- 00:05 And the Lord spoke unto Moses saying...
- 00:08 These are the feasts of the Lord,
- 00:10 Holy Convocations which you
- 00:12 shall proclaim in their seasons.
- 00:15 In the 14th day of the 1st month is the Lord's Passover.
- 00:27 Shalom, welcome to our program, I'm Myles Weiss
- 00:29 And I'm Katharine Weiss
- 00:30 and we have a program today about Passover.
- 00:32 You know it says in Leviticus 23:1-2
- 00:36 it talks about how God told Moses to
- 00:39 speak to the children of Israel and to tell them
- 00:42 about a feast that he was wanting them to keep,
- 00:45 keep to him.
- 00:47 When I think about Feasts Myles
- 00:49 people might think about eating
- 00:50 but that's not what it says in Strong's.
- 00:52 In Strong's it talks about a " moed ", an "appointed time"
- 00:56 time that God has ordained on his calendar.
- 01:00 And it talks about also that these are his Feasts
- 01:02 not just the Jewish people's Feasts
- 01:04 but these are his Feasts that
- 01:06 he will do things on these dates
- 01:08 and it does not change.
- 01:10 Yes, it's fascinating isn't it
- 01:11 that people assume that they are
- 01:13 the feasts of the Jewish people
- 01:15 but he says repeatedly these are my Feasts.
- 01:16 In fact, he declares who he is early on in this
- 01:19 story of putting the Feasts together
- 01:23 he says,
- 01:23 (Speaking Hebrew)
- 01:31 What a picture of bringing the Jewish people up out of Egypt.
- 01:34 But it speaks to us as well about
- 01:36 bringing us out of the slavery to sin.
- 01:39 What a blessing that God is going to use the Feasts,
- 01:41 especially Passover to speak about redemption
- 01:44 and the fact the death could pass over us.
- 01:47 Amen, let's go hear more from Myles in Israel.
- 01:53 Passover has been called the Crown Jewel of the Feasts.
- 01:56 It's the first of the Feasts.
- 01:58 And it comes in the Spring.
- 01:59 In fact, Leviticus 23
- 02:01 we're mandated on the first month and
- 02:03 the 14th day to keep the Feast of Passover, Why?
- 02:08 Because the most important thing that has happened
- 02:11 in the history of man
- 02:12 has been the shed blood of the Lamb.
- 02:14 And Passover is the picture,
- 02:16 the story of redemption that
- 02:18 comes due to the shed blood of Yeshua HaMashiach .
- 02:22 This is how God says it
- 02:23 in John 1:29 we see the
- 02:25 cousin John the Immerser.
- 02:28 It turns out he wasn't a baptist,
- 02:30 He was an Immerser
- 02:31 doing something that Jewish people have done
- 02:33 for thousands of years.
- 02:35 And when he saw Yeshua coming
- 02:37 to the Jordan he said,
- 02:39 (Speaking Hebrew)
- 02:47 It's an offer to humanity
- 02:50 from God pictured in the
- 02:52 Gospel according to Moses
- 02:54 because really the story
- 02:55 of Israel is a story of a love affair between
- 02:59 God the Creator of the heavens and the earth
- 03:01 and the Israeli people, the Jewish people
- 03:03 and by choice Gentiles
- 03:06 that will knit yourselves to the people of Israel
- 03:10 and to the story of Messiah.
- 03:13 I mean really there are 3 aspects to every Feast.
- 03:15 There's a Historical aspect,
- 03:17 it speaks about the story of Israel
- 03:20 the history of God's interaction with Israel.
- 03:23 There's a prophetic picture in each of the Feasts.
- 03:26 They each have a picture of Messiah.
- 03:29 They look towards the finished work of Mashiach .
- 03:32 And there's a personal meaning.
- 03:34 If you watch, if you listen
- 03:36 and if you participate in the Feasts
- 03:38 I believe God will speak to you about your own life,
- 03:41 where you are in your journey on this very brief
- 03:43 time we have on earth and what it may mean.
- 03:46 So there's a personal aspect
- 03:47 every time we keep the Feasts,
- 03:49 every time we teach about the Feasts
- 03:50 there's something in it for you.
- 03:53 Now, this love story began in the Garden of Eden.
- 03:56 You could say all of humanity was bitten by a snake in Genesis 3:15.
- 04:01 And because of that the
- 04:02 Scripture tells us that
- 04:04 the Promised Son, the One to come
- 04:06 the Mashiach that would come
- 04:08 would crush the head of the Snake
- 04:11 and the Snake, the Serpent, the Devil,
- 04:13 Satan the Adversary
- 04:15 would bruise the heel of the One to come.
