Faithful and Wicked Servants

Yeshua repeated the theme of faithful and wicked servants, especially in the signs of His coming in Matthew 24:45–51 and Mark 13:32–37. The faithful servant watches for the Master’s arrival while obeying His commands, but the wicked servant who watches not, becomes ungodly and faces eternal damnation.

Caption transcript for Watch Therefore and Be Ready: “Faithful and Wicked Servants” (8/8)

  • 00:05 Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved,
  • 00:12 for there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek,
  • 00:15 for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him.
  • 00:39 Welcome to Zola Levitt Presents,
  • 00:41 I'm Kirsten Hart.
  • 00:42 And I am David Hart
  • 00:43 This is the last program in our series,
  • 00:45 "Watch Therefore"
  • 00:47 And we end today with a strong Gospel message.
  • 00:50 And we also end with a question,
  • 00:52 What are we to be doing until Messiah returns?
  • 00:57 To answer that question we have
  • 00:59 Dov Schwarz on location in Israel.
  • 01:01 We have Dr. Mark Hitchcock who will
  • 01:04 be with us here in the studio.
  • 01:05 Bible Prophetic Experts will also be here.
  • 01:08 It's a full show.
  • 01:10 And again we have our last "Shalom Havarim" Hebrew Lesson for this series.
  • 01:16 How are we supposed to watch for Yeshua's return?
  • 01:19 Let's go to Dov Schwarz right now on location.
  • 01:30 The message of the hour
  • 01:32 from our Messiah Jesus
  • 01:35 is "Watch therefore and be ready"
  • 01:38 That's what He says in Matthew chapter 24 beginning at verse 42.
  • 02:09 Now there's an old saying for those who read the Bible.
  • 02:13 A Bible interpretation concept when you see the word "therefore"
  • 02:17 you see what its there for.
  • 02:20 In this chapter Messiah Yeshua has been discussing:
  • 02:25 4 birth pains
  • 02:27 and 2 primary signs
  • 02:30 that show us these are
  • 02:31 the end of the end times
  • 02:33 that heads into the Great Tribulation
  • 02:35 and will culminate with the King, the Messiah Yeshua coming
  • 02:39 to sit on the Throne of David in Jerusalem.
  • 02:44 And so we know that the rapture,
  • 02:47 the snatching away of the Saints
  • 02:49 could happen at any time.
  • 02:51 And the message then is "Watch therefore and be ready".
  • 02:59 The days of Noah,
  • 03:00 the rebirth of Israel physically,
  • 03:03 looking forward to the spiritual birth of Israel.
  • 03:06 All of these things are at play here
  • 03:08 when Messiah Yeshua says "Watch therefore and be ready."
  • 03:11 So here's a really good question.
  • 03:13 A friend just asked it a little while ago to me.
  • 03:17 He said, How do I watch therefore?
  • 03:20 How do I get ready?
  • 03:22 Our great Messiah Yeshua did not leave that unanswered.
  • 03:26 And He goes into verse 46 of Matthew 24,
  • 03:37 I want to be blessed.
  • 03:38 Do you want to be blessed?
  • 03:40 Well back up a verse
  • 03:57 WOW! I want to be the blessed and the faithful and the wise servant.
  • 04:02 What is he doing?
  • 04:04 This teaches us how to watch therefore.
  • 04:06 What is he doing?
  • 04:08 He's watching for the Master to come and he's
  • 04:11 doing what the Master commanded.
  • 04:15 I'll say it again.
  • 04:16 He's watching for the Master to come
  • 04:19 and he's doing what the Master commanded.
  • 04:22 And we'll dig a little deeper
  • 04:24 and we'll find out just what that means in just a moment.
  • 04:28 Don't go away.
  • 04:35 I believe that sometimes prophecy has an event
  • 04:40 that overshadows forward,
  • 04:43 like a cloud approaching.
  • 04:45 And the cloud will shadow the Land
  • 04:48 before the storm or the rain actually gets there.
  • 04:50 I see that, Luke 21:24,
  • 04:53 the reclamation of Jerusalem as the mark, a message to the world
  • 04:59 that Jerusalem specifically
  • 05:01 is now back under the control of the Jewish people.
  • 05:04 And where is the Messiah going to present Himself to them?
  • 05:08 Jerusalem
  • 05:10 Them being back in control of Jerusalem is prophetic,
  • 05:13 "as all get out", as we say in Tennessee.
  • 05:15 They're there to now receive and see
  • 05:18 this Messiah that's going to present Himself on the Mount of Olives.
