  • 02:58 period, it's called Google Maps.
  • 02:59 That's how we find places now.
  • 03:01 Caleb: All right, cut to present day in the story back after
  • 03:04 World War I, the British took over most of the lands of the
  • 03:08 Ottoman Empire.
  • 03:10 They pretty much held dominion over the whole Middle East, and
  • 03:13 they were tasked by the League of Nations along with France to
  • 03:17 carve up territories of all these Arabian tribes.
  • 03:20 It would be more difficult than they originally thought.
  • 03:23 So Britain was tasked to carve up, let's say Israel,
  • 03:29 Transjordan, you know, Iraq would come out of Mesopotamia.
  • 03:34 A kingship would be established, Saudi Arabia, they got their own
  • 03:37 area sectioned off.
  • 03:38 The French would section off Syria and Lebanon.
  • 03:41 And so this British mandate was to make a home for the Jewish
  • 03:45 people, you know, in the Six-Day War when Israel was attacked by
  • 03:51 Jordan, they increased their land holdings, getting what's
  • 03:53 the West Bank territory today, and all this land is very
  • 03:57 important because the Jews originally on May 14, 1948 when
  • 04:01 they became a nation state got a much smaller territory than what
  • 04:04 the League of Nations originally intended for them.
  • 04:07 You know, we're gonna get into all this amazing stuff in
  • 04:10 this series.
  • 04:11 Join us at the very beginning, which is a very good place
  • 04:14 to start.
  • 04:15 Deuteronomy me 2, 17 through 19, "The Lord said to me,
  • 04:19 [Moses], 'Today you are going to pass by the region of Moab
  • 04:23 at Ar.
  • 04:24 When you come to the Ammonites, do not harass them or provoke
  • 04:27 them to war, for I will not give you possession of any land
  • 04:30 belonging to the Ammonites.
  • 04:32 I have given it as a possession to the descendants of Lot.'"
  • 04:36 Joshua: This is a very special and important series for us.
  • 04:40 As Joshua and Caleb, we have the opportunity to take you across
  • 04:43 the path of God delivering the Promised Land to the Israelites.
  • 04:48 Each step that they face will be one where they have to have
  • 04:50 faith, one where they have to overcome insurmountable odds.
  • 04:54 But when they choose to rely on him, he is going to make it
  • 04:57 happen every time.
  • 04:59 For both of us being named Joshua and Caleb, our whole
  • 05:01 lives have been centered around this concept.
  • 05:03 We were called and destined to take the land where our feet go.
  • 05:06 We claim for the Lord that we do not bow down to the kings of
  • 05:11 that time period, but we stand against sin.
  • 05:13 We stand against the lies.
  • 05:15 And so this is going to be an incredible series of which we
  • 05:18 get to show you God's faithfulness, and how it wasn't
  • 05:20 just then, but it's relevant today.
  • 05:23 Caleb: You know, back in 1444 is when the 12 spies were sent to
  • 05:27 spy up the land of Canaan.
  • 05:29 And as you know, only two came back with a good report, which
  • 05:33 is why our parents named us Joshua and Caleb to have that
  • 05:36 statement of faith.
  • 05:37 But because of the complaining and disobedience of the
  • 05:39 Israelites, everyone 20 and above died.
  • 05:43 Now, Caleb was 40 years old at that time.
  • 05:47 God allowed Joshua and Caleb to be the only person from that
  • 05:50 generations, the only people who would survive and would be
  • 05:52 allowed to enter the Promised Land.
  • 05:54 So cut 40 years later to 1407 BC is when God started to bring
  • 05:59 them back and to build up that army removing all those
  • 06:05 complainers from before and it was now their opportunity to
  • 06:09 step forward in faith and see the promises revealed.
  • 06:12 And so that's why it's important that we go through all these
  • 06:15 spots and, you know, retell the story in our own way, but
  • 06:21 following the biblical narrative.
  • 06:22 Deuteronomy 2, 24 through 25, "Sit out now and cross the
  • 06:27 Arnon Gorge.
  • 06:29 See, I've given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of
  • 06:32 Heshbon, and his country.
  • 06:34 Begin to take possession of it and engage him in battle.
  • 06:38 This very day I will begin to put the terror and fear of you
  • 06:41 on all the nations under heaven.