- 04:18 This is very interesting because
- 04:19 there's another meaning to
- 04:21 the word " Pesach "
- 04:22 which is Hebrew for "Passover"
- 04:24 And the word means "to limp", " pesach ".
- 04:26 You see it in the story of Mephibosheth before David.
- 04:29 We see it in the story of Eliyahu asking
- 04:32 how long will you halt between two opinions?
- 04:33 Same Hebrew word "to limp".
- 04:35 There's something about the coming of Messiah
- 04:38 that had to do with a bruise, a wound,
- 04:41 a difficulty, a sacrifice that
- 04:43 included something other than being a reigning king.
- 04:46 So he came as the Lamb of God
- 04:49 The picture in the Passover is this
- 04:52 amazing story coming out of Egypt,
- 04:53 the deliverance from Egypt and the
- 04:56 blood of the Lamb needing to be put
- 04:59 on the doorposts of each house,
- 05:01 the Israelites coming inside that house
- 05:03 and the Angel of Death passing over
- 05:06 so the people inside would be spared.
- 05:08 It's a picture for us of what could happen when we allow
- 05:11 the blood of the Lamb to be placed on our hearts.
- 05:14 Why? Why blood?
- 05:16 What a dramatic way of doing this.
- 05:19 Well the fact is that Leviticus 17:11 tells us,
- 05:28 But none of us is worthy for that.
- 05:29 There's no way that the blood of a normal lamb,
- 05:32 no matter how perfect the lamb may be,
- 05:34 cannot provide that complete redemption
- 05:38 that came through Yeshua HaMashicah because he was,
- 05:41 is 100 percent divine and 100 percent man.
- 05:45 It's a mystery.
- 05:46 I'm grateful that God's greater than my ability
- 05:49 to completely understand him
- 05:52 causing me to need to walk by faith.
- 05:54 Passover has always been resisted throughout history
- 05:57 sadly the history of the Christian Church
- 05:59 has been one of resisting Passover,
- 06:01 in fact, outlawing it.
- 06:03 There was throughout history...
- 06:14 All forbade the young believing community from
- 06:17 participating in the Jewish Feasts,
- 06:20 the Feasts of the LORD.
- 06:21 Why?
- 06:22 Because they point to the blood.
- 06:24 They point to the Lamb.
- 06:26 And they point to the incredible history of
- 06:29 God's love affair with the Jewish people
- 06:31 that continues even this day
- 06:33 by restoring us to this land
- 06:35 and beginning this work of restoration that will
- 06:38 lead to the promise that we see
- 06:40 in Romans chapters 9 through 11
- 06:42 where the Apostle Paul, Rav Shaul says
- 06:45 all Israel will be saved.

- 07:26 You may wonder how does something
- 07:28 as lavish as this come into being.
- 07:30 There's a lot of preparation that goes into preparing this Passover meal
- 07:35 It's called a " Seder " which means "Order".
- 07:37 And sometimes the disorderliness
- 07:39 that takes place getting it ready is humorous because
- 07:42 it really does take some preparation.
- 07:44 In fact, the beginning of this season is right after Purim
- 07:48 the beginning of the Spring cleaning.
- 07:51 I believe that may be where traditional
- 07:53 western spring cleaning comes from
- 07:54 is from the preparation of the home for a Passover Seder .
- 07:59 The Seder is a meal, it's a very lavish meal.
- 08:02 It has symbolic foods that are part of it.
- 08:05 And it really begins with the
- 08:08 cleaning out of leaven from the home,
- 08:10 leaven that is a type of sin,
- 08:12 a picture of sin in the Scriptures
- 08:15 So we see in Exodus 12:15
- 08:24 Actually it's a picture of the consecration of ourselves,
- 08:27 the separation of ourselves
- 08:29 to the ways of God and to the things of God.
- 08:32 There's a picture that continues not only from historically
- 08:35 in the Passover of the Israeli people
- 08:38 but also into the New Testament
- 08:40 when Yeshua himself kept the Passover.
- 08:43 The word that's used is called " bedikat khameytz "
- 08:46 "to take the leaven out",
- 08:48 to take out the leaven products.
- 08:50 And I remember growing up in the old country, New York City
- 08:54 where we would take all the leaven in the house
- 08:56 and give it to our Gentile friends and neighbors
- 08:58 so that everybody looked forward to Passover.