  • 05:25 The Jewish people are now thriving back in the Holy Land.
  • 05:30 And here's more of that with our good friend Chaim Malespin.
  • 05:45 L'Chaim ! To Life!
  • 05:47 That's my name, "Chaim".
  • 05:48 I love raising a cheer and saying,
  • 05:52 Be of good cheer because God is
  • 05:53 bringing life from death.
  • 05:55 This whole Land was dead, desolate.
  • 05:57 Mark Twain talks about it.
  • 05:58 You know, even an animal couldn't live here because
  • 06:02 all this was rocks.
  • 06:03 We know that even in the Dead Sea
  • 06:06 it will come to life.
  • 06:07 Fish, multitudes of kinds of fish will be here.
  • 06:09 Ezekiel 47 talks about this,
  • 06:11 about the water flowing here and
  • 06:13 turning this into new life.
  • 06:16 I thank God that together the family Jew and Gentile
  • 06:19 are being used to flow in that river of life
  • 06:22 to bring life everywhere we go.
  • 06:24 And part of God's restoration plans
  • 06:27 is a ripple to pour His Spirit on all nations, on all flesh.
  • 06:32 We are part of that,
  • 06:33 and it's exciting.
  • 06:34 What I want to say is even as God brings life to the desert,
  • 06:37 they're blooming dates and flowers.
  • 06:40 The Isaiah 35:1 is happening
  • 06:44 and we together can be part of that.

  • 07:54 "Watch Therefore and Be Ready"
  • 07:58 We'll return to the program in just a moment
  • 08:00 but first I wanted to ask if you've ever thought about
  • 08:03 what it takes to put this program together.
  • 08:06 I can assure you it's a lot more than just lights, camera, action.
  • 08:10 There's a lot of prayer and planning.
  • 08:13 Our family is a lot like yours,
  • 08:15 we pray and we plan,
  • 08:17 and we hope that you'll be praying for us,
  • 08:20 and planning to help support us too.
  • 08:35 We've got an uphill battle
  • 08:37 because we live in a sound bite, tweeting culture,
  • 08:41 but if we can encourage people to get back in the Word of God,
  • 08:46 it really does mold and shape you.
  • 08:48 the Bible is the Lamp to our feet and a Light to our path.
  • 08:50 it's the only standard for our beliefs, attitudes and practices.
  • 08:53 It's the stake in the ground
  • 08:55 in a very shifting world.
  • 08:59 A lot of times people like the unknown,
  • 09:02 something that was hid,
  • 09:03 like the Da Vinci Code.
  • 09:04 The reason why it was so popular is
  • 09:06 because it's a mystery.
  • 09:07 people want to know what the Church hid from me?
  • 09:10 No, there's no mystery.
  • 09:12 Everything God has given us is in the Word of God.
  • 09:14 I tell people all the time,
  • 09:15 the Bible says that in the latter days that
  • 09:17 men would not endure sound doctrine.
  • 09:20 The Word of God is our Foundation,
  • 09:22 it's the boundaries that God has set.
  • 09:24 If we stay in those boundaries, you'll never go astray,
  • 09:27 But the problem is people going outside of the Word of God.
  • 09:30 They want extra biblical things,
  • 09:32 and as they do that it creates major problems.
  • 09:40 People ask, So if I'm supposed to watch therefore and be ready
  • 09:44 how do I do that?
  • 09:46 Well, our Messiah Yeshua tells us be the wise and faithful servant.
  • 09:50 He's watching for the Master to come
  • 09:52 and he's doing what the Master commanded.
  • 09:55 What do I mean watch for him to come?
  • 09:57 It means that we're eagerly waiting, as the Bible says,
  • 10:01 for our Messiah to come from heaven.
  • 10:04 It's that we don't love this world.
  • 10:06 We live in the world, we love people in this world
  • 10:08 but we're not in love with this world.
  • 10:10 The Bible says,
  • 10:24 because there's a new time coming when Messiah Yeshua comes
  • 10:27 to start the Messianic Age when He will rule the world.
  • 10:30 It will be a completely different system.
  • 10:32 So we need to in our hearts be watching for Him to come.
  • 10:36 And then, we want to be pleasing to Him.
  • 10:38 How do we do that?
  • 10:40 Well He says in Matthew 24, in the passage we just read,
  • 10:48 What does this mean?
  • 10:49 Well what did Messiah Yeshua tell Peter
  • 10:52 when He asked him, Do you love me?
  • 10:54 And Peter said, Yeah.
  • 10:55 And He said, Well then
  • 10:56 feed my sheep... feed my sheep.