  • 06:43 They will hear reports of you and will tremble and be in
  • 06:47 anguish because of you."
  • 06:49 Joshua: I often think about this idea of like, what happens if
  • 06:52 you have a rich relative, maybe you know about it, maybe you
  • 06:55 don't, and they die and they leave you this big kingdom, this
  • 06:58 land, and you find out, right, they connect with you and they
  • 07:02 say, "Okay, you can have it, you just have to go get it."
  • 07:05 But the problem is there's another group on there and they
  • 07:09 want the land and they've been squat on the land so you're
  • 07:11 gonna have to get rid of them first.
  • 07:13 And this is kind of what the Israelites were having to deal
  • 07:15 with, right?
  • 07:16 God had said, "This is your land."
  • 07:17 He gifted it to him.
  • 07:19 He said, "This is what you gotta do."
  • 07:20 But you have this group that's big and strong with technology
  • 07:23 and supernatural powers and all this stuff, but God, if they
  • 07:27 would obey, was gonna use his mighty hand to take care of it.
  • 07:30 They just had to take that first step and act.
  • 07:32 Caleb: You know, most people, when they talk about the
  • 07:34 conquest of Canaan, they jump straight to the Battle of
  • 07:37 Jericho, completely oblivious that there's a lot of action to
  • 07:40 happen east of the Jordan River.
  • 07:42 You know, Reuben, Gad, and the half tribe of Manasseh had to
  • 07:44 receive their inheritance, but there are some big baddies that
  • 07:48 controlled the entire territory.
  • 07:49 One was King Sihon of Heshbon, and that's why we came
  • 07:53 here, Josh.
  • 07:54 This is Tall Hisban, the place where he ruled and held
  • 07:57 his dominion.
  • 07:59 Deuteronomy 2, 26 through 30.
  • 08:01 "From the desert of Kedemoth, I sent messengers to Sihon King of
  • 08:05 Heshbon offering peace and saying, 'Let us pass through
  • 08:09 your country.
  • 08:10 We will stay on the main road; we will not turn aside to the
  • 08:13 right or to the left.
  • 08:14 Sell us food to eat and water to drink for their price in silver.
  • 08:19 Only let us pass through on foot--as the descendants of
  • 08:22 Esau, who live in Seir and the Moabites, who live in Ar, did
  • 08:26 for us--until we cross the Jordan into the land the Lord
  • 08:30 our God is giving us.'
  • 08:32 But Sihon king of Heshbon refused to let us pass through.
  • 08:35 For the Lord your God had made his spirit stubborn and his
  • 08:39 heart obstinate in order to give him into your hands."
  • 08:43 I think the evidence here is very interesting that Satan
  • 08:46 throughout the ages tried to seek to hold dominion over
  • 08:49 territories and you see that 21 layers of civilization here and
  • 08:55 you have it all the way back from Canaanites and the Persians
  • 08:58 and Romans, Egyptians, going all the way up to modern Byzantine,
  • 09:03 you know, crusaders, Muslims, Mamluks.
  • 09:06 This was a hot spot, Josh.
  • 09:07 I mean, Saladin encamped here, Herod the Great in large and
  • 09:11 magnified this territory.
  • 09:12 King Solomon actually had some very interesting additions to
  • 09:16 this territory, but back to our story, because King Sihon had
  • 09:20 dominion with King Og, his buddy, over all the territory
  • 09:23 east of the Jordan River, going all the way up to Damascus and
  • 09:26 down, and the Israelites knew they would have to contend with
  • 09:30 him, but God said, you know, I'm gonna take this.
  • 09:33 I'm gonna glorify myself in this.
  • 09:35 Just ask permission first.
  • 09:36 So they go, you know, "Hey, we just wanna walk through your
  • 09:39 land on the king's highway."
  • 09:40 They hear this pompous, arrogant king see 600,000 Israelites
  • 09:44 coming, and he was not gonna let this fly.
  • 09:46 So this is what happened.
  • 09:48 Numbers 21:23.
  • 09:50 "But Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through
  • 09:52 his territory.
  • 09:54 So Sihon gathered all his people together and went out against
  • 09:57 Israel in the wilderness.
  • 09:58 And he came to Jahaz and fought against Israel."
