- 00:51 Caleb Colson: Why did you bring us here to an old church,
- 00:53 Pastor Mike?
- 00:55 The church has no place in the series, you know this.
- 00:56 Joshua Colson: Does this church have a good men's program?
- 00:58 'Cause I like to learn about power tools in church.
- 01:01 Mike Ferland: No guys, I brought you here today because this
- 01:03 church is the perfect example of the modern church.
- 01:07 Caleb: This is clearly not a modern church--
- 01:09 Joshua C.: Super modern, 1850s chic.
- 01:12 Mike: Well, this church, like churches they were built
- 01:14 for a purpose, but they've forgotten what that purpose is.
- 01:19 Israel Hanna: As a result, a lot of these new churches are ending
- 01:22 up to be empty churches, you know, just for that reason.
- 01:25 They're not meeting the needs of other people, they're not
- 01:28 telling them about Jesus.
- 01:30 Joshua C.: I can fix this right now.
- 01:31 Hey everybody, we're open on Sunday.
- 01:34 Mike: There's nobody here.
- 01:36 Caleb: You know, Mike, the reason that the modern church is
- 01:39 in such a state of disrepair, is because instead of following
- 01:43 Yeshua's command to go out into all the world, they tried to
- 01:46 bring the world into them.
- 01:48 And that never jives with the Holy Spirit, especially
- 01:51 becoming worldly.
- 01:52 Mike: Exactly, it doesn't, and that's the unfortunate thing.
- 01:56 I've pastored here in New England for 14 years.
- 01:59 And like this building, the churches today in New England,
- 02:04 throughout the country, are really struggling with that
- 02:07 purpose of going into all of the world.
- 02:11 Some of 'em are even becoming worldly.
- 02:15 And it's about becoming a famous pastor, and you know, how many
- 02:20 likes and follows you're getting, when it's really--
- 02:22 should be about following Jesus.
- 02:25 And he said to go into all the world, make disciples, right?
- 02:28 And what?
- 02:29 Teach them all of the things that I've commanded you.
- 02:33 Too many churches today, it's about the building, the history
- 02:37 of the building.
- 02:38 Like this church here, it has been around for a couple hundred
- 02:41 years, but it's not in use anymore.
- 02:44 It's a museum, you know.
- 02:45 It breaks my heart, in my community so many people are
- 02:49 hurting, so many people with drugs, marriage is ending, just
- 02:54 lives in distress.
- 02:57 Suicides are so high here.
- 03:00 Joshua C.: The saddest thing of all is, you'll--a lot of people
- 03:02 will see a building like this, this traditional shape of
- 03:05 church, and the first thing they feel is hurt because that focus
- 03:08 being on the building and the institution not on the person
- 03:11 has brought so much pain to different people because we have
- 03:15 said it's not about Jesus reaching you, it's about you
- 03:18 falling into line with what we want you to do.
- 03:20 The building itself was never the purpose.
- 03:23 It's not the church. We're the church.
- 03:25 Mike: Guys, I know a thing.
- 03:26 I said I pastored here for 14 years.
- 03:28 I know about church hurt.
- 03:31 Because a couple of years ago, I just got burnt out and that was
- 03:36 not--I didn't get that love of fellow believers.
- 03:41 I got that judgment, I got that, "Oh, you're walking away, how
- 03:44 could you?"
- 03:45 But I reached burnout because of frustration, because
- 03:49 of immobility.
- 03:50 Some of it on my part, you know, to adapt, but when you are
- 03:55 constantly coming up against, you know, the resistance to go
- 03:59 into all the world when it's in your heart.
- 04:02 Joshua C.: And I know specifically in your situation,
- 04:05 the pastor became the sounding board for their religion and
- 04:09 then the retaliation.
- 04:11 And then everything that happened in your situation was
- 04:13 because you wanted to do what God told you to do, and they
- 04:16 wanted to do what man thought they should do, and they had
- 04:18 an impasse.
- 04:19 Israel: So Mike, you got--you reached your frustration by the
- 04:22 fact you teach the truth.
- 04:24 Not everybody wants to hear the truth.
- 04:27 They like to have their ears tickled.
- 04:29 So as a result, I was a pastor at one time and I figured,
- 04:33 "Where am I gonna pastor?"