  • 10:59 What are we to do?
  • 11:01 We're to think of others in the body of Messiah
  • 11:03 and how we can bless them,
  • 11:05 how we can use our spiritual gift in the body of Messiah speaking, or serving.
  • 11:10 We need to learn the Word as it pertains to that.
  • 11:12 We need to love people.
  • 11:14 We need to love Messiah Yeshua with all of our heart
  • 11:16 and love our neighbor as ourself.
  • 11:18 We need to remember He's coming.
  • 11:20 And I want to go His way not my way.
  • 11:24 That's what the faithful servant does.
  • 11:27 In English there's kind of an acronym for this.
  • 11:30 It's the word "JOY"
  • 11:35 That's the order we're to go in.
  • 11:37 Messiah Yeshua is first in my heart,
  • 11:40 then other people
  • 11:41 and I'm last.
  • 11:42 That's the heart of a servant.
  • 11:45 I never forgot when a pastor said this.
  • 11:47 It stuck with me through the years.
  • 11:49 He said, you know you have a heart of a servant when
  • 11:52 someone treats you like one
  • 11:54 and that'll be okay with you.
  • 11:56 WOW! Right?
  • 11:58 Yeah, that's the heart of a servant.
  • 12:01 And we want to as the world is becoming
  • 12:05 so hard and so harsh and so angry,
  • 12:08 sometimes even in the body of Messiah it's just hard to get along.
  • 12:12 No, we should be about loving,
  • 12:16 loving Messiah, loving people,
  • 12:20 looking for Him to come
  • 12:22 and feeding each other His wonderful Word.
  • 12:26 The faithful servant is watching for the Master to come
  • 12:30 and doing what the Master commanded.
  • 12:33 Now there's another servant by great contrast, the wicked servant.
  • 12:36 We'll look at him in just a moment.
  • 12:41 And I'm confident you'll agree
  • 12:42 we need to be the faithful and wise servant.
  • 12:59 Isaiah 14:1 says it clearly,
  • 13:01 The Lord will bring them back
  • 13:03 to settle once again in their own Land,
  • 13:05 and people from many nations will come and join them there
  • 13:08 and unite with the people of Israel.
  • 13:10 That's exactly what's happening
  • 13:12 at the Aliyah Return Center in Galilee, Israel.
  • 13:15 We invite you to partner with us
  • 13:16 in helping to renovate this abandoned boarding school
  • 13:19 into a place where Jewish people
  • 13:21 from around the world will be welcomed home.
  • 13:28 Let's work together for Israel
  • 13:30 and witness the fulfillment
  • 13:32 of Isaiah's prophecy.

  • 14:38 in Israel on this program,
  • 14:40 you can actually see for yourself.
  • 14:43 Remember when our boys were younger?
  • 14:45 We used to tell them,
  • 14:46 You're going to love to travel,
  • 14:47 and you'll experience new places,
  • 14:49 and I remember they'd always say
  • 14:51 we can see it on our computer.
  • 14:53 Well there's nothing like
  • 14:54 smelling, hearing the sounds, and
  • 14:57 experiencing it for yourself.
  • 14:59 That's right
  • 14:59 We have tours twice a year
  • 15:01 both in the Fall and the Spring.
  • 15:03 You can find all of the information on levitt.com
  • 15:05 Now let's go learn some more Hebrew.
  • 15:14 Shalom Haverim
  • 15:16 We're here in the City of Jerusalem.
  • 15:18 Now one of the words you might hear around
  • 15:21 is the word Sababa
  • 15:23 It's actually not really a Hebrew word,
  • 15:26 it's more of a slang expression,
  • 15:28 and it means "Cool",
  • 15:29 like, "Everything's cool."
  • 15:31 So if somebody says, How are you?
  • 15:34 You can say, Sababa , I'm cool.
  • 15:37 Now sometimes you'll hear the younger generation
  • 15:40 say this, Ba Sababa
  • 15:42 which means, "in my cool".
  • 15:45 So if somebody says, Hey, can you do this for me?
  • 15:48 You could say, Ba Sababa , Sure, I'm cool with that.
  • 15:54 Sababa !
  • 15:56 That's when you're learning Hebrew slang
  • 15:58 on Zola Levitt Presents.
  • 16:00 That's right, you know what I say?
  • 16:01 You watching today Sababa !
  • 16:03 You're "Cool", you're awesome!
  • 16:05 Our son that lives in Israel,
  • 16:07 the other night I said, What are you doing tonight?