  • 10:03 Deuteronomy 2:31, "The Lord said to me, [Moses], 'See, I have
  • 10:07 begun to deliver Sihon and his country over to you.
  • 10:11 Now begin to conquer and possess his land."
  • 10:15 You're in the Acropolis, Josh.
  • 10:17 You know, royalty like to show their opulence to impress
  • 10:20 people, dignitaries that would come in.
  • 10:22 There's Islamic bathhouses here, you know, where you'd be
  • 10:26 pampered and primped and relaxed, show a good time from
  • 10:31 the Aida and Mamluk period.
  • 10:33 So this was the area of Sihon's power, and I'm sure he had a
  • 10:37 formidable army to show and match his strength and his
  • 10:41 territory 'cause this dude had conquered all this territory
  • 10:46 from the Moabites, you know, he was already so powerful, so he
  • 10:49 was quite a match for the Israelite army as well.
  • 10:52 Joshua: I think the point is that God was requiring some
  • 10:55 faith out of these Israelites.
  • 10:57 Think about it.
  • 10:59 Every one of these guys that was there, guys and gals, they had
  • 11:01 already seen their parents die in the wilderness, right?
  • 11:03 That a whole generation had to die out because they lacked the
  • 11:05 faith, they kept complaining.
  • 11:07 So these guys were given a chance.
  • 11:08 Okay, are you going to do the same thing as your parents, or
  • 11:10 are you going to step up and rise up to the occasion?
  • 11:12 Caleb: That's right, and I love the words that God speaks to
  • 11:14 Moses to encourage him.
  • 11:16 Joshua: Deuteronomy 2:32 through 36.
  • 11:19 "Then Sihon and all his people came out against us to fight a
  • 11:22 Jahez, and the Lord our God delivered him over to us, so we
  • 11:26 defeated him, his sons and all his people.
  • 11:28 We took all his cities at that time, and we utterly destroyed
  • 11:31 the men, women and little ones of every city.
  • 11:34 We left no one remaining.
  • 11:35 We took only the livestock as plunder for ourselves, with the
  • 11:38 spoiled the cities which we took.
  • 11:40 From Aroer, which is on the bank of the River Arnon and from the
  • 11:43 city that is in the ravine, as far as Gilead, there was not one
  • 11:47 city too strong for us; the Lord our God delivered all to us."
  • 11:52 Caleb: You know, I find interesting, Josh, is after the
  • 11:55 Israelites conquered King Sihon, with Gods help they are
  • 11:58 victorious, they immediately could start living in the
  • 12:01 Ammorite cities.
  • 12:02 They were all built up.
  • 12:03 They didn't burn them to the ground.
  • 12:05 In fact, that's what the two tribes, Reuben, Gad, and half
  • 12:09 tribe of Manasseh requested that they could start residing in
  • 12:12 these villages.
  • 12:13 And so they were allowed to, but they didn't have to--they
  • 12:17 couldn't get all peaceful yet, they couldn't, you know, calm
  • 12:20 down because there's still one more monstrous royal king who
  • 12:25 ruled further to the north, his buddy of King Sihon, King Og,
  • 12:30 you know, King Og of Bashan.
  • 12:32 He is written throughout Scripture and through Jewish
  • 12:36 writings and Talmud and Midrash as being this formidable folks.
  • 12:40 He was actually said to have been the brother of King Sihon.
  • 12:43 We don't know if that's true or not, but he was a 14 ft tall
  • 12:47 giant, one of the last of Rephaim.
  • 12:49 So this was no walk in the park because he would not take kindly
  • 12:55 the news that King Sihon was killed by the Israelites.
  • 12:58 Joshua: Deuteronomy 3:1 through 5, "Next we turned and went up
  • 13:01 along the road toward Bashan, and Og King of Bashan with this
  • 13:05 whole army marched out to meet us in battle at Edrel.
  • 13:08 The Lord said to me, 'Do not be afraid of him, for I have
  • 13:11 delivered him into your hands, along with his whole army and
  • 13:14 his land.
  • 13:15 Do to him what he did to Sahon, King of the Amorites, who
  • 13:18 reigned in Heshbon.'
  • 13:19 So the Lord our God also gave into our hands Og king of Bashan
  • 13:23 and all of his army.
  • 13:24 We struck them down, leaving no survivors at the time we took
  • 13:29 all his cities.