- 04:35 You know, go to these churches and you know, most of 'em
- 04:37 wouldn't even accept me.
- 04:39 So I went to the jail.
- 04:40 Now, I would rather preach actually in jail, to tell you
- 04:43 the truth, because there's people there who are willing to
- 04:45 listen, you know.
- 04:47 And I just loved it.
- 04:48 So I would get the guys in the jail, or the Lord would, and we
- 04:51 filled up the church.
- 04:53 And that's the problem, nobody goes out like you're
- 04:56 talking--like we're talking about.
- 04:58 Jesus and his disciples set the example.
- 05:00 They went out to the villages and the towns and the people
- 05:04 wherever they could find 'em.
- 05:06 And after a while, the people started to find them.
- 05:09 Joshua C.: Yeah, they started a search to dig them out.
- 05:11 Caleb: I think that's very cool because last week we learned
- 05:14 about how to be empowered with the Holy Spirit so then Yeshua
- 05:18 could send us out.
- 05:19 So this week, guys, we're gonna learn to become axmen.

- 18:51 be children tossed to and fro and carried about with every
- 18:54 wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, and the cunning
- 18:57 craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the
- 19:00 truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him, who is the
- 19:04 head--Christ--from whom the whole body joined and knit
- 19:07 together by what every joint supplies, according to the
- 19:11 effectiveness working by which every part does its share.
- 19:15 It causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love."
- 19:19 Joshua C.: Gentlemen, I'm so glad that you were so willing to
- 19:20 wake up this morning as usual at 3:37 a.m.
- 19:23 just to spend some quality time together with nothing but men.
- 19:26 I wanted to talk about something very important today.
- 19:28 I think it's overlooked, especially in the body of
- 19:30 Christ, and that is that we are the church.
- 19:33 I was told in my translation of the Bible that I read that we
- 19:36 are actually a mobile church, right?
- 19:38 Because anywhere I go I have Yeshua on the inside of me, I
- 19:41 bring him with me and henceforth, I can have church
- 19:43 anywhere, right?
- 19:45 So today I thought what better than to reach anybody that may
- 19:49 be lost in that wilderness on the border of Canada.
- 19:52 And you know what?
- 19:54 I couldn't live with myself if they died and go to hell because
- 19:56 nobody told 'em so I've rented us these extreme ATVs to go out
- 20:00 and find the gospel with these people.
- 20:02 Don't laugh, the Holy Spirit has something for us today, I
- 20:05 believe it.
- 20:07 Joshua C.: Oh, it's so ugly out here.
- 20:10 I almost wanna close my eyes it's just disgusting.
- 20:13 I don't see any concrete.
- 20:15 I don't smell any smog.
- 20:16 That's perfect.
- 20:18 It's absolutely perfect.
- 20:21 You know, we have this trail right here which is pretty handy
- 20:23 because, obviously, when we have a trail we know we're
- 20:26 designated--we can go here and if, you know, we can start to
- 20:29 get lost or we feed somebody to a moose and we wanna run away,
- 20:34 we know how to get back faster.
- 20:35 But sometimes you don't have a trail.
- 20:37 I've been on some of these trails with Mike.
- 20:39 We get out there, there's no internet signal, but it's easy
- 20:43 to get lost is the point.
- 20:45 You know, and I think sometimes, especially with men in life, we
- 20:48 can get off the trail, not follow the directions of God's
- 20:53 Word, and kinda get lost.
- 20:55 And instead of stopping and asking for help, we kind of
- 20:58 barrel on down the road.
- 21:00 And whether that's for our own pride, whether it's because
- 21:04 we're afraid of the consequences of what if you went too far down
- 21:07 the road, we wake up one day, we don't know where we're at, we
- 21:11 don't know who we are, and we definitely don't know how to
- 21:13 get back.
- 21:15 And it's super simple and it doesn't take wrong intention,
- 21:17 you know.
- 21:19 I was thinking the other day--I lived in Zambia many years ago
- 21:23 in an orphanage and worked with the kids during the week and
- 21:27 every once in a while we'd get a break on the weekend to go kind
- 21:29 of do something we wanted.
- 21:30 And Zambia was decently close to Victoria Falls, which is one of
- 21:35 the seven natural wonders of the world.
