Dear Friends,

Although much has been made of Mahmoud Abbas’ resignation as Prime Minister of the Palestinian Authority, this might be one of the best things to happen in some time. The reason is well detailed in the following op-ed article — written before the resignation — by Morton A. Klein, national president of the Zionist Organization of America. To my surprise this editorial actually appeared in USA Today. — Zola

Abbas is a career terrorist, not a peacemaker. For more than 40 years, he has been second-in-command to mass murderer Yasser Arafat. He and Arafat co-founded the Fatah terrorist movement, which has perpetrated many of the suicide bombings and other attacks of recent years. Abbas is also a Holocaust-denier; he authored a hate-filled book denying the Nazis murdered 6 million Jews. Abbas still pledges loyalty to Arafat, stating on May 22: “We do not do anything without his approval.”

Abbas has ignored the requirements of the 1993 Oslo accords and President Bush’s “Road Map” that he arrest and disarm terrorists, dismantle terror groups and halt anti-Jewish and anti-Israel incitement. Abbas has not even changed the names of the many streets, parks and summer camps named for suicide bombers and terrorists.

Providing US money and other material benefits to the Palestinian Arabs will not end terrorism, because poverty is not what drives terrorists to kill. A recent study of 250 “aspiring Palestinian suicide bombers and their recruiters” found “none were uneducated, desperately poor, simple-minded or depressed.” They are motivated by hatred of Jews and rejection of a non-Muslim state in the Middle East. The issue is not borders or settlements; their goal is to destroy Israel.

To give the Palestinian Arabs a sovereign state, as the Bush road map proposes, would result in the rise of a dangerous terrorist state. That would undermine America’s war against terrorism by showing terrorists that terrorism pays.

A recent poll found that 71 percent of Americans oppose the creation of a Palestinian Arab state. History teaches that appeasing haters and warmongers never brings peace — only military victory does. It was a military victory, not negotiations, that put an end to Hitler’s Nazi regime. It was also a military victory, not negotiations, that brought an end to slavery in America.

Just as the United States put an end to the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and Saddam Hussein’s regime in Iraq, the US should support Israel in defeating the terrorist Palestinian Authority regime. Expelling Arafat and Abbas would be a justifiable first step.

We now have a new Palestinian “Prime Minister” since the dictator, Arafat, chose another crony for Washington to toady up to. More below. — Zola

As noted above, Klein is the head of the Zionist Organization of America. In recent years, the word “Zionist” has taken a beating and has even been equated with racism by the UN.

But God is a Zionist. He has always wanted His people to be in Israel.

Zionism is simply the wish of the Chosen People to return to the Promised Land, in agreement with God’s perfect will. It is contingent on every Jewish person, myself included, to think hard about where God wants us to be. After all, the Old Testament is basically a story of Jewish people occupying their Promised Land (in accordance with their level of obedience to God’s will). And it is clear that the saved Jewish people, along with the Church, will occupy that land for a thousand years plus eternity in the New Jerusalem.

And speaking of moving to Israel, this is a time when believers really need to show their support for Israel simply by going there. Vote with your feet!

We have four ways you can do this. One is our upcoming Deluxe Tour of Israel, which will depart on November 2nd and return on the 12th. Or you can take our Grand Petra Tour, which visits both Israel and Petra; this one will depart on November 2nd and return on the 16th. Our Grand Athens Tour will cruise the Greek Isles and then tour Israel; this tour extends from October 29th through November 12th. Finally, our Ultra-Grand Tour, with everything, including the Greek Isles, Israel and Petra, will begin on October 29th and end on November 16th.

Israel feels so strongly that people should be visiting that it is giving ordained pastors a discount of $1,000. If you’re a pastor, I’m hoping you’ll take advantage of this offer. It is essential that you sign up immediately since the airlines are limiting international flights; those who put off scheduling their trip may miss out. I’m very serious about this.

