Dear Friends:

How are a few Palestinian murderers able to change world opinion about Israel? In reality, this is done by the media of the United States and Europe, which trumpet everything the Arabs say and do. In fact, they serve as a megaphone for Arafat and his henchmen as they go about their bloody deeds.

The two main forces that motivate the media are petro-dollars and anti-Semitism. I’ve said it before, but we must all surely realize that the media are primarily profit-making organizations that cater to their best customers, the oil merchants, who provide the petroleum for manufacturers making automobiles, plastics, cosmetics, etc., who purchase advertising in newspapers, magazines and television. They will say anything about anyone with no regard for the truth — all for the sake of money. As to anti-Semitism, it runs rampant in a world where so few have looked at the Scriptures or know the importance of Israel in God’s prophetic plans.

It’s not just Moody Bible Institute, Dallas Seminary or Talbot Seminary that have dropped the ball at this most crucial time. The entire legion of denominational Protestant churches and the Catholics are, for all practical purposes, pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel. This sets them directly against the God of Israel and helps explain why “there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth” when the Lord takes His own. I constantly remind believers who have a problem with the Jewish people that the first thing they will do in heaven — and this could happen tonight — is to have a face-to-face interview with the King of the Jews!

In the meaningful 1947 Academy Award winning film about anti-Semitism, “Gentleman’s Agreement,” Gregory Peck angrily gives the following speech:

You’ve only assured him that he’s the most wonderful of all creatures — white, Christian Americans. You instantly gave him that lovely taste of superiority, the poison that millions of parents drop into the minds of millions of children….

I’ve come to see that lots of nice people who aren’t [anti-Semites], people who despise it and deplore it and protest their own innocence help it along and then wonder why it grows. People who would never beat up a Jew or yell “Kike” at a child, people who think that anti-Semitism is something that is way off in some dark crackpot place with low-class morons. That’s the biggest discovery that I’ve made about this whole business — the good people, the nice people.

In sum, Israel’s worst enemies are people considered good and nice — the media, the United Nations, the governments of Europe and the U.S. administration (including the president and the State Department), and finally, the Arabs, who are doing very little real damage, but are perceived as some kind of underdog that needs peace conferences and other protections.

The upcoming peace conference announced to be held in Europe pushes prophecy forward a step if we realize that the Antichrist rises out of the European confederacy.

Dick Morris was interviewed recently on Fox News concerning our war on terrorism. He may not be the most palatable character to some people, since he was a discredited Clinton advisor, but he seems to have quite a grasp on world affairs. He complained that we’ve been acting like firefighters. The terrorists go around and start fires, as in Israel or India or Afghanistan, and we tend to rush to the scenes with our fire trucks to put out the flames. Instead, we should be getting the arsonists wherever they are before they strike. And, most especially, we should deal with those who fund and otherwise aid the arsonists. That would be certainly include Saudi Arabia and Iran, if not Iraq and Syria. Unfortunately, Morris says, our war on terrorism is being delayed and we have to get serious about fighting it in earnest. If we don’t extend the war to the countries named above, then we should not be surprised to find the fires of terrorism starting here in America.

Israel had trouble with real arsonists in the past in the forests of Galilee. Those trees that were so lovingly hand-planted were being set aflame by youngsters from nearby Arab villages trying to do their part as Jew-haters. The Israelis did put out the fires, but they simultaneously went into the villages and got the arsonists where they lived. Given a free hand, Israel would finish off its terrorist problems overnight and be a real help with the terrorists we ourselves are facing. Instead, the function of the American government seems to be to go over to Israel, and as the firefighters work, cut through their hoses and turn off the water hydrants.

And we claim to be in a friendly coalition with Saudi Arabia, Iran and Syria. I think the only two people in the world who believe that these despotic regimes are on our side in this war are George W. Bush and Colin Powell.

CNN Moneyline host, Lou Dobbs, found himself embroiled in controversy recently because of the following statement about calling our war on terror what it really is, a war against Islamists.

The government and the media for the past nine months…have been calling this a war against terror. So have we here. But terror is not the enemy. It is what the enemy wants to achieve. So… we’re making a change in the interest of clarity and honesty. The enemies in this war are radical Islamics who argue that all non-believers in their faith must be killed. They are called Islamists. That’s what we are doing tonight. Abandoning that phrase “war against terror.” The new phrase is the “war against Islamists.” Let us be clear. This is not a war against Muslims or Islam…. It is a war against Islamists and all who support them, and if ever there were a time for clarity, it is now.

Hat’s off to Lou Dobbs! Many viewers expressed their approval. I’ll say it once again; we will lose this war on terrorism if we keep stalling around. I said that on September 12, 2001 from Israel, and I’m still saying it. Without real action against the true terrorists — and those who harbor them — we will see a new Dark Age under Islam take root in this world if the Lord tarries.