  • 13:30 There was not one of the sixty cities that we did not take from
  • 13:33 them--the whole region of Argob, Og's kingdom in Bashan.
  • 13:37 All these cities were fortified with high walls and with gates
  • 13:40 and bars, and there were also a great many unwalled villages."
  • 13:44 Caleb: I don't know about you, Josh, but whenever I read that
  • 13:47 Scripture, I imagine this 120 year old Moses dealing the death
  • 13:52 blow, fighting King Og with his staff, you know, Moses's staff,
  • 13:56 wiping that giant out, and that's not too far from the
  • 13:59 truth, you know, because actually rabbinical commentaries
  • 14:02 declare that Moses did deal the killing blow to King Og.
  • 14:06 I won't put anything past him.
  • 14:07 He was the commander of the armies of Israel.
  • 14:10 And you see that there are sometimes that he was training
  • 14:12 and preparing Joshua to take over because during the Battle
  • 14:16 of Rephidim when they first came out of Egypt, and they were
  • 14:19 fighting the Amalekites, Moses stood on the hill with his arms
  • 14:22 up, you know, and they were having to hold the staff up
  • 14:25 while Joshua, his general, was fighting the Amalekites below
  • 14:28 and obtaining the victory.
  • 14:29 So that's what a good commander does.
  • 14:31 He prepares his soldiers in advance to take over for him
  • 14:34 after he's gone.
  • 14:35 Joshua: Well, I'm sure that it looked like in the surface to
  • 14:38 everybody, the 120 year old Moses was the one killing Og and
  • 14:40 the Israelites were the one killing all these giants, but
  • 14:42 let's all be real about this.
  • 14:44 It was God.
  • 14:45 Caleb: Yes, it was. Joshua: That did that.
  • 14:48 There's no way they could have done it on their own, and
  • 14:49 Scripture even says, right, that God's mighty hand was the one
  • 14:51 that came in there and did that, delivered them.
  • 14:54 It was because they were obedient to what God had asked
  • 14:56 them to do that he did, but he went when using them as his
  • 15:00 vessels to go in there and then wipe the land with them, so.
  • 15:04 Caleb: And boy, did they.
  • 15:06 Amos 2:9 through 10.
  • 15:08 "Yet I destroyed the Amorites before them, though they were
  • 15:11 tall as the cedars and strong as the oaks.
  • 15:15 I destroyed their fruit above and their roots below.
  • 15:18 I brought you up out of Egypt and led you forty years in the
  • 15:21 wilderness to give you the land of the Amorites."
  • 15:24 Joshua: Psalm 135:10 through 12, "He [Yahweh]
  • 15:27 struck down many nations and killed mighty kings--Sihon king
  • 15:31 of the Amorites, Og king of Bashan, and all the kings of
  • 15:34 Canaan--and he gave their land as an inheritance, an
  • 15:37 inheritance to His people Israel."
  • 15:39 Caleb: Here on this site of Tall Hisban, there's so many caves
  • 15:45 and cisterns and inside they found animal bones and pottery
  • 15:50 and all food staples, evidence of the civilizations that went
  • 15:54 through out here.
  • 15:56 It's very important that God gave the Israelites
  • 15:58 fortified cities.
  • 16:00 He surrendered them into their hands.
  • 16:01 They had large gates.
  • 16:02 All of them were massive in King Sihon and King Og's territory.
  • 16:06 so when they came in and they got, they were gift wrapped with
  • 16:08 all the food and staples that they already needed.
  • 16:10 Proverbs 13:22 declares, "The wealth of the wicked is stored
  • 16:13 up for the righteous."
  • 16:15 And man, God had everything ready for them.
  • 16:16 They just had to walk in and start camping out.
  • 16:19 Joshua: And they did.
  • 16:20 This was no small victory for the Israelites --
  • 16:22 Caleb: What he's getting there, how--
  • 16:24 Joshua: Like you said there's changes.
  • 16:25 I got curious.
  • 16:27 The land that they would capture was almost equal in size to the
  • 16:31 other half that they already had.
  • 16:33 Caleb: Oh, on the west side of the river.
  • 16:34 Joshua: On the west side, to the east side to the west side,
  • 16:36 almost the same size, and it was only gonna take them four months
  • 16:38 to accomplish this.