If you can’t make it all the way to the real Israel, please join us in Orlando, Florida, at The Holy Land Experience where we will tour on the weekend after Thanksgiving (November 28th–30th) and the weekend after Christmas (December 26th–28th). This excellent site gives a very realistic picture of first-century Jerusalem, with many Biblical attractions. Our people have loved it in the past, and our package cost makes it less expensive than doing the same trip on your own. Be sure to bring the kids — you’ll have a hotel suite! There will be plenty of time for questions and answers with me in this next-to-the-best Israel experience.

Moishe Rosen, founder of Jews for Jesus, recently noticed that www.rateitall.com, The Opinion Network, rates Zola as the best of the TV evangelists and that Charity Navigator puts our ministry at the top of our peer group.

Rate It All compiles the ratings of visitors to their web site and furnishes spaces for comments as well. With ratings from viewers who gave their opinions, we are at the top of a list of 31 ministries, placing ahead of Charles Stanley, John Hagee, and Billy Graham (second through fourth, respectively). Charity Navigator put Zola Levitt Ministries in first place, ahead of four of our peers.

More of this heartening news in the upcoming Levitt Letter.

A number of interesting stories continue to come across our desk (or virtual desk in the case of e-mails). Among them:

US policy in the Middle East is facing another danger today. Yasser Arafat’s new handpicked Prime Minister, Ahmed Qurei, lost no time in making it clear that he would not try to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure and that he expects the US to stop Israel from going after the leaders of Hamas. [What a surprise!] In other words, he has already rejected the number one obligation of the Palestinian side in the Road Map….

Each day it is clearer to all but those who intentionally shut their eyes that there is no serious Palestinian leader with whom Israel can negotiate. Ideally, President Bush would tell Prime Minister Sharon to do what he has to do to win this terror war against Israel. At a minimum, the President should tell Secretary of State Powell to quit lecturing the only reliable ally and friend we have in the Middle East. — Gary L. Bauer, “Another Puppet,” American Values Newsletter.

The first female suicide terrorist to strike Israel was glorified in song on official Palestinian Authority television in July. Wafa Idris, who killed an Israeli and wounded 150 others in Jerusalem on January 27, 2002, was feted on a broadcast, the Israel-based monitor Palestinian Media Watch reported. Her act of terrorism has been regularly honored by the PA, including the naming of educational programs and summer camps after her. After the attack last year, Idris’ mother, Wasfiyeh, proudly described her daughter as a martyr and a “daughter of Palestine.” The suicide bombing reportedly inspired other women in Palestinian refugee camps to follow her example. — “Palestinian TV Glorifies Female ‘Martyr’,” WorldNetDaily.com

The Islamization of the US continues. Here’s a notice that appeared in The Chicago Sun Times a couple of months ago:

Chicago area followers of Islam will gather at Six Flags Great America on Aug. 16 for “Muslim Family Day.” The amusement park will provide space for daily prayer. Muslim women will be able to enjoy the rides wearing their headscarves, provided the headscarves are secured.

Iraqis, who have suffered for months with little electricity, gloated [during the recent widespread] blackout in the northeastern United States and southern Canada and offered some tips to help Americans beat the heat… from frequent showers to rooftop slumber parties…. [In Iraq] daily highs have soared above 120 degrees Fahrenheit recently as Iraq’s US administrators have been unable to get power back to prewar levels. Some said it was poetic justice that some Americans should suffer the same fate, if only briefly.

“Let them taste what we have tasted,” said Ali Abdul Hussein, selling Keep Cold brand ice chests on a sidewalk. “Let them sit outside drinking tea and smoking cigarettes waiting for the power to come back, just like the Iraqis.” — “Iraqis’ Top 10 Tips for Enduring Blackout In the Heat,” Associated Press

A Muslim dating service recently appeared online at: www.muslimfriendship.com. The staff member who alerted me wrote,

I didn’t sign up for the service, but it took a lot of willpower to avoid visiting the pages since I had to wonder, “Are all the women pictured there behind veils?” And if so, how does a guy pick his future mate? By eye color? The thickness of her eyebrows? I can imagine, too, the write-up Muslim gals might place online about themselves: “I like hiking and outdoor sports. Prefer a man who owns his own AK-47 and is not interested in building bombs at home.”