- 21:36 It's a waterfall that's so big it goes across Zambia and
- 21:39 Zimbabwe, it's beautiful.
- 21:41 And so, there was a group of us that wanted to go see the falls,
- 21:44 but we get there with these wooden canoes--so we have a
- 21:47 guide and I'm in a boat with a friend of mine.
- 21:51 And the guide says very specifically, he said, "Make
- 21:53 sure that you keep your eyes on my lead canoe 'cause we're gonna
- 21:57 go down this river, and the river has a current, and there's
- 21:59 a lot of things along the way that can harm you."
- 22:02 You know, you can crash, you can flip, you can have all these
- 22:05 other issues, but one of the big ones was that the number one
- 22:08 killer of man in Africa at the time was the hippopotamus.
- 22:11 And I--you laugh at 'em, but their jaws were so strong that
- 22:14 if they got you, they could cut you in half with one bite.
- 22:16 And they're amazing swimmers, okay?
- 22:20 So they said there's hippo nests all over the place and you don't
- 22:21 know how to see it, but I know how to see it.
- 22:24 So you stay in line and you pay attention, right?
- 22:27 Now, as any good man does along this way, I say to my friend,
- 22:31 "Hey, I wanna get some video footage.
- 22:35 I'm not gonna pay attention for a second.
- 22:36 I want you to pay attention while I'm getting this
- 22:39 footage," right?
- 22:40 So I'm in my camera and I'm looking around, getting these
- 22:41 epic shots of the Zambezi River.
- 22:43 And I'm just relying on the fact that my friend's gonna, you
- 22:45 know, do this, right?
- 22:46 And off in the distance I see, like, this kind of like flailing
- 22:50 figure, and I zoom in on my lens and it's my guide and he's
- 22:52 standing in this canoe and he's flailing his arms like this.
- 22:55 And he's yelling something I can't quite make out and I pay
- 22:58 attention, he goes, "Ippo!
- 23:00 Ippo!"
- 23:01 And I'm like, "Hippo? Where?"
- 23:03 And I take my eye out of the--out of this false
- 23:06 perspective I was looking through, right?
- 23:07 I was zoomed in like 50 times.
- 23:09 And so, when I took my eye out of that false perspective and
- 23:11 I looked, my friend was doing the same thing I was doing,
- 23:16 taking pictures and not paying attention.
- 23:18 And instead of us paddling towards this area, we split off
- 23:21 into this V shape on the river and had gone straight into a
- 23:24 hippo nest.
- 23:26 So literally the one thing you weren't supposed to do.
- 23:28 And I look, and all these mama hippos on either
- 23:30 side are like, bloop!
- 23:31 And submerged out of the water and I'm like, "Oh!"
- 23:34 So I grabbed the oar and I'm like...
- 23:37 Like, literally the canoe is tilting up like this because I
- 23:40 don't know.
- 23:41 And you see them coming towards us, and eventually we paddled
- 23:43 out, and got over there, and the guide's like yelling at me and
- 23:45 all this kinda stuff.
- 23:47 Our perspective in life is so shortsighted that we're making
- 23:51 all of these decisions and all these choices based off this
- 23:53 right here.
- 23:55 And yet God is on this position looking at the entire river, and
- 23:58 the falls, and everything from above, and seeing it all
- 24:01 at once, and all the power, and all the might,
- 24:03 and all the problems.
- 24:05 And he's gonna go this way, "All right, now go this way.
- 24:08 Now go this way, bud."
- 24:09 And he's given us his Word as a guide.
- 24:12 His Word guides us--maybe not to say on Tuesday you're gonna go
- 24:15 down the falls wrong, but he says, "Look, here's a character
- 24:18 that you can follow.
- 24:20 Here is my Word that says these are things you should and
- 24:22 shouldn't do.
- 24:24 Here's how to be a man that is a leader and when you follow these
- 24:27 precepts, I will step in with the Holy Spirit and give you the
- 24:30 rest of what you need on a daily basis because I love you."
- 24:33 But when we don't do that and we put that aside, next thing you
- 24:36 know, we're in the devil's hippo nest.
- 24:38 But the beauty is no matter how far you veer off course, the
- 24:42 second you turn and say, "Abba, Father," he's right there ready
- 24:48 to whip you back into shape and get you on that road.