  • 16:40 That's a huge deal.
  • 16:41 Caleb: That was like lightning fast conquering speed, but it's
  • 16:44 very interesting, Josh, the story of Rahab, which we're
  • 16:48 gonna get into in the next episode, Rahab the Harlot, when
  • 16:52 she makes this statement or declaration of faith to the two
  • 16:56 spies, it reveals just how powerful King Sihon and King Og
  • 17:01 was, and I wanna read that to you because it just shows how
  • 17:05 God was with the Israelites to open the door for them to enter
  • 17:08 and obtain their inheritance.
  • 17:09 Rahab says in Joshua 2:9 through 11, "I know that the Lord has
  • 17:13 given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us,
  • 17:16 and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted
  • 17:19 because of you.
  • 17:20 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red
  • 17:22 Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the
  • 17:25 two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of
  • 17:27 Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
  • 17:30 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted;
  • 17:33 neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because
  • 17:36 of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on
  • 17:42 the earth beneath."
  • 17:44 Caleb: But the story is not over yet, because the Israelites have
  • 17:49 more conquering to do, and Satan tries his hand at conquering
  • 17:52 Canaan before the Israelites would ever step foot into
  • 17:55 the land.
  • 17:56 It actually goes back all the way to the time of Abraham after
  • 17:59 the moment that God made the covenant with him to gift wrap
  • 18:02 this land to the Israelites.
  • 18:04 But to tell that story, we're gonna have to go to the Dead Sea

  • 19:18 Gomorrah, the king of Admah, the king of Zeboyim, and the king of
  • 19:21 Bela, [that is, Zoar]
  • 19:22 marched out and drew up their battle lines in a valley Siddim
  • 19:25 against Kedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Goyim,
  • 19:29 Amraphel king of Shinar and Arioch king of Ellasar--four
  • 19:34 kings against five."
  • 19:38 Caleb: This is not a fun place to be, Shoshannah.
  • 19:41 Hey guys, guess what? Josh is sick.
  • 19:44 Yes, he is.
  • 19:45 He's throwing up at the hotel.
  • 19:47 That's why I had my trusty daughter Shoshannah, you may
  • 19:49 have seen her online, the social media videos that we've made,
  • 19:52 and she's here to talk about sin.
  • 19:55 Shoshannah Colson: Yeah, dad, why exactly are we here?
  • 19:59 What happened here?
  • 20:00 Caleb: Yeah, I see all the rocks, I mean, can't you pick
  • 20:02 out exactly what this site is?
  • 20:04 You really can't.
  • 20:05 It just looks like mounds and mounds of rocks.
  • 20:07 These rocks used to form a tell, a perimeter, a wall.
  • 20:10 There's a city here.
  • 20:11 This is Bab edh-Dhra, which is the biblical site of Sodom, and
  • 20:15 as you can see, it was annihilated.
  • 20:19 Josh is calling.
  • 20:21 I think he's doing better.
  • 20:24 Yeah, Josh.
  • 20:25 Joshua: Are you serious?
  • 20:26 You left without me already?
  • 20:28 Like, you're there?
  • 20:30 Caleb: Yeah, we made it.
  • 20:32 See, we're in Sodom doesn't look like, no.
  • 20:35 Joshua: I need to give you the lowdown of Sodom before
  • 20:38 Shoshannah says something way too smart for everybody
  • 20:40 to understand.
  • 20:41 Caleb: All right, Josh wants to give his take what happened
  • 20:45 in Sodom.
  • 20:46 Joshua: That's right.
  • 20:48 Sodom was the sin city, original sin city before you could buy it
  • 20:52 at slot machines in Nevada.
  • 20:55 No, sir, it was a sin riddled with disgusting, abominative
  • 20:59 things that the Lord had to wipe off the planet because their
  • 21:04 filthy homosexuality, philandering.
  • 21:07 Caleb: Josh, this is a family show.
  • 21:09 Joshua: So sorry. Forgive me.
  • 21:12 I will give you the PG version for Shoshannah's sake.
  • 21:14 It's real bad.
  • 21:16 Caleb: Okay, yes, this was a sin hole, a hive of homosexuality,
  • 21:20 sexual morality, perversion.
