• 00:23 Jeffrey Seif: And I am Jeffrey Seif and this guy's excited
• 00:25 to add my voice to speaking about our Jewish roots.
• 00:30 You know guys I've been doing it for years, 30 years as a Bible
• 00:33 college seminary professor, many years on TV.
• 00:36 I'm just glad people want to know Jesus and I'm glad they
• 00:39 want to know Jesus Jewish style.
• 00:41 Kirsten: I like that.
• 00:42 David: We have a name change.
• 00:44 It's been a while that we've been talking about this, kind
• 00:45 of a secret, but I'm excited about this new title
• 00:49 that we have.
• 00:50 Kirsten: New season.
• 00:52 Jeffrey Seif: Yeah, I mean, it's an it's a new name, but for me
• 00:53 business as usual, in the sense that to me I'm all about opening
• 00:56 up the book and offering a telling of it generation
• 00:59 to generation.
• 01:00 I don't care what name it's branded under personally, I just
• 01:03 care what's written on the pages needs to go on through the ages
• 01:07 and you know, sometimes you need to repackage it, but it's all
• 01:10 about the story.
• 01:11 Kirsten: Well, you do some new things with this story.
• 01:13 We have a brand new series that you haven't even debuted yet.
• 01:17 "Joshua, More Than a Conqueror."
• 01:18 Jeffrey Seif: We've got a lot of new stuff.
• 01:20 Last I checked there's over 1000 pages and Cecil B. Demille
• 01:22 said you give me two pages of the Bible I can give
• 01:25 you an epic motion picture.
• 01:26 I think those that make this book boring oughtta be sued
• 01:29 for malpractice.
• 01:30 That's what I think.
• 01:31 I mean, there's a lot of good stuff in here.
• 01:34 And this ancient book, we need to give it a fresh look and see
• 01:38 how it applies to modern circumstance and sin.
• 01:41 It's a fascinating story.
• 01:43 David: You sound passionate about it.
• 01:45 How did this new series come about?
• 01:47 Jeffrey Seif: Well, really I hope the Lord is the impetus
• 01:51 behind it, but humanly speaking, we kick this stuff around myself
• 01:55 and our producer Ken Berg go back and forth.
• 01:57 He lets me take the lead on one.
• 01:59 Here's what I think, Ken, let's go with it, but then even when
• 02:02 he says, here's what I wanna do, Jeff, he gives it to me and lets
• 02:06 me develop it and run with it.
• 02:07 He's good with managing me.
• 02:08 He says, "Jeff, look you know, it's gotta come from your heart,
• 02:11 if it's gonna be believable.
• 02:13 And if you and the Harts are gonna give it a telling, there's
• 02:15 gotta be some authenticity."
• 02:16 So he lets me run with it but it comes as a result of a little
• 02:19 bit of back and forth.
• 02:21 Kirsten: We have all kinds of new things for you in 2020,
• 02:24 new series.
• 02:25 We have new things that are just on the Internet, on our website,
• 02:29 on our Facebook page, on our Youtube page, things that only
• 02:33 you can see on the social media sites.
• 02:36 So keep looking at those.

• 02:47 David: Right now, let's go to some highlights from our new
• 02:48 series, "Joshua, More Than a Conqueror."
• 03:31 Joshua: What happened at Mount Sinai was a miracle.
• 03:34 Personal message to Moses inscribed in stone, by the very
• 03:39 finger of Adonai.
• 03:41 Days later, it's left me wondering.
• 03:44 Still searching for words to explain our journey
• 03:47 on the Mount.
• 03:54 Why did he choose me?
• 03:57 He could have chosen any of the elders.
• 04:00 Gershom and Eliezer.
• 04:06 There was this thick cloud that covered us.
• 04:10 For six days nothing can be seen.
• 04:15 And all the more I wondered why he chosen me?
• 04:19 Jeffrey Seif: As though Moses gets all the attention initially
• 04:23 and rightly so as the principal leader he had an assistant.
• 04:28 His name was Joshua, interesting fellow to be sure.
• 04:33 His name was Hosea originally but his name was changed.
• 04:37 From a word for salvation Jehoshua that is God is
• 04:42 salvation.
• 04:44 And he was going to learn that.
• 04:47 Interesting word in Hebrew.
• 04:48 In Greek, salvation, sozo, means save.
• 04:53 It means healed, be made whole, put back together again.
• 04:58 The word Yeshua or Joshua in Hebrew, it means to heal.
• 05:04 It means to deliver.