- 24:52 Joshua C.: Hebrews 10:24 through 25, "And let us consider one
- 24:55 another to provoke unto love and good works; not forsaking the
- 24:58 assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some
- 25:01 is, but exhorting one another; and so much the more as ye see
- 25:06 the day approaching."
- 25:08 Joshua C.: Sometimes it feels like this path takes longer and
- 25:11 sometimes it's kind of like navigating through a pair of
- 25:13 skinny jeans to get here.
- 25:15 But look at that view.
- 25:17 I mean, look at it.
- 25:18 The wide path always leads to Walmart and you don't want that.
- 25:21 It's just destruction.
- 25:22 But this right here, this is worth committing to the rules,
- 25:26 to the details, like following the plan.
- 25:28 I love it.
- 25:30 Caleb: But the--it's beautiful right now, guys, but this is
- 25:32 the truth.
- 25:33 Yeshua promised you will have persecution.
- 25:35 He promised that we would have hard times.
- 25:38 So, though I'm really grateful to Josh for taking this--to this
- 25:42 amazing view, when you go out and you
- 25:44 follow Yeshua, sometimes you go out into the world.
- 25:47 He went into the worst places, guys.
- 25:49 He went with the publicans, the sinners, the tax collectors,
- 25:52 the prostitutes.
- 25:53 It's not always beautiful.
- 25:55 Sometimes it's ugly.
- 25:57 And you see the people that are really scarred and affected by
- 26:02 sin of the world, by Satan, and they're destitute and
- 26:05 they're hurting.
- 26:06 And it takes a lot to reach those hardened individuals, but
- 26:10 we have one key to reach the lost, and that's love.
- 26:14 And that's what this message is about, the mobile church.
- 26:18 We take the presence of God with us wherever we go so that they
- 26:21 can feel the anointing and presence of God and they're
- 26:24 gonna want what we have to climb out of that pit.
- 26:27 Joshua C.: Don't be caught off guard that sinners are sinning.
- 26:30 Guess what?
- 26:31 That's what they do and they're wicked good at it.
- 26:33 That's just the point.
- 26:35 Now, be wicked good at loving them because you're a believer
- 26:37 and you have Jesus on the inside of you.
- 26:39 If you can't be better at having love inside of you than they can
- 26:42 at having sin inside of them, there's a problem in
- 26:44 that equation.
- 26:45 Mike: Yeah, God calls us to be different, right?
- 26:47 Peculiar, set apart and different from the world.
- 26:50 Well, their whole experience in life has just been being judged
- 26:53 by everybody that comes along.
- 26:56 So we come in with love and they're more likely to
- 27:00 receive it.
- 27:01 Israel: You know, Josh, I'd like to remind you that on these
- 27:03 trails, you know, that we don't often know where we're going.
- 27:07 And on--and my journey as an evangelist, I like to look
- 27:11 forward to divine appointments, you know, they're appointments
- 27:14 that are arranged by God himself.
- 27:16 So walking through the woods not knowing where we're at, we come
- 27:18 out to this beautiful scene though, it's just beautiful.
- 27:21 We did not know this was here, but God brought us to
- 27:24 this place.
- 27:26 Now, not every journey ends up in a place like this.
- 27:29 Sometimes you may come upon an accident, for example, where
- 27:31 there's total chaos, or people are wounded, or in different
- 27:35 situations and--but you're there at that moment in time for
- 27:39 a reason.
- 27:40 And that is to speak the Word of God and to speak life to all
- 27:43 those around you, even in that dark place as well as the divine
- 27:46 appointment areas.
- 27:47 Does that make any sense?
- 27:49 Joshua A.: Yeah, makes a lot of sense.
- 27:51 Joshua C.: Well, let's see if we can get out of the forest
- 27:53 before any banjo start playing.
- 27:54 Israel: We gotta have some more divine appointments.
- 27:56 Joshua C.: Yeah, 'cause that other kind
- 27:57 isn't divine, trust me.
- 27:59 Israel: No, we don't wanna do that.
- 28:00 Joshua C.: Did you know the "Bearded Bible Brothers" is an
- 28:02 outreach of the Zola Levitt Ministries?