  • 21:22 Yes, God wiped it out because of that, but there's more that
  • 21:25 happened here why he brought us here.
  • 21:26 Shoshannah: And what is that?
  • 21:28 Is it something like great battle or something
  • 21:29 really interesting?
  • 21:31 Caleb: See, my oldest daughter knows me well.
  • 21:32 I don't wanna go to places because of sin.
  • 21:34 I wanna go to places because of warfare.
  • 21:37 In fact, there was great battle that was fought here in the
  • 21:40 plains called the Valley of Siddim, this valley that used to
  • 21:44 be so fertile and lush, and there are five kings that
  • 21:47 rebelled against four kings of Mesopotamia and a great conflict
  • 21:51 happened here.
  • 21:53 Listen to this Scripture.
  • 21:54 Genesis 14:10 through 11, "Now the valley of Siddim was full of
  • 21:58 tar pits, and when the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, some of
  • 22:01 the men fell unto them, and the rest fled to the hills.
  • 22:05 The four kings seized all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and
  • 22:08 all their food; then they went away.
  • 22:10 They also carried off Abram's nephew Lot and his possessions,
  • 22:15 since he was living in Sodom."
  • 22:18 Look at that, Josh.
  • 22:20 Yeah, sucks to be a lot here.
  • 22:23 Joshua: Dude that is dumb.
  • 22:24 Lot is just dumb.
  • 22:25 Caleb: So everybody was camped out here in Sodom and of course,
  • 22:29 they got taken captive when this King Kedorlaomer and his four
  • 22:33 buddies, you know, their four total come and they capture
  • 22:37 everybody, they defeat everybody.
  • 22:38 They take Lot captive.
  • 22:40 They're going all the way up there ending up all the way to
  • 22:43 the tribe of dance territory in the future, but it's interesting
  • 22:47 'cause it says here that Abraham, he was very concerned,
  • 22:50 still loving his nephew Lot.
  • 22:52 He gathers 318 of his fellow workers, they're servants,
  • 22:57 they're not soldiers, and they decide to hike, run, whatever it
  • 23:01 takes the entire length of Israel.
  • 23:04 This is a long, I mean, all the way up to Dan from here, it's
  • 23:07 not an easy path, but he wanted to save his nephew Lot and he
  • 23:11 was gonna take on the most powerful conglomerate army in
  • 23:15 the world.
  • 23:17 Joshua: Take that everybody that makes fun of boomers.
  • 23:19 Old dudes can completely take care of their own.
  • 23:24 Caleb: Yeah, that's right, Josh.
  • 23:26 You read that Scripture.
  • 23:28 Joshua: Genesis 14:14 through 17.
  • 23:30 "When Abraham heard that his relative had been taken captive,
  • 23:33 he called out the 318 trained men born in his household and
  • 23:37 went in pursuit as far as Dan.
  • 23:40 During the night, Abram divided his men to attack them.
  • 23:43 And routed them, pursuing them as far as Hobah, north
  • 23:47 of Damascus.
  • 23:49 He recovered all the goods and brought back his relative Lot
  • 23:51 and his possessions, together with the women and the
  • 23:54 other people.
  • 23:55 After Abram returned from defeating Kedorlaomer and the
  • 23:58 kings allied with him, the king of Sodom came out to meet him in
  • 24:01 the valley of Shaveh [that is, the king's valley].
  • 24:05 Caleb: Wow.
  • 24:06 Look at this.
  • 24:08 That is crazy, but what's even crazier is what Abraham pulled
  • 24:12 off in that story.
  • 24:13 Shoshannah: Yeah, no, Dad, this is insane.
  • 24:15 Abraham with 318 men go and take on four kings with their whole
  • 24:20 armies in the middle of the night, and these four armies
  • 24:23 just defeated five kings.
  • 24:25 We know they're really strong.
  • 24:26 Like they got to be some really powerful kings, like really
  • 24:29 powerful stuff.
  • 24:30 And then Abraham, just with 318 people, go and take over, like
  • 24:34 chase them off in the middle of the night.
  • 24:36 Like that's insane.
  • 24:38 Caleb: It is very insane for an old guy.
  • 24:39 Joshua: I have something to say.
  • 24:42 Caleb: Yes, Josh.
  • 24:43 Joshua: Look at this map on the screen.
  • 24:45 Okay, you see this right here?