• 05:06 It means to redeem, to save.
• 05:10 And Joshua was all that and in so doing he led Israel.
• 05:16 And he indeed was more than just a conqueror, though he was that
• 05:20 to be sure.
• 05:23 It's been a miraculous journey.
• 05:25 The Jordan River has dried up to facilitate it's crossing.
• 05:29 The mighty walls of Jericho have fallen down and now
• 05:33 with heaven-sent cunning, Joshua leads his men to yet another
• 05:37 victory at the city.
• 05:42 It went up in flames and finally, Israel got burned
• 05:47 beforehand, however, in another sense and I'm gonna tell that
• 05:51 story here today.
• 05:53 It's a tragic story actually.
• 05:55 Victories, one thing, defeats another.
• 05:57 In the Bible, we get a little bit of both.
• 06:00 Actually, in the Scripture, if you look at the miraculous
• 06:05 victories so far, the parting of the sea, the Jordan,
• 06:08 Israelites crossing through.
• 06:11 17 verses for that.
• 06:13 If you look at the miracle and the war at Jericho, the sum
• 06:18 total of 27 verses for that.
• 06:21 The battle of AI, a small city.
• 06:25 It shouldn't have taken much.
• 06:27 It was a tragedy, 81 verses, by my reckoning for that
• 06:34 in the Hebrew Bible.
• 06:36 You know men, we want the best in life, we feel we don't
• 06:38 always get it.
• 06:40 We think we will we go for an ideal, we think we've got
• 06:41 a raw deal.
• 06:43 Get that faith at work and seek the Lord for what he would have
• 06:46 you to do and find the divine strategy he has for you to help
• 06:50 you to be the head and not the tail, to be a conqueror
• 06:54 and not conquer, to be a victor and not a victim.
• 06:58 And you yourself can experience with God, how like Joshua you
• 07:02 can be more than a conqueror.
• 07:11 Kirsten: Our series "Joshua More Than a Conqueror" debuts

• 07:32 from Tarsus," all about Saul who became Paul.
• 07:35 We'll follow his journey this March.
• 07:38 Now here are some excerpts from that program.
• 07:44 ♪♪♪
• 08:29 Jeffrey Seif: Something strange happened to him on that road
• 08:32 to Damascus.
• 08:34 Many years ago, the rabbi from Tarsus traversed the path
• 08:39 and there he was knocked off his horse.
• 08:42 He was as good as blind, so much so that he had to get led
• 08:46 into Damascus by the hand, and there one of the brethren
• 08:51 laid hands on him and Paul began to see.
• 08:56 Oh, but this man didn't just see things materially.
• 08:59 He was given a kind of spiritual vision as well.
• 09:03 And what he envisioned would change the world.
• 09:12 Seems that in Jerusalem proper and proximity to the temple
• 09:16 there were porches round about.
• 09:18 And one of which we're told that the believers met it was a place
• 09:21 called Solomon's Portico.
• 09:22 And there they would teach and discuss the issues
• 09:25 of the day.
• 09:26 And there was a whole lot of discussion going
• 09:28 on about a lot of things, principle among them was
• 09:30 the question: What on God's Earth is the rabbi from Tarsus
• 09:36 doing?
• 09:38 Word had spread of his ministry to individuals of non-Jewish
• 09:42 extract.
• 09:44 And people were disconcerted.
• 09:46 Prior to this time, those who follow Jesus were Jewish people.
• 09:50 They were women and men of Jewish extract who lived
• 09:52 and function as Jews.
• 09:54 They were Jewish people, who were for Jesus, but what now?
• 09:58 Women and men of non-Jewish extract were coming
• 10:01 in but the question is, what do we do with that?
• 10:10 Jeffrey Seif: Paul came to Rome as a courtesy of the state.
• 10:13 He had appealed to Caesar and the Caesar, he came here
• 10:17 in Rome.
• 10:18 You'll see some sites behind me.
• 10:20 One is an Arch of Constantine.
• 10:21 Came a bit later.
• 10:23 The Forum is in close proximity, as is the great Coliseum
• 10:27 behind which came a little later as well.
• 10:29 But this is Rome and when Paul was here initially, he came here
• 10:33 as I've said.
• 10:34 He was transported courtesy of Rome by a Centurion.
• 10:37 He was under house arrest and it's from here, where he
• 10:40 wrote a few epistles.
• 10:43 It seems to me that the church has gone, has its various
• 10:45 traditions, but we do well to open up the primary
• 10:49 literature and therein when we read Paul's writings, we can
• 10:54 sense his heart.
