 - 01:00 Shalom and welcome to our program...I'm Myles Weiss
 - 01:03 And I'm Katharine Weiss
 - 01:04 and we want to welcome you to our series on Jerusalem...
 - 01:08 The Ancient Gates... the Future Glory.
 - 01:10 We're really on a journey aren't we?
 - 01:12 We're going through all the gates
 - 01:14 seeing that they have a historical, a current
 - 01:16 and a prophetic meaning.
 - 01:18 We're really going to take you on this tour.
 - 01:21 We've been going through... beginning at The Dung Gate
 - 01:24 Going to The Zion Gate, The Jaffa Gate, The New Gate.
 - 01:28 Today we'll be looking at The Damascus Gate.
 - 01:31 And in upcoming programs we're going to finish
 - 01:34 the entire modern city of Jerusalem
 - 01:36 by looking at Herod's Gate
 - 01:37 The Lion's Gate
 - 01:39 and finally The Eastern Gate or The Golden Gate,
 - 01:42 the Beautiful Gate... the Messiah's Gate.
 - 01:44 WOW...what a journey!
 - 01:46 Before we get to The Damascus Gate
 - 01:48 we're going to hear from Professor Shimon Gibson.
 - 01:51 And he's going to tell us about a Gate
 - 01:53 that dates back to the time of Yeshua, Jesus.
 - 01:56 Let's take a look.
 - 01:59 Ancient texts and scripture tell us about the Gates of Jerusalem
 - 02:04 We're provided sometimes with their names and their location.
 - 02:08 But archeological excavations have only produced one or two.
 - 02:12 This is one of those Gates.
 - 02:15 It's located on the western side of Jerusalem
 - 02:17 on the site of a building complex which existed
 - 02:21 in the first century at the time of Jesus
 - 02:24 known as the "Critorium".
 - 02:26 This is the place where the trial of Jesus took place.
 - 02:29 Now, it's quite important
 - 02:31 because here at this gate Jesus was brought.
 - 02:35 He was then brought in front of Pontius Pilot,
 - 02:39 condemned and then led off for crucifixion.
 - 02:42 We hear from the Gospel of John
 - 02:45 that it was at the place known as "Lithostrotos"
 - 02:49 which means in Greek, "stone pavement".
 - 02:52 And this is what has been found in excavations here.
 - 02:55 A pavement situated between two gates
 - 02:58 in front of the military barracks of the Critorium.
 - 03:02 The other feature which is important is that we hear from the Gospel of John
 - 03:07 that the place was also known as "Gabbatha"
 - 03:10 which is Aramaic for "stone or rocky protuberance".
 - 03:15 And over on the left you can see part of the rocky outcrop
 - 03:19 which is probably being referred to there.
 - 03:22 So this is the place of the trial of Jesus.
 - 03:25 Now, we know of other gates which existed around Jerusalem because of their descriptions.
 - 03:31 Some of them are rather oblique such as the name of one gate which is "The Sheep Gate".
 - 03:38 It clearly led to a place where the sheep were watered or kept in a corral.
 - 03:44 Alternatively, we can have a place known as "The Dung Gate".
 - 03:48 Clearly, dung and rubbish was thrown out of the gate.
 - 03:52 But it doesn't really help us in positioning those gates.
 - 03:55 There are other gates however which have topographical information.
 - 03:59 Gates which exist even today known as The Damascus Gate and the Jaffa Gate.
 - 04:05 These are gates which led towards the cities
 - 04:08 which were at a greater distance from Jerusalem.
 - 04:13 So this is the information that we have from archaeology and from ancient texts.
 - 04:19 Combined together they give us that picture which helps us
 - 04:22 understand the topography of Jerusalem at the time of Jesus.
 - 04:29 (Myles Weiss speaking)
 - 04:30 Professor Gibson is a world renown archaeologist
 - 04:33 with unprecedented access to nearly every major discovery pertaining to Jesus.
 - 04:37 He's been excavating in Jerusalem for over 30 years
 - 04:40 and is very familiar with the ancient gates of this Holy City.
 - 04:45 The Damascus Gate is situated on the northern side of the Old City.
 - 04:50 In fact, it's one of the principal gates of Jerusalem.
 - 04:53 It's named after the City of Damascus
 - 04:55 which is of course outside of Jerusalem.
 - 04:57 And the road led towards north in the direction of Damascus.
 - 05:01 Of course it would have taken a week going from Jerusalem to reach Damascus.
 - 05:07 However, under this gate which was built
 - 05:11 by Suleiman the Magnificent in the mid sixteenth century,
 - 05:14 are the remains of an ancient Roman gate which has been excavated by archaeologists.