- 09:00 We had this season of just a unique part of our lives.
- 09:04 And our neighbors and friends got all
- 09:06 the cookies and cakes that were in the home.
- 09:09 In this cleansing of the home of all the leaven
- 09:13 it's really a picture of the cleansing of our hearts
- 09:16 that God is wanting to do,
- 09:17 really changing us and dealing with what's called " yetzer hara "
- 09:21 "the evil tendency that is within us".
- 09:24 There's some wonderful traditions that secretly
- 09:27 show the work of Yeshua .
- 09:29 For example, in my family when we would gather
- 09:32 the " khameytz ", the "leaven", from the home
- 09:34 for the very last moment we would
- 09:36 take a feather and a wooden spoon
- 09:40 and my Dad or Mom would take the feather
- 09:43 and scoop up a few symbolic crumbs of leaven,
- 09:46 put them on the spoon and then we would
- 09:48 take them out to the barbeque and burn them there.
- 09:51 Well, listen - a feather, a picture of the dove,
- 09:56 the Holy Spirit, " Ruach HaKodesh "
- 09:58 coming and taking the sin and putting it on a wooden spoon
- 10:04 picturing perhaps a wooden cross
- 10:06 and the full sacrifice burning until nothing was left
- 10:10 just as Yeshua made a full sacrifice for us
- 10:13 when he went to the cross as our Passover Lamb.
- 10:17 I think about this season between Purim and Passover.
- 10:21 It's very similar in a way to the Days of Awe between
- 10:24 Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur where that introspection,
- 10:27 that preparation, that turning to God takes place.
- 10:31 The idea being here that we can't save ourselves.
- 10:35 We cannot make ourselves sanctified.
- 10:38 There's no amount of good deeds or right actions
- 10:40 I can do that will change my nature.
- 10:43 But when I believe into the finished work of Yeshua
- 10:47 something begins to happen in my heart and life.
- 10:49 I know for myself it was like night and day.
- 10:52 Does that mean that I walk without sin, absolutely not.
- 10:54 I am a flawed person in process just as you are.
- 10:59 But something magnificent happens
- 11:01 when we say yes to Yeshua .
- 11:03 And it's a very Jewish thing to do.
- 11:06 We see it pictured in Isaiah 53
- 11:09 a very controversial passage of Scripture.
- 11:12 And we also see that we're to tell this story of the
- 11:16 historical Passover to our children.
- 11:18 In fact, Exodus 13:8 says,
- 11:22 That's why we use the " Haggadah ",
- 11:24 we use "The Telling",
- 11:26 a book, that is part of this story.
- 11:29 We tell the story from generation to generation
- 11:31 so that never will anyone forget what God did for us.
- 11:35 In fact, we're supposed to tell it as if we were there in Egypt.
- 11:39 We tell it from the point of view of
- 11:41 "I was there and God did this for me"
- 11:44 And we do that from generation to generation.
- 11:47 Traditionally you would say at the end of the Seder ,
- 11:49 " Lashanah Hab'ah bi Yerushalayim "
- 11:52 "Next Year in Jerusalem"
- 11:54 But thanks be to God from 1948 forward
- 11:57 since the rebirth of the state of Israel
- 11:59 many of our Jewish brothers and sisters can say
- 12:03 we are here now, we're not looking forward to that.
- 12:06 Now Yeshua kept Passover.
- 12:08 Not only was he the Passover, he kept Passover
- 12:11 as an observant Jewish person
- 12:14 John 2:13 says,
- 12:21 And in those days preceding the Passover
- 12:24 and then the crucifixion
- 12:26 he was inspected by all of Israel,
- 12:28 just as the Passover Lamb
- 12:30 was inspected by the House of Israel back in the desert.
- 12:32 And year after year, decade after decade Yeshua was inspected.
- 12:36 And what was the testimony?
- 12:38 Well, one testimony came from Pontius Pilot who said,
- 12:42 "I find no fault in this man"
- 12:45 A perfect Lamb was on the horizon, on the scene
- 12:49 and about to prepare himself as a sacrifice for you and for me.
- 13:02 Hi, you know so much is happening in the world today

- 14:05 Passover is a prophecy of our Messiah,
- 14:08 the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
- 14:12 Here we are in Israel with our Seder meal before us
- 14:15 sharing with you the miracle of Passover.
- 14:18 There's so many wonderful little images
- 14:21 that God has given to us.
- 14:22 They're actually a foreshadow, a mikrah
- 14:24 of what he does completely in himself.