• 10:55 Better it is it seems to me that we get in touch with what he had
• 10:58 to say over and against what the traditions of the day might
• 11:01 be and so for that reason I advocate that we do well to walk
• 11:07 in the footsteps of the rabbi from Tarsus to read his word
• 11:12 and to follow his example, 'cause that is truly where we
• 11:16 learn what it means to be Christian.
• 11:34 David: Coming in March, this series is all about Paul.
• 11:37 You're not gonna wanna miss it.
• 11:39 Kirsten: March, 30 years ago, you and I were dating.
• 11:42 And how we got in touch dating back then was either you waited
• 11:46 for a phone call or we wrote letters, but I don't think we
• 11:49 did many letters.
• 11:51 David: I think I remember having a pocket full of quarters
• 11:52 to call her on.
• 11:54 Remember those pay phones?
• 11:55 Kirsten: That's how we got in touch but now there's this
• 11:58 wonderful thing called social media and this ministry,
• 12:02 Our Jewish Roots, has so many outlets.
• 12:04 We're on Twitter, we're on Facebook, we have our own
• 12:07 Youtube channel and I just want you to know that there are
• 12:09 things on our social media sites that you won't see if you're
• 12:13 only watching this program.

• 13:20 Joshua: Wait a minute, last Adam?
• 13:22 That's sounds like a wicked cool movie.
• 13:24 In a world where the first Adam failed, the last Adam prevailed.
• 13:31 Caleb: And that brings us to the title of our lesson,
• 13:33 "The Sloth."
• 13:35 I love that guy.
• 13:36 He's cute, but deadly.
• 13:37 Joshua: And this is our very first sequel.
• 13:39 Super excited.
• 13:41 Caleb: "Healing Part Two."
• 13:47 Joshua: You didn't know there was a part two, but there is.
• 13:51 Caleb: What are you doing?
• 13:53 Joshua: I'm worshiping, duh.
• 13:56 Caleb: I don't think so.
• 13:59 Okay enough, you're making a lot of noise.
• 14:02 Joshua: Making a joyful noise.
• 14:03 I'm so happy to make this noise to Jesus.
• 14:07 Guys, the Bible says that your body is the temple of the Holy
• 14:10 Spirit.
• 14:12 I suggest to you today 500 pounds of fried chicken
• 14:15 from the pulpit is not taking care of your temple.
• 14:18 I know traditionally we talk about this in a spiritual sense,
• 14:21 and that's fantastic.
• 14:22 If your spirit man dies and goes to heaven 'cause you had a heart
• 14:25 attack from eating too many kolaches, that's on you.
• 14:29 We get one--
• 14:31 Caleb: I'm a gym leader.
• 14:33 Joshua look over there.
• 14:38 Joshua: Guys, there's a lot of things out there that you can
• 14:40 be afraid of but did you know that fear itself is actually
• 14:43 a spirit.
• 14:44 It's a pretty gnarly one too.
• 14:46 In 1 John 4 we learned that God is love.
• 14:50 This is what it says in verse 18: "There is no fear in love,
• 14:54 but perfect love casts out fear because fear hath torment.
• 14:58 He that feareth is not made perfect in love."
• 15:00 Caleb: The end of a parable the prodigal son, the good son,
• 15:03 the son, who obeyed the father, he looks at the father lavishing
• 15:07 this love on the lost son and he thinks about the father's
• 15:10 playing favorites.
• 15:12 And we see-- we look at God, sometimes when we think God is
• 15:15 showing more affection to another person.
• 15:16 He gave this person more gifts.
• 15:18 He looks prettier than I do or more handsome.
• 15:21 And you think God has been disproportionate in his love
• 15:25 because we look at things quantitatively.
• 15:27 Joshua: Most people are longing and asking for the understanding
• 15:30 of why I'm here because they have that draw inside of them
• 15:33 to want to be more than they feel they are.
• 15:35 Caleb: That's right and they may think okay I'm not a queen, I am
• 15:38 not a king, I'm not, you know, prime minister.
• 15:41 I'm not placed in this position of power to actually influence
• 15:43 and help people.
• 15:45 How can God use me?
• 15:46 I'm flipping burgers, you know, I'm a gas station attendant.
• 15:49 God can't use those people.
• 15:51 Yes he can.
• 15:52 It doesn't matter what your position is, how you know
• 15:55 important or less important you think you are.
• 15:57 God has you there for a reason.
• 15:58 Joshua: God is for you.
• 16:00 He is not against you.