 - 05:19 And this Roman gate is quite interesting
 - 05:21 because it's part of a triumphal gate
 - 05:24 which was built at the time of Hadrian
 - 05:27 when he rebuilt Jerusalem as Aelia Capitolina.
 - 05:32 This gate has 3 entrances.
 - 05:34 Only the left side of this gate has been unearthed.
 - 05:38 Inside the gate archaeologists came across a large expanse of stone pavement.
 - 05:45 And this pavement is what is shown on the Madaba map of Jerusalem.
 - 05:50 It's a Byzantine mosaic map which represents Jerusalem in the sixth century.
 - 05:55 And in the middle of this paved courtyard is a representation of a column.
 - 06:03 And it's quite interesting that the name in Arabic of this gate
 - 06:08 is "Bab al-Amud", "Gate of the Column"
 - 06:11 which continues that tradition going back to Roman times.
 - 06:32 We're coming to you from Jerusalem.
 - 06:33 We're here at The Damascus Gate"
 - 06:35 The Damascus Gate is on the north side of the City.
 - 06:37 And it is one of the most important gates in the City.
 - 06:40 It is the entrance to all of the Arab life here.
 - 06:43 There is the market place that is busy.
 - 06:45 People are coming are coming and going...buying and selling.
 - 06:47 It's the hotbed of life, a Muslim expression is here
 - 06:50 and it is an important gate
 - 06:52 because it points towards Shechem and also towards Damascus.
 - 06:56 Like we were telling you earlier
 - 06:58 each gate is named after the direction to which it is pointed.
 - 07:01 And this gate is the northern gate and it's pointing to Damascus,
 - 07:05 Shechem at the other side of it.
 - 07:07 But also it's wonderful to notice that
 - 07:10 God has said that there would be trouble from the north.
 - 07:13 Jeremiah, Isaiah, Ezekiel said that there is trouble coming from the north.
 - 07:18 And this gate is pointing towards the north.
 - 07:20 And often there is trouble on this side of the city.
 - 07:24 Isn't it amazing that going north from here
 - 07:27 is where Paul went and was on the road to Damascus
 - 07:30 when he had his encounter with Yeshua.
 - 07:33 We read about it in Acts chapter 9
 - 07:35 where he was knocked down, he was blinded
 - 07:38 and he was sent to the house of a believer who healed him
 - 07:41 and the Gospel went forward
 - 07:42 because of what happened to Saul on the road to Damascus.
 - 07:46 And we're standing here near the gate that leads to the road of Damascus.
 - 07:52 And we are currently in a season where all eyes are on Damascus
 - 07:55 because of the troubles in Syria and the difficulty that's there.
 - 07:59 And the Israelis are watching that,
 - 08:01 the world is watching that.
 - 08:03 We don't know what will happen in the short term.
 - 08:05 We do know that in the long term there is going to be a prophetic change that comes to Damascus
 - 08:09 which is very, very serious.
 - 08:11 In the meantime we're watching because of the Syrians being a proxy for Iran
 - 08:16 and the troubles that come from Iran as they marshall through Syria, Hezbollah in the north.
 - 08:21 So trouble comes from the North
 - 08:23 but the Gospel went north from here
 - 08:25 and so there's always the possibility of God doing
 - 08:28 something over and above what we could ask or think.
 - 08:31 Absolutely, and that is our heartbeat is that we pray for
 - 08:34 the soul conversion of all people groups;
 - 08:37 that encounter from God that takes us out of the religious concept
 - 08:42 and brings us into a reality.
 - 08:44 Saul heard the LORD Himself talk in a Hebrew tongue and saying,
 - 08:48 Saul, Saul why do you persecute me?
 - 08:51 And God Himself revealed Himself and took the blinders off.
 - 08:54 And that's what we are praying for the Muslim people here.
 - 08:57 And I know that you're wanting to stand with us as we pray
 - 09:01 for the revelation of Sar Shalom to come in this northern gate.
 - 09:06 Yes, The Prince of Peace
 - 09:08 that He would invade the mosque,
 - 09:09 that He would come to the Muslim people and transform their hearts
 - 09:13 to those who love everyone around them.

 - 10:29 We're here in Jerusalem at the Damascus Gate.
 - 10:31 A very important gate that is the center of Muslim activity
 - 10:35 in the north of the city and leads to Damascus
 - 10:38 where the Gospel went with Saul as he was encountered by Yeshua
 - 10:42 But if you go back in time to Genesis 24:60
 - 10:45 there's a prophecy to Rebekah about the twins that she would bring forth.
 - 10:50 And it says to her...
 - 10:51 (Speaking Hebrew)
 - 10:55 That your descendants would possess the gates of their enemies.
 - 11:00 In other words, there is going to become a spiritual battle
 - 11:03 between the sons of Jacob and the sons of Esau.