Speaking of coalitions that can’t be trusted, Syria, probably among the most primitive and backward of all Arab nations, is now the head of the UN Security Council! Put this news side-by-side with Yasser Arafat’s invitation to Hamas to join his newly “reshuffled” “government.”

The very fact that Arafat is still in charge — or even still alive — means that real peace cannot be achieved, no matter who says what or does what. That is something the Levitt Letter announced some 20-odd years ago and has steadily held to throughout all of these calamities.

And as for Israel, we have experienced still another quiet, peaceful and very spiritual tour in Israel. Convenient for teachers and students, our June tours include archaeological digs, and reside at kibbutz guesthouses, which are pleasant and comfortable. The kibbutzim get very good reviews for accommodations, and particularly for exceptional food. Much of what is eaten at breakfast and supper is literally picked that morning, since most kibbutzim include a farm. Americans have forgotten the taste of truly fresh fruits and vegetables, and they are thoroughly gratified by kibbutz food. We will use upgraded kibbutzim on our Fall Tour in October.

Am I surprised that the tour was perfectly peaceful? Not really. One individual asked, “How can you send your wife over to Israel?” I replied, “I’m giving her a break from the violence in the U.S.” It’s a true statement. More people are killed in New York City — with an similar population to Israel — every day, every week and every month, than in Israel in its very worst times. I’m so tired of repeating it; we Americans are living in the most violent country in the world and Israel is near the top of the truly safe countries even now.

But the Palestinians have succeeded in decimating Israel’s tourism industry with their murders. There is no question that tours are smaller at this time and the six we have taken during the Intifada have had less than half the number of pilgrims we would normally expect. On the other hand, the tours are better in several respects. The Israelis are so delighted to accommodate us that they make a special effort to be good hosts. We go into restaurants that are almost empty and receive the best tables. We have the best rooms in the hotels. And, frankly, the people who come are those who support Israel the most, and that makes for a very pleasant and spiritual atmosphere on the tour.

But every one of our tours, even those to Orlando, Eureka Springs, etc., turn into scenes of fine fellowship. The tour groups become mishpocha, a family. Indeed, viewers of our program have so much in common that people from different areas and different age groups bond together like relatives (or even better, since they don’t have axes to grind before they arrive). I can especially recommend our “Bless Israel” Solidarity Tour, Saturday, July 13 at the Biblical Arts Center in Dallas, where you can check this out for yourself. In a single day you will meet other viewers and readers of ours who are of a like mind, and you will really enjoy yourself.

Even with all the present unrest in the Middle East, I foresee Israel entering a quieter time. Now that the pendulum has swung back toward a “peace conference,” probably things will settle down. October may be a very good time to go on a fall tour to Israel, and we are taking one from October 19 to November 9. Deposits sent to us are perfectly safe. We’ve not kept a dollar back from anyone in 30 years of leading tours and we have never cancelled a tour. Choose either an Israel-only package, or throw in optional excursions to Greece and Petra. The Greek cruise line is now offering us an expanded 7-day Mediterranean cruise that includes port calls throughout Greece and even into Turkey; this may be a one-time offering for us. This would make a nice tour all by itself. In addition, this year’s fall tour will be our 75th Israel tour and the Ministry of Tourism will be presenting us with an award and even a key to the city! We want to make this a gala tour and we’re planning special events to celebrate this milestone. What a delight it would be for 75 couples to join Sandra and me for this special time! For a full-color brochure, give Tony a call at 214-696-9760 or call 1-800-WONDERS anytime.

In the meantime, try to make it for our “Bless Israel” Solidarity Tour mentioned above. Just $49, this full day of teaching, worship and tours will leave you refreshed and excited about God’s Word and His work in Israel. Among other exhibits, the Miracle of Pentecost painting with its sound and light show will be a memorable highlight of this tour. We plan a catered lunch of native Israeli foods, and Dr. Ergun Caner will speak. Dr. Caner, featured three times on our television program, was a Moslem who found Christ and will clarify Islam for us. I will also be available to you all day on a face-to-face basis. This is an ever-popular tour, so make reservations early. Call Tony to reserve your spot.

The Lord is near. Bless you as you pray for the peace of Jerusalem!

And remember, Sha’alu Shalom Yerushalayim: pray for the peace of Jerusalem!

P.S. Our good friend in Israel, Dr. Gerald Schroeder, recently alerted me to a serious concern about American Airlines. His frequent flyer mileage statement lists his address as “Jerusalem, Held Territories.” This is outrageous! I urge you to call American Airlines at 1-800-433-7300 and let them know that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and always has been! Let us know their response and look for more on this in our upcoming Levitt Letter.