- 14:27 When he delivered the people out of Egypt Myles
- 14:29 he said the "Great I Ams" right?
- 14:30 He said that he would deliver them out of bondage
- 14:33 and he would redeem them,
- 14:35 he would rescue them with a strong right arm.
- 14:38 And he would call them to himself
- 14:41 and they would be his people.
- 14:43 He would adopt them.
- 14:44 He would make them his own people.
- 14:47 It's true, and not only do we have that historical reality
- 14:50 but we see it in the midst of the meal.
- 14:53 Those four statements that Katharine mentioned,
- 14:55 The "I wills" you might say,
- 14:57 are symbolized in the four cups that
- 14:59 are drunk during the Passover Seder .
- 15:01 And a traditional prayer is said before each of them.
- 15:04 I'll say it for you now.
- 15:05 " Barukh atah adonai "
- 15:06 " eloheynu melekh ha'olam borey pri hagafen "
- 15:13 Four cups with four meanings.
- 15:15 And really it's where the communion comes from isn't it?
- 15:19 It's where the communion comes from and its
- 15:21 reminding us of the power of the blood.
- 15:23 The Israelites put the blood of the lamb on the door posts
- 15:27 and on the lintel so that the death angel would pass over.
- 15:32 I don't know how many times I prayed that
- 15:34 when we have been in danger,
- 15:36 when we have traveled in India or Africa or in Russia,
- 15:39 I said the blood of the LORD is over our doorposts
- 15:42 and death angel you have to pass over.
- 15:44 There is power in the blood.
- 15:46 Exactly right.
- 15:47 And all of these foods have a symbolic meaning as well.
- 15:50 You see the Feast that we are about to partake of.
- 15:52 But these particular symbolic foods, we have
- 15:55 the burnt sacrifice of the lamb pictured in that bone.
- 15:59 We have the bitter herbs, The Maror .
- 16:01 We have The Kharoset which is a picture of the
- 16:04 work and the labor of being in the land of Egypt
- 16:09 and the deliverance God brought from the building of the bricks
- 16:12 and making the pyramids and the other structures.
- 16:14 We have the Karpas , the fresh new life of being
- 16:18 delivered out of Egypt, out of the bondage of slavery
- 16:21 And then some time in the middle ages
- 16:23 we believe they added a roasted egg which
- 16:25 some people say looks back to the burnt temple
- 16:29 and the mourning for us to be
- 16:31 back in Yerushalayim and back to the Temple.
- 16:33 Some people think it might be a picture of
- 16:37 the pagan sneaking in of a fertility symbol.
- 16:41 But I have good news for you.
- 16:43 The Easter Bunny cannot save you.
- 16:45 It is the blood of the Lamb that saves.
- 16:48 And that's why we have these foods that are
- 16:50 partaken of during the Seder as we move
- 16:53 the story forward as we tell the story.
- 16:55 Now one of the most important,
- 16:57 in fact Rabbi Gamaliel said
- 16:59 that the two most important parts of this Seder are the Matzah and the Bitter Herbs.
- 17:04 The bitter herbs remind us of what we've been delivered from
- 17:07 but the Matzah also.
- 17:09 Typically there would be three Matzot that would be taken
- 17:12 and put inside of a Matza Tosh or Matza pocket.
- 17:16 Now some people say, well why three?
- 17:18 Is it the Levites, the Priests, the people?
- 17:20 Is it Abraham, Isaac and Jacob?
- 17:23 Well, first of all there are 3 that go into the Matza pocket.
- 17:29 But the middle one,
- 17:30 the middle one, the second one
- 17:32 I believe that you can see that what this represents
- 17:36 are the Father, the Son and the Ruach HaKodesh the Holy Spirit
- 17:41 because the middle matza is taken and you
- 17:44 can see even today these are striped and pierced
- 17:47 speaking of Isaiah 53, the sacrifice of Yeshua
- 17:51 who substituted Himself for us.
- 17:53 He was whipped, he was pierced at the cross,
- 17:57 that full sacrifice, that full burning of that life for you and for me.
- 18:02 Here we have a Matza, the Middle One
- 18:05 symbolizing the Son is broken.
- 18:08 And then the broken part is put inside of a white linen and
- 18:13 then the Father of the family, the Abba will
- 18:17 take the white linen and bury it somewhere in the room.
- 18:20 It's called the Afikoman ,
- 18:21 That which comes after, that which comes later.