 - 11:06 But folks there is hope
 - 11:08 because both the sons of Jacob and the sons of Esau
 - 11:11 can turn to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
 - 11:15 through Yeshua Ha Meshiach.
 - 11:17 And we're here to declare that hope.
 - 11:19 Just recently I was with a young new friend of mine here in the Land.
 - 11:23 He came from a Muslim background
 - 11:25 and was gloriously encountered by Yeshua.
 - 11:27 A personal salvation with spoken words to his heart
 - 11:31 that just transformed his life.
 - 11:33 Now he is being trained up to follow the Lord and to be a blessing to all around him.
 - 11:38 We've had the privilege of meeting him this trip to Israel.
 - 11:41 I want you to know that there are others
 - 11:43 that God wants to raise up out of the Muslim world.
 - 11:45 Not only so, right near here
 - 11:48 are the ancient gates, the original gates.
 - 11:51 And near those gates the cave of Zedekiah.
 - 11:54 And that is where even today the freemasons come to this area
 - 11:58 in order to do their initiation rights.
 - 12:01 Folks this is a center of a cultic and religious and dark activity.
 - 12:06 And God wants to transform it.
 - 12:08 Your prayers are vital for this area.
 - 12:11 Not far from here is Meashearim.
 - 12:13 The most ultra-orthodox area
 - 12:15 where we're praying that the ultra-orthodox Jews would come to know our own Messiah.
 - 12:19 That they would be lifted up out of this 18th-19th century garb and rabbi worship
 - 12:26 and come into the worship of the One Living Rabbi, Yeshua Ha Meshiach.
 - 12:30 We're looking for that.
 - 12:32 We're looking for the overturning of the occultic spirit that's here,
 - 12:36 the freemasons and the way that the freemasons go out from here
 - 12:40 around the world to work behind the scenes for evil.
 - 12:43 We want to see that overturned.
 - 12:45 And certainly as far as Islam goes we're looking for our Arab cousins to come to know Yeshua.
 - 12:50 And for all those around the world that go by the religious ideology of Islam
 - 12:55 that they would be transformed as well.
 - 12:57 That they would have a "Saul on the Road to Damascus" experience
 - 13:01 that they would be transformed.
 - 13:02 And from this place would arise Apostolic type leadership to come and say
 - 13:07 there is one way and His Name is Yeshua, Ha Meshiach.

 - 15:19 What about the International Christian Zionist Center?
 - 15:21 Tell us about the heartbeat of that work and how it evolved
 - 15:24 and where you're going with it.
 - 15:26 Well, it's amazing.
 - 15:30 The Lord has led me already years ago when I finished my work at the Garden Tomb
 - 15:39 to live in Anatoth where Jeremiah lived.
 - 15:43 And although one cannot compare one's self with Jeremiah
 - 15:49 I still feel it was the Lord that brought me to that Anatoth
 - 15:54 because I have such a prophetic calling I believe by God's grace and mercy to the nations.
 - 16:01 And however important the concern for having godly ministers and government people
 - 16:14 the Bible is so clear that a nation has no chance
 - 16:19 to survive in the end time if it goes against Israel.
 - 16:24 It doesn't say the nation that does abortion will perish although that is terrible.
 - 16:30 But the Bible is unbelievably clear
 - 16:33 the nation that shall not serve Israel, Isaiah 60:12, shall perish.
 - 16:39 And then God adds through the prophet, yes, shall be utterly perishing.
 - 16:44 And then in Joel it says God will bring all the nations
 - 16:48 to the valley of Jehoshaphat to judge them.
 - 16:52 Not because of general immorality however bad that is
 - 16:56 and sucks the strength also of America.
 - 16:59 But the reason that God gives
 - 17:01 is because these nations that I'm going to judge have divided my Land.
 - 17:08 I think I'm the only one of the prophetic people that live actually in the West Bank
 - 17:14 where I have my office near Bethel where the story started.
 - 17:20 I wish that all the American Christians, Jews and Believers
 - 17:25 would rise up and say we believe the Bible
 - 17:30 and the Bible says that God has given ALL this Land to His people.
 - 17:35 And He is so excited about it
 - 17:38 that when He writes and prophecies about the return of the Jews to their nation
 - 17:45 He says I will plant you with my whole heart and my whole soul.
 - 17:52 And I look up and we are here in front of the Creator,
 - 17:55 the God of Israel, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob
 - 17:59 who by His grace and through Jesus has made me also as a Gentile His son.
 - 18:05 And I said, God you threw all the stars and planets all over the universe.
 - 18:12 Is it so important for you to bring your little people Israel
 - 18:17 back to this little place called Israel, a small place
 - 18:21 when I know the Arabs have twice the size of the United States of America as territory...
 - 18:27 Is it so important for you?
