  • 00:08 On today's program, take time to celebrate our Savior, the light
  • 00:12 of the world, and take a peek at what's coming your way in 2022.
  • 00:18 David: Thank you so much for joining us today.
  • 00:20 I am David Hart.
  • 00:21 Kirsten Hart: I'm Kirsten Hart.
  • 00:23 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: I am Jeffrey Seif.
  • 00:25 There's an old saying, "Put on your yarmulke,
  • 00:27 it's time for Chanukah."
  • 00:29 Well, it was time.
  • 00:31 David: I love that song actually.
  • 00:33 Kirsten: It came early this year, didn't it?
  • 00:35 It depends on what calendar, and when, and--
  • 00:37 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Beautiful holiday season.
  • 00:39 Guess who celebrated it?
  • 00:40 Kirsten: Our Messiah did.
  • 00:42 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Jesus did, yes.
  • 00:43 Kirsten: See, I grew up-- this is interesting, I think.
  • 00:45 You probably did too.
  • 00:46 In the church, we thought Chanukah is for the Jewish
  • 00:48 people, Christmas is for the Christians,
  • 00:50 but our Savior celebrated it.
  • 00:53 It's for everyone, isn't it?
  • 00:54 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: He surely did.
  • 00:56 Now, Christmas--and I'm for remembering Jesus's entrance
  • 00:58 onto the stage of the human drama, but it wasn't a holiday
  • 01:01 until 400 or 500 years after Jesus.
  • 01:04 The early church wasn't as interested in baby Jesus.
  • 01:07 They were interested in the resurrected Jesus with new life,
  • 01:10 and it didn't become a holiday til centuries removed.
  • 01:14 David: Many of us watching today have had struggles
  • 01:17 with family, with sickness, whatever it may have been.
  • 01:21 Word for me today is "hope" at this desk.
  • 01:24 There's hope for us.
  • 01:26 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yes indeed.
  • 01:27 Hope was born and hope is alive today.
  • 01:29 Kirsten: And we have that because so many that we've
  • 01:32 studied this past year and will study coming up walk through so
  • 01:37 many journeys that give us hope.
  • 01:38 We learn from their stories.
  • 01:40 And we learn all about Paul in the series,
  • 01:44 "In the Footsteps of the Rabbi from Tarsus."
  • 01:47 Let's look at some excerpts of that program
  • 01:49 and that series now.

