The Jewish roots of Christianity

Highlighting: OFF ON

Myles & Katharine Weiss

Dear Friend,

The world unravels before our very eyes: ISIS absorbs new territory, the Nations continue their bias against Israel, and America spirals in turmoil.

For generations, Bible teachers like Zola have been proclaiming the Good News of salvation in Yeshua while warning anyone within earshot about approaching “perilous times” (2 Timothy 3:1). Katharine and I are part of the current generation of ambassadors for Yeshua. Katharine was a new Believer when she told me about Yeshua in 1984, and I accepted the truth about my Messiah at age 33.

In His mercy, God allowed both of us to observe miracles of personal transformation through the ensuing years. As a pastor and faith-based psychotherapist, I have seen Yeshua restore and strengthen numerous marriages. Katharine and I currently serve two congregations where Jewish folks can meet Yeshua, and gentiles learn the roots of their Christian faith. Thanks to Zola Levitt Ministries, she and I visit Israel at least twice each year. (I urge you to join us this coming year on a life-changing pilgrimage.)

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu
and Dr. Henry Kissinger

Zola Levitt Presents, the weekly TV program that Zola and producer Ken Berg created 35 years ago, remains fresh and of superior quality. Sorry if that sounds selfcongratulatory, but ZLP is simply exceptional television. We Believers must keep Yeshua’s message on the airwaves and work toward expanding His Kingdom as the Day of Messiah approaches. This ministry’s supporters need to keep the Levitt Letter circulating to proclaim Israel’s significance in the world and its central role in Yahweh’s plan. Thank you for your gifts of funds that allow this ministry to reflect Yeshua’s light in this dark world.

I am blessed and yet grieved by the condition of today’s world. Dr. Henry Kissinger recently wrote in The Wall Street Journal,

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Dr. Henry Kissinger

“The concept of order that has underpinned the modern era is in crisis.” During Kissinger’s long service as national security advisor and secretary of state under presidents Nixon and Ford, he has observed many phases of world conflict and resolution. His recent statement refers to the inability of American decency—its goodwill, democracy, and free markets—to prevail over the fanatic, warmongering elements in the world today.

Do you remember when George W. Bush thought that Western-style democracy was all the Middle East needed to transform the region into a similar engine of creative innovation with its attendant wealth production? Only Israel can do that because of its Bible-based democracy and commitment to peaceful government transitions.

Did President Bush misread the depth of hatred that the Koran’s ideology teaches the latest generation of jihadist Moslems? Several years ago, in an article entitled “Waiting for Martin,” I called for a Martin Luther or a Martin Luther King, Jr. to arise within Islam to reform its ways. As a desperate tongue-in-cheek closing, I added that I would even welcome a Martin Short (the comedian) who might impart a sense of humor to the morose Moslem minions.

I now believe we are witnessing the unfortunate “revival” of Islam in the form of horrifying, murderous hordes expanding across the planet. This jihadist juggernaut represents a return to orthodoxy, an awakening from the slumber that led to the defeat of the Ottoman Turks. Strict followers of Islam believe that sharia (Islamic law) is the ideal system for all societies. We “infidels” can be allowed to live only if we convert to Islam. In some places, we People of the Book may be able to retain our supposed infidel ways if we become dhimmis, second-class citizens. However, the current wave of beheadings and slaughter seems to indicate that this new incarnation of Islamism may not allow our survival at all.

Fellow biblical commentators Avi Lipkin and Walid Shoebat have been warning for many years about the Islamic behaviors that are surfacing in today’s news. From an Orthodox Jewish point of view, Avi has pled for Christian revival to touch Islam. For decades, he has proclaimed to Church people, “You bring them the Lord, or they will bring you the sword.” Katharine’s and my congregations in northern California have hosted Avi Lipkin several times, and he has appeared on Zola Levitt Presents sharing his prescient and predictive understanding of Islam’s goals.

His Egyptian Jewish wife, Rachel, interprets Arabic-language media for the Israeli government. Katharine interviewed her on ZLP. Please pray for Rachel as she listens almost 24/7 to the hate-filled propaganda against Israel, America, and the West in general. The original Arabic versions she listens to differ dramatically from the sanitized communiques that Islamic leaders release in English to the Western media: You and I do not hear in English what is said in Arabic.

When he was a young man, Walid Shoebat served as a PLO terrorist under Yasser Arafat, the evil Egyptian who contrived the mythical Palestinian state and people. Before and after Israel was dubbed Palestine as an insult by the Roman emperor Hadrian in 135 A.D., non-Jews and even people from the Arabian Peninsula lived in the region. And as you probably recall hearing, the Moslems who lived there were displaced from their homes due to the hatred of their peers for the Jewish people. When Israel was restored as a nation by the UN and accepted into the family of nations in 1948, five of the surrounding Moslem nations attacked the fledgling Jewish state. Those neighboring countries ordered their fellow Moslems to withdraw from the Holy Land, promising that after Israel’s sure defeat and humiliation, they could return to their homes and take those of the Jews as well.