 - 18:29 Then where is the passion of all the Christians who see this program?
 - 18:35 What about your whole heart
 - 18:38 and your whole soul?
 - 18:40 Are you willing to flow with God says God if it's so important.
 - 18:46 I'll tell you even now while I speak I feel the Lord says show them,
 - 18:51 show them how important it is.
 - 18:53 God has promised to save this planet earth from its own stupidity
 - 18:58 and sin and rebellion
 - 19:01 through one nation.
 - 19:03 And Paul says it even in the New Testament,
 - 19:06 if their rejection, their diminishing, their scattering
 - 19:10 has meant a reconciliation of the Gentiles
 - 19:14 who have now through the Gospel been able to become
 - 19:17 sons and daughters of that wonderful God that I love
 - 19:21 what shall the receiving and the fullness of Israel be
 - 19:25 but life from the death of this planet earth.
 - 19:28 So how can Christians don't be excited with their God?
 - 19:32 Says, Lord if you need the Jews to be planted on their own earth, on their own land...
 - 19:40 You know it's very clear.
 - 19:42 God says it is My people
 - 19:45 and God says it is my Land.
 - 19:47 So He puts His people on His Land.
 - 19:51 And no Abu Mazen,
 - 19:54 and no Obama
 - 19:56 and no European weak politicians
 - 19:59 are going to stand in His way.
 - 20:02 And God speaks from heaven.
 - 20:03 And I feel that God wants the Christians to become
 - 20:06 a little bit more courageous in their speaking for us.
 - 20:10 The nations imagine a vain thing
 - 20:13 And what is the vain thing?
 - 20:14 That all the nations, even George W. Bush and the European leaders
 - 20:18 and all the leaders of the world have agreed to?
 - 20:21 There will be peace when we have two states solutions.
 - 20:26 Two states solution...shaw!
 - 20:28 And we know it's going to be opposite of peace.
 - 20:32 As even Rabin said, to have a Palestinian state
 - 20:36 will be on the ruins of the state of Israel.
 - 20:40 The Jews parted with Gush Katif
 - 20:45 Yes - Gaza
 - 20:46 with Gaza.
 - 20:48 Did it become peace? No
 - 20:49 It became a terrorist base.
 - 20:51 They went out of Lebanon.
 - 20:53 Did it cause more peace between Lebanon and Israel? No
 - 20:56 It became a Hezbollah terrorist state.
 - 20:58 So now the stupid world with stupid politicians
 - 21:03 are telling us to do it a 3rd time.
 - 21:06 Recede from the West Bank and all the Muslims said,
 - 21:09 And we will make it the cornerstone of the destruction

 - 25:37 and then those grafted-in
 - 25:39 will stand within the gates of Jerusalem.
 - 25:41 It's God's Word.
 - 25:42 It's God's plan for that area.
 - 25:45 We've heard from Shimon Gibson.
 - 25:48 We've heard about the archaeology of the Land.
 - 25:50 We've heard from Jan Willem the theology of the Land.
 - 25:54 But the eschatology, the end times...
 - 25:56 the study of the end times the last word of the end times
 - 25:59 belong to the Lord.
 - 26:01 The I Am.
 - 26:02 Yes, He is the Great I Am.
 - 26:03 He will have His way in that Land and on this planet.
 - 26:07 It's not an accident that the gates are mentioned 129 times in the scripture.
 - 26:14 It's something that God is pointing to because ultimately
 - 26:17 the Word is to open up the Gates so that the King of Glory can come in.
 - 26:22 And that's where we'll end this series
 - 26:23 will be with that mysterious Eastern Gate, The Messiah's Gate.
 - 26:27 The Mercy Gate.
 - 26:28 The Mercy Gate...The King's Gate
 - 26:30 it's going to be really amazing.
 - 26:31 You know God is just so much bigger than the tensions we see in the political realm.
 - 26:35 And He will have the last Word.
 - 26:38 Next week we're going to go to Herod's Gate
 - 26:41 and see something about the tension between the natural and the supernatural.
 - 26:45 You know I always like to remember Psalm 2
 - 26:48 about when the heathen rage they try to seek council
 - 26:52 to see how they can undo the plan of God.
 - 26:55 God sits in heaven and laughs.
 - 26:58 And that's the attitude we need to have.
 - 27:01 We need to be sober, we need to be awake,
 - 27:03 we need to be vigilant, we need to know our prophecy.
 - 27:06 But we're not to be in fear.
 - 27:08 We're to have the peace of God,
 - 27:10 the joy of God, and the laughter of God.
 - 27:12 It's really true.
 - 27:13 Thank you for that.
 - 27:14 And that's why we always remind you
 - 27:16 Sha'alu Shalom Yerushalayim
 - 27:18 Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