  • 02:47 ♪♪♪
  • 02:52 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: He could be described as something
  • 02:54 of an angry man, to put it mildly, actually.
  • 02:57 Luke tells us that he was breathing threats,
  • 03:00 and not just idle threats, murder on top.
  • 03:03 Didn't wanna just hurt them, he wanted to destroy them.
  • 03:06 Who's the "he" and who's the "them"?
  • 03:08 The "he" is a fellow named Shaul, a member of the Perushim.
  • 03:13 Perushim comes from "parash" in Hebrew,
  • 03:16 a verb meaning to be separate.
  • 03:17 It was a party, 6,000 or so individuals in Jesus's day, one
  • 03:21 of whom was this fellow named Shaul, or Paul.
  • 03:24 And there was this movement that was getting up and going in
  • 03:27 Yerushalayim, in Jerusalem, and he was not a happy camper.
  • 03:30 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Not everybody loved him,
  • 03:32 but they came to respect him.
  • 03:34 This is a man that said what he thought, and these apparently
  • 03:35 weren't just his thoughts, but rather, other--
  • 03:38 under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he went forth
  • 03:40 and changed the world.
  • 03:42 And off into the world we go as we walk in the footsteps
  • 03:46 of this rabbi from Tarsus.
  • 03:49 ♪♪♪
  • 03:55 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: In his own world, Paul had a vision.
  • 03:58 Oh yes, like others, he was indelibly marked, impressed by
  • 04:03 his experience with Jesus, but his experience was different
  • 04:07 than the earlier disciples.
  • 04:09 For Paul himself never drank any water turned to wine,
  • 04:12 never ate any fish on any mountainside
  • 04:15 that had been multiplied miraculously.
  • 04:17 He never heard a single parable roll off of Jesus's lips.
  • 04:22 Paul had no firsthand experience,
  • 04:24 and he was bent initially on destroying those who did.
  • 04:29 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: It seems that those who were first called
  • 04:31 Christians in Antioch, that they were instructed to be of
  • 04:36 assistance to the Jewish folk in Jerusalem.
  • 04:40 It's a great story, isn't it?
  • 04:41 Well, Paul and Barnabas go down there with aid that was gathered
  • 04:46 together in Antioch, and they make their way to Jerusalem.
  • 04:49 They deliver that package and then they make their way back to
  • 04:52 Antioch, and it's from there then that God's going to bless
  • 04:55 them and send them to points.
  • 04:58 As we follow on Paul, we see how he makes his way out into the
  • 05:02 Greco-Roman world.
  • 05:04 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Enthusiasm comes from the Greek "entheos,"
  • 05:07 and it means "in God."
  • 05:09 And you can bet that the rabbi from Tarsus was bristling
  • 05:14 with enthusiasm, and he'd need it too.
  • 05:17 He'd call upon that "in God" that sense of inspiration.
  • 05:21 "Inspiritus" means to breathe the Spirit in.
  • 05:24 He needed it too because trials awaited him as this man traveled
  • 05:28 over land, as he went by sea, as he endured shipwreck, as the
  • 05:34 hazards of the journey impinged upon him many ways, many days.
  • 05:39 But onward he went, braving all the difficulties associated
  • 05:43 with the journey.
  • 05:45 And why is that?
  • 05:46 Because the rabbi from Tarsus was a man with a mission.
  • 05:52 Kirsten: Wonderful teaching as always, Dr. Seif, but there
  • 05:55 is one scene in this whole series where you had to stand
  • 05:59 in the ocean.
  • 06:01 I'm not gonna feel too bad for you.
  • 06:03 David: Mediterranean.
  • 06:04 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Actually, the Aegean,
  • 06:06 which kind of extends out.
  • 06:07 Oh, I was glad to be there, to tell you the truth.
  • 06:09 Thank you, Jesus, for that water.
  • 06:11 It was like 116, 117 degrees.
  • 06:13 I remember shooting in Corinth.
  • 06:15 Oh my goodness, and our producer tortured me to death.
  • 06:18 It's not only hot, but you have to balance the light,
  • 06:21 so there's a reflector on my face.
  • 06:23 Oh, it was a mess, but I love doing it.
  • 06:25 Kirsten: You made it through.
  • 06:27 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Thank you, thank you, yes.
  • 06:28 Kirsten: And our viewers brought you there
  • 06:30 for this incredible teaching, so thankful.
  • 06:31 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yes, now there,