Jan Willem van der Hoeven, director of the International Christian Zionist Center, has made some suggestions worth pursuing in his article, “Expel Arafat or Try Him Like Eichmann?”:

Would one expel Hitler, or try him in court for genocide? Would the US expel Osama bin Laden if it had the opportunity to arrest and try him for mass murder? …Rafi Eitan, anti-terrorism advisor to Israel’s prime ministers in the 1970s and 1980s, said Monday that Arafat should be brought to Jerusalem and put on trial as a war criminal. Eitan was quoted in The Jerusalem Post saying: “Arafat is a war criminal. We should take him to court and try him for war crimes. He has brought great misery and destruction on the Palestinians and on us. He is a murderer. Bring him to Jerusalem, like [Nazi official Adolf] Eichmann….”

[Arafat] has a good working relationship with the Hamas terrorists and, in front of the world press, openly praised one of the group’s worst killers, Yihye Ayyash…. When fellow Palestinians stand in his way, he does not hesitate to have them killed or tortured. There is no person too low or too cruel for him to meet with. He has worked closely with nearly all the terrorist organizations in the world. He is responsible for the killing of numerous people, including journalists and US diplomats; murders for which he has never so much as breathed an apology.

Thousands upon thousands of people who have not committed even one percent of his misdeeds and atrocities are safely behind bars. Should he not be too?

…The Bible contains a clear lesson in this regard after Israel’s King Ahab is severely rebuked by God’s prophet for letting Ben-hadad, also a cruel enemy of Israel, go free: “Thus says the Lord: ‘Because you have let slip out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people’” (1 Kings 20:42).

Israel already once expelled Arafat from Beirut, leaving him free to go to Tunisia and reestablish his terror machine from there. Thousands of Israeli men, women and children have paid with their lives for that grievous mistake. May it not be repeated this time!

There is no “cycle of violence.” The attacks on Israel continue whether that nation strikes back or not. During the “cease-fire” there were repeated attacks and Israel restrained itself (under pressure from us) until the Jerusalem bus bombing that killed so many Israeli children. In August alone, dozens of attacks by Palestinian terrorists were thwarted and ignored by the media.

What is happening is not a “cycle of violence.” It is a persistent campaign by jihadists and their allies to destroy the State of Israel. These are the same people who want to push the US out of Iraq and the whole Middle East. They are the same people who hope eventually to bring their car bomb strategy to “Every Town USA,” and are plotting more September 11th attacks right now. — Gary L. Bauer, American Values newsletter.

The Road Map is simply a killing machine. It’s worse than I first thought. It has cost a great many Israeli lives while making not one inch of progress toward peace — in fact, we’ve gone backwards. We should opt out of interfering in Israeli affairs, as I’ve preached for 25 years. The US is a danger to Israel, in effect cursing Israel, and is not in a position to give advice.

As I continued my speaking tour of the Midwest this past summer, Pittsburg State University was one of those talks that I most looked forward to, since it is well represented on the Internet as having pro-Palestinian faculty members and pro-Palestinian views. But I was disheartened by the level of the discourse. One professor mostly spouted the standard propaganda, saying the Israelis were the terrorists, and that jihad has nothing to do with attacking. “I am doing jihad right now,” he said, referring to his arguing with the speaker. A girl wearing an Arab headdress was another antagonist not much better than the professor. She simply accused me of blaming all Muslims for the sins of a few extremists and so forth.

I now understand why the Muslims don’t come out to these meetings. They have very little to say and there’s no way they can defend the pack of lies that go out from their “public relations” people or explain the unrelenting terrorism. I don’t think I changed any hearts since most in the audience were Christians, solidly with me. But again, I was totally taken aback by the low level of opposition I received from what is purported to be a faculty member at a state university.

Still, in all, I was glad that they had me visit. It was more than the University of Wisconsin, University of Illinois, etc., were willing to do. Or Valparaiso University, a Christian college at Valparaiso, Indiana, where I was told by an official, “We are very pro-Palestinian here.” More in the upcoming Levitt Letter.

Now, more than ever, remember to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
