Dear Friends:

As events come at us in this complex end-times environment, I jot down items that seem to pertain to prophecy in one way or another. But when it comes time to write to you, I sometimes have to deal with some very current happening, and the notes must watt. In this letter, however, I would like to catch up on some details of the recent past. Some of the items below are single facts, and some seem unrelated to prophecy except as they pertain to betrayal, advancing paganism, or simply the craziness expected as the Tribulation comes on.

The “President” of Syria was “reelected” in 1980 — the last “election” permitted in Syria — by 99.9% of the vote.

I am still recommending that everyone see Schindler’s List despite a letter or two concerning a “bedroom scene.” I went back to see the movie again and I discovered the problem involved one partially nude living body. I was somehow more impressed by the millions of dead, naked bodies.* What did the Lord say about straining at gnats…?

*If a man beget an hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years be many, and his soul be not filled with good, and also that he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he. ECCLESIASTES 6:3 KJV

There are 350,000 Holocaust survivors. Any of them are welcome to go free on our Israeli tours.

David Letterman will get paid $42 million to tell his jokes for the next three years. Someone estimated that the famine in Somalia could have been solved with $40 million.

John Madden, color man on NFL football broadcasts, receives $365,000 per game. Counting playoffs there are some 20 games per season. This involves about 60 hours of labor per year on the part of this worker.

This year was my first Italian Passover. I demonstrated the grand festival at the dinner table in the household of an Italian chef (a doctor on the side) who followed up the unleavened bread and bitter herbs with an amazing seafood linguini. I told him I felt safe staying at a doctor’s home with my heart trouble but the gastroenterologist said, “Oh you are – especially if you suddenly come down with an ulcer.”

Hebron, now famous for the solitary instance of an Israeli terrorist action, was the first Jewish city in the world. Abraham would be amazed to see who worships at his tomb on Fridays.

Arab terrorism is an old story. I learned recently that the reference to “the shores of Tripoli” in the Marine Corps Hymn was about hostages who were taken in that Libyan city. President Jefferson did not trade arms with them but sent in the Marines. Violence, barbarism and a primitive way of life was normal in the Middle East until the originals, the Israelis, returned in 1948.

The average prime-time television sitcom spends $750,000 per half-hour on production alone or about 150 times what we spend. Take your pick and please vote with your dollars.

According to CNN’s news program, Reliable Sources (April 3, 1994), every Sunday there are more Americans in church than attend all sports events put together for the entire year. CNN itself broadcasts almost no religious news whatsoever other than the occasional scandal.

I was told personally by an extremely high-ranking Israeli military official (a close adviser to Prime Minister Rabin) that, in his opinion, this “peace process” will not work out. I told him I had always suspected the same thing and I asked how it will all end. He said, “in a bloody showdown.” I asked him who would win, and he said confidently, “We are very strong.”

I don’t assume that my particular observations of the end times are that much more valid than anyone else’s, but I think our audience is used to alert observation of the unbelievers and their amazing world. We are not to be the children of darkness, asleep when He comes as a thief in the night (I Thes. 5:2).

This is a time when we can use your help as we go through taping and post-production of our new series “House of David.” We taped some footage on the March tour and will do some more on the May 29 – June 13 tour. If you want to check the Israeli situation for yourself, we will have an English-speaking West Bank settler traveling with us to give us information and security, as well as our usual well-informed teachers and speakers. The Summer Tour will feature our usual itinerary of Israel plus the cruise of the Mediterranean islands including Ephesus, Athens, Mars Hill, Corinth, etc. Brochures are available now. Please call Karen at (214) 690-1876 or 1-800-WONDERS.

God bless (’til His soon return!)