  • 06:33 I'm thankful that people took me out beyond Israel.
  • 06:37 Now, I gotta ask you for your help in helping me
  • 06:40 and us get back there.
  • 06:42 You know, it's been COVID and it's harder to travel,
  • 06:46 but oh goodness, there's stories to tell.
  • 06:49 Please, end of the new year, we're all about getting to the
  • 06:52 old land and telling these old stories with a brand-new set
  • 06:57 of dramas and the like.
  • 06:59 And thank you for helping us.
  • 07:01 We just so love you for it.
  • 07:02 David: We have a series that's just waiting for us to
  • 07:04 get back to Israel, to the Sea of Galilee, all about Peter.
  • 07:08 We're supposed to be singing on a Jesus boat, and we're kinda
  • 07:11 grieving that we can't get there right now, but hopefully soon.
  • 07:14 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Soon.
  • 07:15 Kirsten: We will be back. We will be back.
  • 07:17 And also, something brand new.
  • 07:19 You've never taught on Jeremiah before.
  • 07:21 That's something that's coming up in this new year, right?
  • 07:24 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yeah, I love it.
  • 07:25 Jeremiah, fascinating stuff about the new covenant,
  • 07:27 fascinating insights.
  • 07:29 I've never done a series on Jeremiah here, but as
  • 07:32 a professor, I've been into his world on more than one occasion.
  • 07:35 I'm really happy to bring it to you.
  • 07:38 David: Let's take you right now to a little excerpt
  • 07:40 of Jeremiah.
  • 07:43 ♪♪♪
  • 07:53 ♪♪♪
  • 08:03 ♪♪♪
  • 10:25 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: You might recall the story in Yirmeyahu.
  • 10:28 The name itself speaks of God's appointing.
  • 10:32 He gives voice to the fact that he was young of age and actually
  • 10:35 rather resistant to it.
  • 10:37 "Lord, woe is me. Why me?
  • 10:39 I'm too young for this."
  • 10:41 He wasn't altogether pleased because he was speaking
  • 10:46 at a really tough time.
  • 10:48 The nation was at a really tough place.
  • 10:53 Jeremiah says, "You know, I'm a youth.
  • 10:55 I'm too young for this," and there's some pushback here.
  • 10:59 It comes in response to a charge noted in the Hebrew.
  • 11:02 I'll read it in chapter 1, verse 5, "Hikdashticha."
  • 11:07 The Lord says, "I've appointed you," or "I've given you
  • 11:11 to this particular task."
  • 11:13 "Navi laggoyim," that is, "to be a prophet,
  • 11:16 a voice to the nations."
  • 11:19 "Netatticha," and he says, "I have appointed you."
  • 11:24 Many would be thrilled by that.
  • 11:27 You know, if you've ever been to an ordination service for people
  • 11:29 going into the ministry, it tends to be a rather exciting
  • 11:32 time for those that are beckoned to give voice to the good news.
  • 11:37 The problem here, while there is good news, the good news
  • 11:42 is over the horizon.
  • 11:45 What's at the forefront indeed is bad news, and he saw it.
  • 11:50 He knew the dogs of war were going to be unleashed
  • 11:55 onto the people of Judah.
  • 11:58 ♪♪♪
  • 12:02 David: That was an excerpt from "Jeremiah," and he has the
  • 12:05 title of "The Weeping Prophet."
  • 12:07 Can you expound on that just a little bit for these folks
  • 12:10 and for us?
  • 12:11 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yeah, on the quick, it was a tough
  • 12:13 moment, you know?
  • 12:14 He had to call out the king, the merchant class,
  • 12:17 the priestly class, all of it.
  • 12:20 You know, they were doing it all wrong.
  • 12:21 And it's kinda like today, you know, in the sense the wind was
  • 12:25 blowing in the wrong direction, and he was trying to turn it all
  • 12:29 back, but he knew it wasn't gonna be a good outcome.
  • 12:32 Kirsten: I've always said that prophecy in the church
  • 12:35 right now, in 2021 and 2022, is different from
  • 12:40 the Old Testament prophecy.
  • 12:42 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Yeah, we think of a prophet coming and
  • 12:44 giving a word about the church or about someone's personal
  • 12:46 life, and I don't wanna discredit any of that, but these
  • 12:49 prophets spoke to kings and elites, and it affected
  • 12:53 the course of nations.
  • 12:54 They're trying to turn 'em back to the Lord.
  • 12:56 If the king turns, then maybe the ship will turn.
  • 13:00 David: We have more excerpts coming your way of series
  • 13:02 coming up.
  • 13:04 Let's show you those right now.