• 16:01 God has your back. He loves you.
• 16:04 He made you just the way you are.
• 16:05 You are special and unique, irreplaceable.
• 16:08 That's the focus you should take away from what we're saying,
• 16:10 this the focus you should take in life.
• 16:12 Caleb: And when you hear God calling you, make sure you
• 16:14 answer him like Samuel did.
• 16:16 Because many are called but few are chosen.
• 16:19 Joshua: Guys, we love answering your questions.

• 16:49 to be God?
• 16:50 He most certainly did.
• 16:51 You know the deity of the Messiah is one
• 16:53 of the stumbling blocks that many Jewish people in Israel
• 16:56 have a hard time dealing with.
• 16:58 But in reality, the deity of Messiah is taught in
• 17:02 the Old Testament.
• 17:04 Isaiah 9:6.
• 17:07 Sarah: So, when God says to the people of Israel, bitchu
• 17:10 b'Adonai, trust in the Lord, it's not just a trust for now
• 17:15 for a moment, but it is an eternal trust.
• 17:18 It is a continuing trust, bitchu b'Adonai.
• 17:23 Chaim: We know that he never slumbers, nor sleeps, who
• 17:25 watches over Israel, but do we know that when we're in face
• 17:28 of discomfort or danger?
• 17:30 I know that there's that moment, where you have 10 minutes
• 17:32 to phone your family, you can't tell them you're about to go
• 17:34 into a very life threatening situation, but you just say I
• 17:37 love you, I'll see you later, and that maybe the last call you
• 17:41 ever have.
• 17:42 But that faith had to become real for me.
• 17:44 My challenge is now will our faith become real as we step
• 17:49 into God's prophetic plan unfolding right now?
• 17:54 David: Many of you are signed up with us on social media,
• 17:56 Facebook, Twitter, even Youtube.
• 17:59 We share news, but we also like to share a lot of
• 18:02 fun things.
• 18:04 Kirsten: We do, you're watching this program, whether it be
• 18:07 on your television or on your computer, but there's so many
• 18:10 other outlets right now that we need to be reaching out younger
• 18:15 people are really signing up.
• 18:17 TV, they don't have TV.
• 18:18 So we're trying to reach all different ages, the whole
• 18:21 spectrum, but it's not cheap.
• 18:23 Jeffrey Seif: No, and I don't think TV is going
• 18:25 out of business anytime soon but the variety is the spice
• 18:28 of life.
• 18:29 You want to reach people, you need to reach them through all
• 18:31 the venues.
• 18:32 That's why we are so appreciative of the help that
• 18:35 you give us and at years end begging your indulgence, I want
• 18:40 to ask you to carry on and tarry with us, please.
• 18:45 Sometimes at year ends people take a look at at their own
• 18:48 books and decide what they want to do with some excess
• 18:51 and really I ask you, if what we're all about resonates

• 19:00 That's why I went to Bible college and seminary, but I want
• 19:03 to get the story out and that's why I have to rely on you
• 19:06 because all these venues that the Harts talked about, and TV--

• 19:12 It has to be produced, but the next generation is
• 19:16 worth it.
• 19:18 If you want your children and grandchildren to grow
• 19:20 up with a biblical worldview please help us get the biblical
• 19:26 word out and make that decision to do it now, thanks.
• 19:32 David: We're also trying to be creative in the new way that
• 19:35 we're trying to reach young people.
• 19:37 We're trying to do that.
• 19:38 Jeffrey Seif: Absolutely.
• 19:39 Kirsten: We're creative but also we're not gonna forget
• 19:42 our founder.

• 20:11 Well, continuing our 5,000 year saga of the story of the temple.
• 20:15 You know it begins when God summons Abraham to sacrifice
• 20:19 Isaac on Mount Moriah and continues all the way
• 20:23 to the end of the millennial, temple at the end of the kingdom
• 20:25 to come.
• 20:27 And that's how long a period that is.
• 20:32 male: And God said to Solomon, "I have given thee wisdom and I
• 20:36 have also given thee that which thou has not asked, both riches
• 20:41 and honor.
• 20:42 So that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee
• 20:45 all thy days.
• 20:48 And it came to pass in the 480th year, after the children
• 20:52 of Israel come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year
• 20:55 of Solomon's reign over Israel, that he began to build the house
• 20:59 of the Lord."
• 21:03 Gerald: The Bible says days, there's evening and morning,
• 21:07 day one.
• 21:08 There's evening and morning, a second day, a third day.
