 And David was greatly distressed,"
- 13:33 because of the defeats that he had experienced just then,
- 13:37 and people, we're told, were ready to stone him.
- 13:40 Leadership is very precarious, just like standing here
- 13:43 is precarious, to tell you the God's honest truth.
- 13:45 Sometimes, the winds blow for you,
- 13:46 sometimes against you.
- 13:48 David was on the downside of it all, but we're told here
- 13:51 in the text: "[speaking in Hebrew]