  • 13:55 male announcer: It was a slaughter field.
  • 13:57 Never before had King Saul ever witnessed such carnage.
  • 14:02 The Philistines had killed his three sons, and now in the last
  • 14:06 moments of this hopeless battle, the wounded king pleaded
  • 14:12 for his own death.
  • 14:14 Loyal to the end and gripped with fear, his armor-bearer
  • 14:19 refused the king's plea, and so it was that Saul would use his
  • 14:25 sword one last time.
  • 14:42 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: The expression to fall upon one's sword
  • 14:46 speaks of someone taking their own life.
  • 14:49 And we're at a place in David's life where he's learned
  • 14:53 that his nemesis has fallen upon his own sword.
  • 14:59 ♪♪♪

  • 15:19 ♪♪♪
  • 15:29 ♪♪♪
  • 15:39 ♪♪♪
  • 15:43 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: It's a fascinating story, it seems to
  • 15:45 me, where people can be--they can be Jewish but not in touch
  • 15:50 with the God of the Jewish people or the covenant
  • 15:53 literature of the Jewish people.
  • 15:56 And actually, tragically, in looking at the book of what we
  • 16:04 call 2 Kings here, it's been such a bad ride in Judah.
  • 16:13 I mention that as ever since the civil war.
  • 16:17 There are 28 kings here.
  • 16:21 Only eight of them are pious.
  • 16:24 You know, behind me now there's piety at play, individuals who
  • 16:30 reflect a kind of commitment to the terms of the covenant,
  • 16:33 but it had long since been forgotten.
  • 16:36 Happily, someone rediscovered it, a king.
  • 16:39 And I think, by the way, that we do better when we have leaders
  • 16:42 in power that happen to have something of a love for the
  • 16:47 Hebrew literature.
  • 16:51 David: The Word of God has given us examples of faith
  • 16:54 that have shaped virtually every aspect
  • 16:56 of the believer's life today.
  • 16:59 Where would we be without the examples of Noah, Abraham
  • 17:03 and Isaac, David, and ultimately that of Yeshua Jesus?
  • 17:10 Faith is woven into the fabric of America as well.
  • 17:14 From the Pilgrims to John Adams, to Patrick Henry
  • 17:18 and George Washington, God's providential hand
  • 17:21 remained highly esteemed and honored above all.
  • 17:26 Faith unshakeable, faith unstoppable,
  • 17:30 "Faith of Our Fathers."
  • 17:34 Betsy Ross: Good day, sir. Thank you for coming.
  • 17:36 male: Good day, Betsy. It's my pleasure.
  • 17:39 It seems you've been given a godly task.
  • 17:41 Betsy: Must be, sir. I feel so unworthy.
  • 17:45 I'm good with needle and thread, and I cut well with scissors,
  • 17:48 but this is all so new to me.
  • 17:51 male: I believe Mr. Payne has said it well.
  • 17:53 These are the times that try men's souls.
  • 17:57 It's new to all of us, giving birth to a new nation.
  • 18:00 It's not just you.
  • 18:03 We're all feeling dependent on God's providential hand as we--
  • 18:08 David Barton: The third most significant source was
  • 18:10 John Locke, his "Two Treatises of Government."
  • 18:11 In less than 400 pages, he cites the Bible references
  • 18:14 over 1,500 times.
  • 18:16 But quoted four times more often than any of these works,
  • 18:19 12 times more often than this, was the Bible.
  • 18:21 The Bible was the single most cited source
  • 18:23 in the American founding.
  • 18:25 Thirty-two percent of all quotes came out of the Bible.
  • 18:28 That is the foundation for America.
  • 18:31 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Perfect.
  • 18:32 David: There's so much more we want to bring you in 2022,
  • 18:35 which is coming very soon.

  • 18:56 The sets are gorgeous. There's costuming.
  • 18:58 There's a lot involved.
  • 19:00 There's a lot of cost, be we wanna do it first class.
  • 19:03 And you bring first class teaching.
  • 19:05 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: Well, when we did the series,
  • 19:07 "Prince of Peace," we built a little village there on the Sea
  • 19:09 of Galilee, you know, and it doesn't come cheap.
  • 19:13 In fact, we talk about the Prince of Peace.
  • 19:15 I'd like for a moment to speak about the price of peace.
  • 19:19 And I can think of, right of the bat, certainly the soldiers that
  • 19:22 go into harm's way in order to preserve our way of life.
  • 19:25 I think of the police as well.
  • 19:27 But principally, I think of Jesus.
  • 19:30 When I think of the price that he paid in order that we can
  • 19:33 have the life that we have, I really feel thankful
  • 19:37 this time of the year.
  • 19:38 Similarly, when I think of the price, I think of the price
  • 19:43 that you pay to help us to say what we say.
  • 19:47 Of course, as Kirsten just noted, and David,
  • 19:51 it's not just word.
  • 19:53 It's music, it's vision, it's Israel.
  • 19:57 Thank you for helping us to do it.
  • 19:59 And I want you to know that as you sow seed in helping us
  • 20:05 to tell this story, it doesn't go unnoticed.
  • 20:09 I think the Lord is on his throne, so pleased to see people
  • 20:13 sacrificing, giving.
  • 20:15 Inasmuch as Jesus shared his blood for the world, when you
  • 20:20 share your lifeblood to tell the story in the world through your

  • 20:25 I believe the Lord is too.

