With Al Jazeera English (AJE) now broadcasting on a local station in New York City, a conservative media watchdog says those who distribute Islamic propaganda have won a victory — just in time for the tenth anniversary of 9/11.

Until now, the fledgling network had been in only three U.S. Markets: Washington, DC; Burlington, Vermont; and Toledo, Ohio. The New York Times reports that AJE recently secured a deal to sublet airtime from the owners of a New York channel as part of its campaign to gain widespread access to U.S. markets.

Matt Philbin, managing editor of the Media Research Center’s Culture and Media Institute, says Al Jazeera English is little better than an anti-Western propaganda outlet.

“It’s a big victory for Al Jazeera; it’s a big victory, I believe, for Islamic propaganda,” he suggests. “I don’t know that it’s the best thing for viewers in New York.”

Philbin explains that AJE has already demonstrated blatant pro-Islamic, anti-Jewish bias — like in March, when it failed to report the brutal murder of an Israeli family at the hands of a Palestinian terrorist.

“It only covered the response by the Israelis and sort of painted it as this bloodthirsty search for vengeance on the Israelis’ part,” he points out. “This is the network that threw a birthday party for a terrorist who had been convicted of killing a four-year-old girl and her father.”

However, Philbin does not foresee Al Jazeera English gaining much of a following in America.