• 21:10 The Bible uses the word "days."
• 21:12 If it wanted to use other words it could have.
• 21:14 The Hebrew language, at the time was the Bible, had other words
• 21:18 for time, it could've said shannah, year.
• 21:21 [speaking in Hebrew]
• 21:23 Indeterminate periods of time.
• 21:25 male: But I believe that God would choose something not
• 21:29 physical, transcendental.
• 21:32 Created the world.
• 21:40 ♪♪♪
• 21:46 male: In Acts 1:11, the disciples were assembled
• 21:48 with him.
• 21:50 He had just given them the command to be his
• 21:51 representatives in Judea, Samaria, the remote parts
• 21:54 of the Earth.
• 21:55 And he leaves and the angels come to them with two men were
• 21:59 standing in white apparel it says, as they watched him
• 22:02 ascend.
• 22:03 And they said he'll so come in like manner as you've seen
• 22:06 him go into heaven.
• 22:07 He'll come back here to this spot.
• 22:08 So that is promise.
• 22:11 Jeffrey Seif: In Psalm chapter 2, the author asks rhetorically
• 22:14 why do the nations rage?
• 22:18 And aren't we amiss today with raging people
• 22:24 and circumstances?
• 22:25 Against that backdrop mindful of the political quandary we're
• 22:29 in, we wanted to do a series on kings and kingdoms, to look
• 22:34 at leaderships and politics in the biblical world and see
• 22:38 how lessons learned therein might apply to our very own.
• 22:43 We're gonna give it.
• 22:44 You're gonna love it.
• 22:47 Jeffrey Seif: I'm interested in the book of Kings, actually
• 22:51 in the old Hebrew Bible, first, second, third, and fourth Kings
• 22:55 from Saul at the beginning all the way to the ending kings
• 23:02 with the fall of the northern and southern kingdom.
• 23:04 We're gonna explore that in this series, "Kings and Kingdoms."
• 23:09 The word kingdom itself is a conflation of two words,
• 23:12 the king's domain, that is the area where the king rules.
• 23:19 If a king is gonna rule from an area, a king is going
• 23:23 to need a capitol, and no one knew that more than Israel's
• 23:29 essentially first and arguably greatest king.
• 23:33 Well there was one before David and we'll get to that
• 23:35 in a moment, but David himself.
• 23:37 When he came into his own, he really felt that compulsion
• 23:42 to go for a capital city, in a place known today as
• 23:46 Jerusalem.
• 23:48 Jeroboam had a problem with the fake Jews
• 23:52 in the northern kingdom.
• 23:55 What was the problem?
• 23:56 well, they were still predisposed to go to Jerusalem,
• 24:01 which was the center of the religion, and not only
• 24:05 would they be inclined to cross the border to go worship the God
• 24:10 in Jerusalem, but as if that's not bad enough, they're taking
• 24:14 the tithe dollars with them.
• 24:16 That is to say, money is getting out of the house.
• 24:18 Well, those who rely on the dint of their own determination wind
• 24:24 up standing alone in life and why is that?
• 24:26 Because there are principally all about themselves and so they
• 24:30 stand alone as opposed to being interconnected with others.
• 24:35 And so it is with the pursuit and acquisition of power.
• 24:39 In order to get it, you conspire and betray.
• 24:42 Once you get it, you can't trust those in proximity to you
• 24:46 because you know, they're just like you.
• 24:49 Jeffrey Seif: And it certainly is true in the Jewish world In
• 24:52 America, where many people are Jewish in a cultural sense
• 24:55 but not necessarily in a religious sense when it
• 24:57 comes to commitment to biblical text.
• 25:00 One can live out a cultural kind of religion, where God is
• 25:04 at a distance and religion is at a distance.
• 25:06 This is not only a problem in modernity, it was a problem
• 25:09 in antiquity, in Bible days, in fact.
• 25:11 And it's a great story.
• 25:13 Some were on the rise, others on the demise.
• 25:17 We're gonna consider that story in this series,
• 25:20 "Kings and Kingdoms."
• 25:25 male: Things don't always go as planned when we are on location.
• 25:29 During the production of the Joshua series, we had
• 25:31 a beautiful high angle perspective of the ruins
• 25:33 of ancient Jericho, courtesy of a camera mounted on a drone.
• 25:38 As you see on the right side of Jeffrey walking
• 25:40 down the mount, everything is going well until the drone runs
• 25:43 into the only tall tree in the area and get stuck.
• 25:51 Jeffrey Seif: I remember the wreck vividly and it was