  • 23:32 the seven-year period of Tribulation that follows.
  • 23:36 Now, we'll talk about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ
  • 23:39 back to this earth.
  • 23:42 What is the Second Coming?
  • 23:45 We need to differentiate between the Rapture
  • 23:48 and the Second Coming.

  • 23:55 Dr. Todd Baker: Why is the city of Jerusalem important?
  • 23:58 The city of Jerusalem is a paramount metropolis in the land
  • 24:01 of Israel where the greatest events in history have occurred
  • 24:05 and the monumental events in Bible prophecy
  • 24:08 have yet to occur.
  • 24:10 The city of Jerusalem is located on a plateau in the Judean
  • 24:14 Mountains between the Dead Sea and the Mediterranean.
  • 24:18 It is surrounded by valleys and dry river beds, with the valleys
  • 24:22 of Tyropoeon, Hinnom, and Kidron being the three main valleys
  • 24:26 of the city.

  • 24:35 David: Hi, everybody. David and Kirsten Hart here.

  • 24:39 We--if you've joined us before, we've had a lot of interesting
  • 24:42 guests, but we have the most important guest
  • 24:46 with us today right here.
  • 24:48 Kirsten: Our boss!

  • 24:53 I don't know, you're just one of the many people that the Lord's
  • 24:56 brought into this wonderful mosaic, you know?
  • 25:00 And we've carried on now for 42, going on 43 years
  • 25:04 with the television program, "Our Jewish Roots."
  • 25:07 But you know, it's really a God thing to see how everybody's
  • 25:11 worked together so beautifully.
  • 25:13 It goes way beyond me.
  • 25:16 Kirsten: Well, but it started with you, right?
  • 25:18 Ken: Well, me and Zola.
  • 25:20 There's this guy, Zola Levitt.
  • 25:24 Let me share a little bit of background
  • 25:26 to how it all started.
  • 25:30 I used to listen to a radio program daily, hosted
  • 25:33 by Zola Levitt, called "Heart of the Matter."
  • 25:39 Kirsten: In this beautiful season of light and also of
  • 25:42 giving, we just want you to know that we are appreciative
  • 25:46 for everything that you do for this ministry.
  • 25:49 You support Israel by supporting our program.
  • 25:52 Just wanna say my mom and dad, for the first time a few months
  • 25:56 ago, I got to see their will.
  • 25:58 And you're right there with me with all of this planning for
  • 26:02 them, and they left part of their estate to this ministry.
  • 26:07 I'm not telling you you have to do that, but there are creative
  • 26:10 ways that you can give and make a difference in this world.
  • 26:15 Dr. Jeffrey Seif: My mom and dad didn't leave a dime
  • 26:17 to this ministry.
  • 26:19 I was raised Jewish.
  • 26:21 They didn't understand the Jesus story.
  • 26:23 I wonder if today if they could look at the Jesus story with
  • 26:27 a Jewish lens if it would make a difference.
  • 26:30 I believe it would, and I believe that it's you that helps
  • 26:35 us make a difference.
  • 26:37 Now, you might be thinking, "Boy, these people are talking
  • 26:39 about money a whole lot."

  • 26:42 When you watch our programs, we rarely do it, to tell you
  • 26:45 the truth, but we do it at the end of the year.
  • 26:47 People are a little more disposed to do gift-giving in
  • 26:51 the name of the Lord and what have you, so we're kinda riding
  • 26:54 that wave a little bit.
  • 26:56 But we really do need your help.
  • 26:59 This isn't a "me" thing. It's not even a "we" thing.
  • 27:02 It's all of us, please.
  • 27:04 I'm so appreciative that your family is gonna leave some
  • 27:07 money, but I hope they live a long time.
  • 27:10 We need money in the bank to pay the bills in 2022, so I gotta
  • 27:14 ask you, please get behind us, and help.
  • 27:16 Surely we would appreciate it and God'll bless you