  • 24:46 Abraham intercepted the armies around the Dead Sea.
  • 24:50 That's the one that's dead.
  • 24:51 He chased them all the way here to Dan.
  • 24:55 And then even past Damascus in Syria, which I have been to as
  • 25:00 one angry uncle.
  • 25:01 Now look, you don't mess with father Abraham.
  • 25:03 Now, father Abraham had many sons, and many sons had
  • 25:05 father Abraham.
  • 25:07 I mean, that dude was like at least 75, if not more, making
  • 25:11 it happen.
  • 25:13 Caleb: Well, that's true, but back to these kings, there's
  • 25:16 something special about these kings because before they fought
  • 25:20 Sodom and Gomorrah, which was their original intention because
  • 25:22 of these vassal states that rebelled, they went on an ethnic
  • 25:26 cleansing spree, guys.
  • 25:27 They went around and started wiping out giant races all over
  • 25:31 Canaan, and you're scratching your head.
  • 25:32 Why were they so intent on wiping out the giants before
  • 25:35 they took out the rebels?
  • 25:37 I think it's interesting because there's so many historical
  • 25:39 accounts that link these Mesopotamian kings as also being
  • 25:42 giants themselves, as in Nimrod was one of these kings.
  • 25:46 We can go into more of that in a different series, but what's
  • 25:50 important to see here is that these kings were taking out the
  • 25:53 giants and these giants are a very specific purpose,
  • 25:57 geography, races that God wanted to cleanse and so it's evil
  • 26:01 killing evil here.
  • 26:02 The Scripture says, Genesis 14:5 through 7, "Kedorlaomer and the
  • 26:07 kings allied with him went out and defeated the Rephaites in
  • 26:10 Ashteroth Karnaim, the Zuzites in Ham, the Emites in Shaveh
  • 26:14 Kiriathaim and the Horites in the hill country of Seir as far
  • 26:18 as El Paran near the desert.
  • 26:20 Then they turned back and went to En Mishpat [that is, Kadesh],
  • 26:23 they conquered the whole territory of the Amalekites as
  • 26:26 well as the Amorites who were living in Hazezon Tamar."
  • 26:30 You know, the story is clear, guys.
  • 26:32 God allowed a way to clear out the land of the Canaanites, to
  • 26:36 clear out the giants before the Israelites would ever
  • 26:40 come there.
  • 26:41 In Scripture we read about how the Amorites and the Nephilim
  • 26:44 had kind of intermingled together, Shoshannah.
  • 26:46 Genesis 15 tells us specifically when God was giving the covenant
  • 26:49 to Abraham that he would give them 400 years to repent.
  • 26:53 It says so in Genesis 15:13 through 16.
  • 26:55 "Then He said to Abram: 'Know certainly that your descendants
  • 26:58 will be strangers in a land that is not theirs [Egypt], and will
  • 27:01 serve them, and they will afflict them four hundred years.
  • 27:04 And also the nation whom they serve, I will judge; afterward
  • 27:07 they shall come out with great possessions.
  • 27:09 Now as for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall
  • 27:13 be buried at a good old age.
  • 27:14 But in the fourth generation they shall return here, for the
  • 27:17 iniquity of the Emites is not yet complete."
  • 27:20 Joshua: I know that when people talk about God in the Old
  • 27:21 Testament, they use Scriptures like this, like God said to
  • 27:24 kill everybody.
  • 27:25 Look, he's a mean, terrible God, but these people that we're
  • 27:28 talking about were not just people.
  • 27:30 These were the Nephilim.
  • 27:32 They had demon blood in them.
  • 27:34 These are the hybrids spoken about in Genesis 6 where those
  • 27:37 fallen angels came down, and they procreated with women
  • 27:40 on earth.
  • 27:42 God went to such great lengths to wipe out all of these evil
  • 27:46 hybrid creatures with this demonic DNA in them so that the
  • 27:50 Israelites could flourish in the land that he promised in the
  • 27:53 land of Canaan for them without that demonic interference.
  • 27:58 Caleb: That's right, guys, don't forget as you go, Sha'alu
  • 28:01 shalom Yerushalayim.
  • 28:03 Joshua: Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
  • 28:06 Joshua: Did you know the "Bearded Bible Brothers" is an