- 18:25 And during the course of the service at some point
- 18:28 the Father will tell the little children to go out
- 18:31 and look for this "Hidden One".
- 18:34 And then the child who finds it will come excited and just thrilled
- 18:38 and bring it back to the Father of the family.
- 18:41 And here's the picture.
- 18:43 Father, Son, and Holy Spirit;
- 18:45 the Son broken for you and for me
- 18:48 wrapped in white linen, buried but then brought
- 18:52 back before the Father as the perfect ransom.
- 18:55 And then the Father of the home will give the little child a gift.
- 18:58 And it's a picture for us that we need to become like little children
- 19:03 in order to see the Kingdom of Heaven.
- 19:05 There's something about this perfect Sacrifice
- 19:07 that when presented to the Father, paid the price for you and for me.
- 19:12 There's another wonderful secret in the four cups,
- 19:15 and it's the third cup which is when Yeshua said,
- 19:19 "This is my Body and this is my blood which is spilled for you."
- 19:23 We say the prayer over the Bread,
- 19:25 Barukh atah adonai eloheynu melekh ha'olam hamotzi lekhem min ha'aretz .
- 19:29 Blessed are you, O Lord our God, king of the universe, who brings forth bread from the earth.
- 19:34 And we know the Bread of Heaven went into the earth,
- 19:38 came back for us, and is presented to the Father.
- 19:41 But what about that 3rd cup?
- 19:43 Right, the Redemption Cup.
- 19:44 Yes
- 19:45 The Bride Cup
- 19:47 Yes, the Bridal Cup.
- 19:48 Folks, this is so important.
- 19:50 The Bridal Cup pictures that transaction that would take place
- 19:54 when a young man would desire a bride he would go and present a cup,
- 19:59 a silver cup usually, a silver cup picturing redemption.
- 20:03 And if the Bride to be drank from that cup
- 20:06 they were betrothed which is as serious as a wedding.
- 20:09 And I want to say to you today that when Yeshua said,
- 20:12 This is my blood which is given for you
- 20:14 he was inviting you to the marriage supper of the Lamb.
- 20:18 He was inviting you to drink of that cup
- 20:21 and be forever betrothed to him and wed to him.

- 21:55 We're going to talk more about Passover Myles.
- 21:58 I love talking about the Feasts
- 22:00 because they're God's appointments with us.
- 22:03 He has a Daytimer up in heaven.
- 22:05 And he's like, Okay, on this moed , on this appointed time
- 22:09 I'm going to institute my Covenant with the people
- 22:13 that if they receive me, receive the blood,
- 22:16 I'm going to cause the death angel to pass over.
- 22:18 There's so many layers to the Feasts
- 22:21 and there's also a lot of names.
- 22:22 It can be confusing at the same time.
- 22:24 You know it's so wonderful to see the Church now
- 22:27 is understanding something of the Biblical calendar
- 22:30 and beginning to come to terms with these are set times,
- 22:33 appointed times, they're called a mikra , which is a rehearsal
- 22:36 because they point to the coming of the LORD.
- 22:38 They point to the Messiah.
- 22:40 And especially Passover, such a revelatory experience when
- 22:43 we host them at churches or in different congregations.
- 22:46 It's just amazing to see how people respond,
- 22:49 how they see Yeshua in the Passover.
- 22:51 And so we are just blessed to speak about Passover

- 26:10 I know you enjoyed Carolyn's music.
- 26:12 It's so wonderful.
- 26:13 You know, God is the God who brought
- 26:15 the people of Israel out with his strong right hand.
- 26:18 Yeah, I love the Hebrew language, you know.
- 26:20 It's so amazing to understand that the
- 26:22 Hebrew word for Passover is " Pesach "
- 26:24 The root word is " Pesa " which means "to limp"
- 26:28 And it points to the blood of the Lamb,
- 26:30 the limping, the broken, the Suffering Servant Messiah
- 26:33 whose blood would be spilled on behalf of his people.
- 26:36 It's and amazing picture that's hidden
- 26:38 in the very word for Passover.
- 26:41 It goes back to Genesis 3:15
- 26:42 where we see that the prophecy
- 26:44 about Messiah would be that
- 26:46 he would crush Satan's head
- 26:48 but Satan would bruise his heal.
- 26:50 And that is the picture of the cross
- 26:52 that Yeshua was broken and he was bruised,
- 26:55 and it please the Father to bruise him on your behalf
- 26:58 and on my behalf as well.
- 26:59 WOW, I'm so glad God made a way for us