Oops, saith the Lord! God had other plans, of course, and He wanted to put His Jewish people on display as a compassionate, scientifically gifted, medically and technologically advanced culture of life. He has done that. Many Arabs and Moslems have been able to participate in and prosper from Israel’s miraculous restoration. It is notable that no one speaks about the approximately 800,000 to one million Jews who were forced out of their homes in Islamic countries with just the clothes on their backs at the same time that Moslems opted to leave Israel.

Walid has become a brilliant Christian advocate for Israel and the Jewish people. He has repeatedly been Zola’s and our guest on Zola Levitt Presents. In 2005, he ministered alongside David and Karen Davis from Mt. Carmel at our local congregation’s “One New Man” conference.

Walid’s dire warnings prepared some of us students of the Bible for today’s unfolding world events. But with Americans squeezing God out of their lives, our nation needs a spiritual awakening. We need a new Jesus Movement, like the one that gave rise to many of today’s Messianic leaders.

I was recently privileged to teach about the Lord’s Fall Feasts to 70 young people who were in their 31st day of a 40-day fast. Interceding for Americans to return to God and for young people to have a Holy Spirit-encounter with Jesus, we prayed for spiritual rain. The next day, parched and drought-plagued northern California received a thundershower! A sign? A coincidence? You decide how to view it, but I KNOW that the U.S. needs a spiritual awakening. This ministry and our stalwart supporters will soldier on, reaching for revival through all possible means!

Last month, Zola Levitt Presents aired parts 1–4 of the brand new, eight-part television series in which Katharine and I explore the historical and spiritual significance of each modern gate in the wall surrounding the Old City of Jerusalem. November’s TV programs will examine the remaining four historic portals into the Old City and feature the music of Marty Goetz.

Jerusalem: Ancient Gates / Future Glory

The Damascus Gate
Pointing toward Syria’s capital, the busy Damascus Gate is a window to the North and to the Moslem world. Guests include archaeologist Shimon Gibson (shown right) and Jan Willem van der Hoeven, director of the International Christian Zionist Center (far right).
Herod’s Gate
Herod’s Gate dates back to the time of Herod the Great. This historical site of many attacks represents today’s ongoing spiritual battles. Guests include tour guide Tamar Hayardeni and our friend Rosemary Schindler, a lover of Israel and the Jewish people.
Lions Gate
Also known as “St. Stephen’s Gate,” it was Lions Gate through which the Israeli army entered to re-take possession of the Old City in 1967. Let us pray for the Lion of Judah, Yeshua HaMashiach, to return soon as the King of Glory. Guests include Gate expert Tamar Hayardeni (right), and David Dolan with Colonel Shimon Cahaner.
The Eastern Gate
The Eastern, or Golden, Gate has been closed since Byzantine times in a Moslem attempt to thwart the Jewish Messiah’s Second Coming. Nevertheless, this gate will open again for the King of King’s return. Guests include archaeologist Shimon Gibson and Tommy Waller of HaYovel.

Katharine and I thank you for standing with us as we head toward the finish line— in Jerusalem, where Yeshua will touch down when He returns as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah. As always, we exhort you to please Sha’alu shalom Yerushalayim! — “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!” (Psalm 122:6).

Your brother and messenger,
Myles Myles

P.S. Many Church leaders have called for a revival. Walid Shoebat told me last year that he believes America will be spared judgment for the sake of the Believing remnant. I pray that he is correct; I wish I had his confidence. As I survey America’s cultural drift from biblical virtues, our citizens’ selfishness in dealing with others, and our national prurience, I wonder, “Has judgment already begun?”

Bad Moon Rising

“Bad Moon Rising” video

Dr. Jeffrey Seif remembers yesterday’s Holocaust and considers anti-Semitism’s rise in modern-day Europe. Though dressed this time in Islamic garb and not in Nazi uniforms, anti-Semitism is making fresh headway in the world, its current surge fueled by the radical Islamic fringe as it turns out the lights of once-Christian Europe.

Guns & Moses

“Guns & Moses” book

Jeff draws on his experience as both a police officer and theologian to walk readers through the Law of Moses, the biblical foundation of our Judeo-Christian culture. He describes God’s specific instructions on how to use power to secure justice for all and protection for the weak.

Glory! — The Future of the Believers

“Glory! — The Future of the Believers” study CD

Prophecy studies often deal with the Tribulation, the antiChrist, Armageddon, and other cataclysms to befall an unbelieving world. This delightful study deals with the happy events prophesied for Believers: the Rapture, the Marriage Supper, the Kingdom, etc. The future for those who believe.