  • 16:09 He said, we're going down to the Dead Sea to hang out, and I
  • 16:11 !think I wrote back, I said, Sababa !, man that's awesome!
  • 16:15 Very cool.
  • 16:15 That's cool!
  • 16:17 And I love that in Hebrew you don't have to worry about
  • 16:19 the long "A" sound, the short "A",
  • 16:21 There's just one, it's "ah".
  • 16:22 So, sah bah bah.
  • 16:24 Isn't that sababa ?
  • 16:26 That's right.
  • 16:27 Now let's go back to Dov Schwarz in Israel.
  • 16:35 We're talking about 2 servants.
  • 16:38 One is watching for his master Mashiach Yeshua to come for His people.
  • 16:45 He's the wise and faithful servant.
  • 16:47 The other, Messiah calls him the wicked servant.
  • 16:52 Matthew 24, beginning in verse 48,
  • 17:01 Well, let's stop there.
  • 17:03 This servant isn't watching for the master to come
  • 17:05 and doesn't believe he could come today.
  • 17:19 So we see the evil servant, the wicked servant.
  • 17:22 He's not watching for the master to come. Why?
  • 17:24 He doesn't want the master to return.
  • 17:27 He's having too good of a time loving the world and becoming dark in his heart,
  • 17:35 and coming against those who are the faithful servant
  • 17:38 who are watching for the master to return.
  • 17:41 Well, it says here that he's going to be very surprised on that day.
  • 17:48 Verse 51 says,
  • 17:58 Where does the evil servant go?
  • 18:02 The prophet Isaiah, " Yeshaayahu ",
  • 18:05 He said there was a place where the worm dieth not and the fire is not quenched.
  • 18:12 Messiah Yeshua warned about this place.
  • 18:16 The Hebrew word for it is " Gehinnom ".
  • 18:19 We know it in English as "Hell".
  • 18:23 Hell will be a real place where the evil servant,
  • 18:29 where those who are not part of the body of Messiah will go.
  • 18:34 And so, what's the answer here?
  • 18:39 Here's a question to get to that answer.
  • 18:41 How many servants are there?
  • 18:44 There's a faithful servant and an evil servant.
  • 18:48 It'd be great if there was another servant who was kind of the okay servant.
  • 18:52 But that's not what I see here.
  • 18:56 The answer to know that you know that you know
  • 19:00 that you're not going to wind up in this place that the Lord warns us about
  • 19:07 is to be the wise and faithful servant
  • 19:10 just watching for the Master to come
  • 19:12 and doing what the Master commanded.
  • 19:15 It starts by having a relationship with the Master,
  • 19:18 receiving Messiah Yeshua who died on the cross for our sins, was buried
  • 19:23 and here's a great Hebrew word - Hallelujah
  • 19:26 He rose from the grave!
  • 19:27 Call upon His Name
  • 19:29 and be the wise and faithful servant.
  • 19:41 Well, this is the last program in
  • 19:43 this series with Dr. Hitchcock.
  • 19:45 We're so glad that you've been with us.
  • 19:47 I think we could go for days talking with you,
  • 19:51 having questions and answers, but
  • 19:53 is there any way you could tie up this series for us today?
  • 19:57 Well I hope so.
  • 19:59 We've covered a lot of ground in these programs.
  • 20:02 We started out talking about Covenants, how
  • 20:04 God is a covenant making, Covenant keeping God.
  • 20:07 All the way back to Genesis 12 - 15
  • 20:09 God makes this covenant with Abraham,
  • 20:11 with the descendants of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
  • 20:13 He promises the Land.
  • 20:15 He promises Abraham descendants, and
  • 20:17 he promises Abraham that through his descendants
  • 20:19 all the nations of the earth will be blessed.
  • 20:22 That's really kind of everything you have in the Bible,
  • 20:24 really there in a nutshell.
  • 20:26 Everything else pretty much then in
  • 20:27 the rest of Scripture comes out of that.
  • 20:29 We've looked at a lot of prophesies
  • 20:31 along the way, through Scripture.
  • 20:33 We've gone all the way to the Millennial Kingdom,
  • 20:36 to Messiah's Kingdom, when He ultimately will come again.
  • 20:39 He came the first time to bear our sins,
  • 20:41 to be the "Suffering Servant",
  • 20:42 but He's coming back again as "The Sovereign".
  • 20:45 He's going to Rule and Reign.
  • 20:47 One of the things I like about this
  • 20:49 is it tells us the whole Bible is cohesive,
  • 20:52 it fits together,
  • 20:54 and it shows us that God has a plan,
  • 20:56 that God made these promises to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
  • 20:59 and He's going to fulfill those some day in the Millennium.
