I hear you Dr. Magness, the Jesus tomb theory appears thin, but a few thoughts on your article.
a) Why did Joseph of Arimathea place Jesus in his tomb? The only logical explanation would be Jesus was of the family of Joseph of Arimathea. Which would mean that Jesus was not the son of a carpenter at all (but, rather, from a family of means).
b) Consider the possibility that Jesus was Hasmonean. Jerusalem is within Benjamite territory (the tribe of the Hasmoneans). Jesus wasn't born in Galille, he merely lived there as his family wished to escape the rule of Archelaus. Not a huge leap to say that Jesus was not of Galillean ancestry. Wouldn't it be strange for a king of the Jews to be of Galillean ancestry? Here is an argument for the proposition that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was a Hasmonean princess: http://www.jjraymond.com/religion/marymotherofjesus.html