  • 21:01 They're going to get that Land.
  • 21:03 They're going to have the descendants who will be there.
  • 21:06 They're going to be a blessing to the whole earth.
  • 21:08 God is going to fulfill the New Covenant in Jeremiah Chapter 31,
  • 21:11 that we talked about a few weeks ago.
  • 21:13 So God has a plan for this world, for this universe,
  • 21:17 and it's comforting to me that if God has a plan for the whole universe,
  • 21:21 and if He can control all of the details and intricacies of that,
  • 21:25 then surely He can control my life and the details,
  • 21:28 and He has a plan for me,
  • 21:30 and He has a plan for everyone who's watching.
  • 21:31 And how could you not be excited about that?
  • 21:33 Sure
  • 21:34 Right, it's good news.
  • 21:36 I think so many times, speaking and teaching
  • 21:40 about the prophetic, it scares people,
  • 21:43 because it's doom and gloom.
  • 21:45 That will be just a short period of time.
  • 21:48 Right.
  • 21:49 Yes, it will be horrible,
  • 21:50 yes, so much will happen, but
  • 21:52 it won't be forever.
  • 21:54 The good news is that He is coming again,
  • 21:57 and will start that Millennial Reign.
  • 21:59 That's right, and it's beautiful to see
  • 22:02 all those prophesies fit together,
  • 22:03 all the prophesies of Messiah's first coming
  • 22:05 that will fulfill, literally fulfill,
  • 22:07 and how these prophesies of His Second Coming will be literally fulfilled.
  • 22:11 And God is going to keep His promises
  • 22:13 to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob,
  • 22:14 and I think that's very important
  • 22:16 because a lot of people I think sometimes think,
  • 22:17 What's the big deal about the Jewish people, these prophesies?
  • 22:21 How does that relate to me?
  • 22:23 It's very important because God is a Covenant Keeping God.
  • 22:25 He is Sovereign God, but He is faithful.
  • 22:28 And if God is not faithful to His promises to Israel
  • 22:31 then what hope do we have that He is
  • 22:33 going to be faithful to His promises to us?
  • 22:35 Right.
  • 22:36 So, all of our promises and the fulfillment of those hinge on
  • 22:39 whether God has been faithful and will be
  • 22:41 faithful to His promises to Israel.
  • 22:43 That's why when people spiritualize the promises to Israel
  • 22:46 or kind of pass them off or just kind of merge them
  • 22:49 into other places in Scripture,
  • 22:51 I think that's dangerous because
  • 22:53 again, we believe the prophesies about
  • 22:55 our future are going to be literally fulfilled.
  • 22:58 Literal Heaven, literally be with the Lord.
  • 23:00 We need to take those prophesies I think the same way.
  • 23:03 God is faithful.
  • 23:05 If He's not then nothing really matters.
  • 23:10 We really feel your heart for
  • 23:11 Israel also, like we do.
  • 23:13 And that's why we have this wonderful book.
  • 23:15 We have a gift in our hands
  • 23:17 when we open that up to study,
  • 23:19 to watch therefore
  • 23:21 Right.
  • 23:22 That God has said, look I have done this, this, this, this...
  • 23:26 I will do that.
  • 23:28 And the good is coming.
  • 23:30 He is coming again,
  • 23:32 but we can't just give up.
  • 23:34 We need to keep watching.
  • 23:35 Well that's right,
  • 23:36 and the greatest gift in this Book that's a gift to us
  • 23:38 is the Lord Jesus.
  • 23:40 And we don't want to end this series
  • 23:42 without giving someone there
  • 23:43 who's maybe listening
  • 23:44 who doesn't know Christ as their Savior,
  • 23:45 the opportunity to receive Him.
  • 23:47 Amen
  • 23:48 I love that verse that says that
  • 23:49 God made Him that knew no sin,
  • 23:50 to be sin for us,
  • 23:51 so that we could become
  • 23:52 the righteousness of God in Him.
  • 23:54 Jesus was our sin bearer.
  • 23:55 He took all my sin.
  • 23:57 Whenever I believe in Him then I get all of His righteousness.
  • 23:59 And that's the greatest news in the world.
  • 24:01 And we pray if there's anyone who's watching,
  • 24:04 who's never done that,
  • 24:05 who's never received Jesus
  • 24:06 as their sin bearer, as their substitute,
  • 24:08 as the One who died in their place on the Cross,
  • 24:10 that they'll do that today.
